Previous research has found that some individuals give different answers when asked about their national, state and/or local party identifications. These response inconsistencies suggest that there is a level of government dimension to party identification. It is possible, however, that the consistency of individuals' responses to questions about their different party identifications is instead the product of measurement error. The validity of measures of mixed party identifications is investigated in this study. The results of the analysis support the conclusion that there is a level of government dimension to party identification.

The idea that the South is a conservative area is one of the fixtures on the American political landscape. Questions remain, however, whether the picture of the conservative South provides a complete depiction of mass politics in that region. Public opinion data are examined in this study to determine whether the South is actually a conservative area. The results of the analysis suggest that it is inaccurate to conclude unqualifiably that the South is a conservative region.

As recently reported in The chronicle of Higher Education (January 7, 1980), enrollment in colleges and universities is expected to decline about 4 percent during the 1980s. This decline in student enrollment, which may exceed 40 percent in some states, will be one of the major problems facing higher education during this decade.Currently the bulk of political science enrollment of most colleges and universities is in introductory courses. These courses are primarily composed of students majoring in other disciplines who are taking an introductory political science course (usually the introductory course in American Politics) to fulfill a degree requirement. Most of these "service" students take no additional political science courses. As a result, the "continuation scores" — the number of additional political science courses taken — of most introductory course students are very low.

After years of a virtual Democratic monopoly over its electoral politics, Alabama has become a politically competitive state. Reflecting this political transformation, the results of the 1991 and 2001 Grassroots Party Activists surveys show that Alabama's Democratic and Republican party activists are increasingly distinguishable in their social characteristics, ideological stands, and policy positions. Also accompanying the state's new political competitiveness has been the development of party organizations that are now roughly balanced in terms of their strength and capabilities.

Previous studies have found a race-of-interviewer effect on survey questions dealing with racial issues. This effect has been found in both personal interviews & on questionnaires filled out in the presence of an interviewer. Examined here is whether a race-of-interviewer effect is also present in telephone interviews.
