Presents an argument in favor of secession as a positve act that dismantles hegemonic domestic relations in favor of contractual, mutually beneficial foreign relations. The conventional wisdom is described as one in which political & economic centralization grew from the 15th century to the present in inherently progressive process. However, it is shown that levels of political liberalism crucially depended on economic & political competition, which is fast eroding in the era of global capitalist & regional integration. It is posited that the smaller the country, the more pressure is applied to allow more private property, lower taxes, & regulation because of state competition. Further, secession promotes monetary integration & economic integration & development. A world is imagined in which tens of thousands of distinct countries, & regions, & hundreds of thousands of free independent cities will result in increased economic opportunities, prosperity, & political liberty.
