In order to study the nutrition profile of industrial labourers and their families, a nutrition survey was conducted in Adamjee Jute Mills labour colony in Narayanganj during February 1982. The authors report on the findings of the study and compare them with the national findings in respect of nutrition. It is found that the vast majority of the children in the industrial area were malnourished by any nutritional status criteria. (DÜI-Sen)

Surveillance of nutritional status of population has become a subject of increasing concern in countries like Bangladesh where the great majority of population suffers from various degrees of malnutrition. Using wage, price and anthropometric data on weight and height, the nutrition situation of the country can be monitored. The authors outline an institutional framework for such activities.
