The article deals with the evaluation of the economic performance of domestic enterprises under foreign control, especially by subjects from Eastern European countries currently involved in the war conflict in Ukraine, through several key indicators monitored by Inward Foreign Affiliates Statistics (IFATS) and compiled by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO). The war conflict in Ukraine raises, among other, questions about the effects of sanctions against aggressor countries. IFATS could serve as one possible source for evaluation of their impact with new data coming in the future. In the article, selected data from the IFATS database will be compared for the economy as a whole and according to the specific prevailing economic activities as well. Although the contribution of enterprises controlled by subjects from both aggressor countries and Ukraine to the Czech economy is quite marginal, the latter ones are among the most represented in terms of their number that is still growing. However, their economic importance grows much slower.

The paper adds to the body of recent scholarly literature that emphasizes the role of domestic publics in public diplomacy – a field until recently examined with only minor attention to the domestic realm. It suggests conducting an analysis of the domestic dimension of public diplomacy on three levels: individual, organizational, and national. By doing so, we are able to understand in a complex manner the environment from which public diplomacy practice grows, and thus also its specific dynamics. Applying this model of analysis to the case of Israel, the paper describes major domestic factors shaping Israeli public diplomacy: the culture of individual engagement (individual level), the clash of organizational ethea of institutions responsible for public diplomacy (organizational level), and the intertwining of public diplomacy and nation-building (national level). The analysis also allows us to better grasp the dilemma faced by Israeli public diplomacy between efficiency and democratic character

Bringing together distinguished Polish scholars and researchers, the book Poland's Security: Contemporary Domestic and International Issues presents different aspects of security of present-day Poland. The volume's primary intent is to "emphasize the complex, multi-faceted, dynamic, and evolutionary nature of the subject, the multiplicity of problems in the area of security, and the diversity of its determinants". Attention is paid not only to the military (or "hard") security, but also to other sectors, such as economic, societal or energy security. A specific gap, which the editors set out to cover, is the scarcity of a practical application of theoretical considerations in the respective field.

The study deals with the political consequences of the suburbanization process in the four largest metropolitan areas in the Czech Republic after 1989. Aggregate socio-economic data on the level of municipalities are used first for the creation of a typology of suburban communes. Then the electoral turnout in suburban municipalities is studied in relation to their socio-economic, cultural and geographical features. Finally, the effects of suburban development on voting behavior are analyzed. The analyses show that not all features of the political behavior of the suburban population in the Czech Republic follow trends observable in the West, but most relations between socio-economic development and political behavior in suburbs are similar.

Acceptance sampling, one of the techniques used in quality control, is analysed in present paper. We shall study sampling inspection plans when the remainder of a rejected lot is inspected, i.e. rectifying plans. These plans were introduced by Dodge and Romig for inspection by attributes (each inspected item is classified as either good or defective). Analogous rectifying plans for inspection by variables with one specification limit for the quality characteristic were introduced by the author of this contribution. In present article we shall consider combined inspection (all items from the sample are inspected by variables, but remainder of a rejected lot is inspected only by attributes). We shall show that the combined inspection is the best in many situations. Using plans for combined inspection we can often achieve significant savings of the inspection cost under the same protection of producer and consumer.

This note reviews a direct least squares estimation of a state space model and highlights its advantages over the standard Kalman filter in some applications. Although there is a close relationship between these two concepts, dual understanding of the estimation problem seems to be little appreciated by the mainstream econometric literature as well as applied researchers. Due to computational and theoretical advancements, the least squares estimation of a state space model has become a viable alternative in many fields, showing great potential in solving otherwise difficult problems. This note gathers and discusses some possible applications to illustrate the point and contribute to their wider use in practice.

In this paper, the author aims to describe the dissemination of microdata from the population census by National Statistical Offices. This type of data is highly confidential, and approaches to protection vary across the world. National Statistical Offices mostly strive to publish their data as much as possible, but they are bounded by national and international laws to protect the personal data of respondents. The primary goal is mapping the differences between countries and their categorization. Different approaches to microdata availability are described, and various data access approaches are depicted. The information was obtained from publicly available documentation and a survey in which selected statistical offices were contacted. Discovered were that of the 223 countries (including dependent territories), 100 countries have made microdata available for the scientific community, with 30 countries also providing microdata access to the public. This paper presents a mapped overview and aggregated information on the publication of microdata of the population census from around the world.

Financial intermediation services indirectly measured, or simply FISIM, is an adjustment made in national accounts which constitutes significant element in output of the financial institutions. Therefore, the methodological aspects of this adjustment are still broadly discussed issue. In case of the Czech Republic, the institution responsible for the estimation is the Czech Statistical Office. The paper deeply analyses the approach of this institution and compare it with opinions of many authors. Based on this literature research, the aim of this paper is to propose improvements in the current estimation and find out other options how to estimate the most accurate value of FISIM.
