The thesis of the chapter is that young people's cultural production offers an understudied inroad to understanding the dilemmas facing modern youth. The thesis is verified through analysis based on a three-year media ethnography on 14-17-year old Danes' video making practices. Main findings document that cultural production is a particular means of political expression and not an alternative to political activism.

This final, editorial chapter draws together commonalities across the volume sections and chapters. Noting how experimental museology is set in motion as a way for museums to navigate contingencies brought about by often structural complexities and socio-cultural dilemmas around the world, this chapter highlights three implications that stand out as particularly pertinent when museums navigate these contingencies through holistic approaches. These implications are ethical implications when museum institutions explore new and dynamic forms of collaboration; implications with regard to diversity when museums design novel modes of communication; and democratic implications when museums engage with communities holding divergent affinities and values. This chapter discusses these implications and suggests principles and guidelines for successful change processes when museums enter uncharted territories of experimentation.

Museums today find themselves within a mediatised society, where everyday life is conducted in a data-full and technology-rich context. In fact, museums are themselves mediatised: they present a uniquely media-centred environment, in which communicative media is a constitutive property of their organisation and of the visitor experience. The Routledge Handbook of Museums, Media and Communication explores what it means to take mediated communication as a key concept for museum studies and as a sensitising lens for media-related museum practice on the ground. Including contributions from experts around the world, this original and innovative Handbook shares a nuanced and precise understanding of media, media concepts and media terminology, rehearsing new locations for writing on museum media and giving voice to new subject alignments. As a whole, the volume breaks new ground by reframing mediated museum communication as a resource for an inclusive understanding of current museum developments. The Routledge Handbook of Museums, Media and Communication will appeal to both students and scholars, as well as to practitioners involved in the visioning, design and delivery of mediated communication in the museum. It teaches us not just how to study museums, but how to go about being a museum in today's world.

This article discusses a preliminary exploration of how globalization becomes embedded into the lives of children and adolescents in three very different countries: Denmark, France and Israel. Analysis of qualitative data collected from the three countries as part of a major cross-cultural study suggests five interrelated practices of globalization: (1) the role of television as both a default medium and as a source of favourite contents; (2) the preferences for transnational fiction; (3) the media's catering to the utopias of a shared world; (4) the hybrid characters of children's cultures; and (5) intergenerational struggles related to globalization. The findings suggest that for children and adolescents globalization involves the linking of their own locales to the wider world while, at the same time, localization incorporates trends of globalization. The article points to two parallel processes: one of young childrens's adoption of a global perspective on social life, and the second of the hybrid coexistence of multi-cultures in their lives.

From a sociological point of view, this is a truly challenging time: a time of 'revelation' as well as possible 'revolution', capable of revealing many of the pathologies of our lifestyle. The Corona-virus crisis has exposed the way our society works in a sort of a global social experiment, which provides the opportunity to question many of the categories and paradigms of our disciplines, as well as our way of life. More profoundly, the virus has exposed the structural tensions at the basis of our social, economic, political life. Our duty as intellectuals, as teachers, and as academics is today to find a way to inhabit this tension in a more integral, inclusive, fair way rather than to dream to solve it by removing or suppressing one of the aspects at play. It is therefore necessary to explore the many possible ways to exit this situation, transforming this crisis into an opportunity for positive change. This polyphonic article, stemming from a moment of common discussion kept online, aims to be a contribution to this effort.
