Since the publication of Sex Trafficking in 2007, Siddharth Kara has continued to travel across countries and continents, documenting the local factors and economic forces that support sexual slavery worldwide. His riveting encounters with victims and traffickers informed his screenplay for Trafficked (2016), now a major motion picture. The film features familiar figures from Sex Trafficking and the shocking conditions of their exploitation. It also includes cases Kara has uncovered since his book debuted. This new paperback edition of Sex Trafficking includes a preface by Kara in which he discusses his findings and updates the statistics relating to his business and economic analysis of contemporary slavery. After fifteen years, Kara has recorded nearly 900 cases of sex trafficking in forty-one countries and has helped advise on numerous legal, tactical, and policy efforts for abolishing modern-day slavery across the globe. Sex Trafficking continues to lead as a resource for those hoping to expose this hidden evil and eradicate its practice once and for all
Gender equality has become a central aspect of global governance and development in the 21st century. States increasingly promote women in government, ensure women s economic rights and protect women from violence, all in the name of creating a more gender equitable world. This is a historical, theoretical, and political overview of why the common, liberal-feminist-driven shortcut approach has not actually improved the status of women throughout the world and why a new approach taking social, racial, and political hierarchies into account alongside gender is sorely needed. This innovative book unites several streams of international relations and feminist theory in pursuit of a practical solution to global gender inequality. She gives an overview of what add-women policymaking looks like and has (or has not) accomplished, examining three key policy areas: . Women s representation- including policies and practices to include more women in all branches of government, such as legislative quotas, which in many countries have been established to ensure enough women are represented in legislative bodies;. The recognition of women s economic rights, like the right for a woman to own property and gainful employment. Combating violence against women, through domestic violence and rape laws, which remains a major problem throughout the world.

"One morning while reading Barron's magazine, Kara Newman took note of a casual bit of advice offered by famed commodities trader Jim Rogers. 'Buy breakfast, ' he told investors, referring to the value of rising pork belly and frozen orange juice futures. The statement inspired Newman to take a closer look at agricultural commodities, from the iconic pork belly to the more obscure peppercorn and nutmeg. The results, recorded in this fascinating history, show not only how contracts listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange can read like a menu but also how market behavior can dictate global economic and culinary practice"--Provided by publisher
