Grasping the Nettle: If Diplomacy Fails in Iran

Should diplomacy fail to deal with the threat of a nuclear Iran, it argues that policymakers will have to choose between preventive war and deterrence. Each option is considered, and the author suggests that uncertainty about both Iran's programs and its potential actions could lead to a full-blown war. Ultimately, deterrence would be the preferable option as it would prevent the possibility of a war with Iran, and while saving American money and lives, it would also not fuel the support of mullahs in Iran.
