Die Studie zum Wahlverhalten untersucht die Determinanten der Parteibindung und ihre Stärke bzw. ihren Bedeutungsgehalt. Dabei wird insbesondere die Rolle persönlicher Ressourcen und Merkmale betrachtet: (1) Bildung, (2) vorgängige Involvierung in das politische Geschehen sowie (3) regelmäßige Wahrnehmung politischer Informationen in Presse und Fernsehen. Die Ausgangshypothese lautet demnach, dass bei hoher kognitiver Mobilisierung der Wahlberechtigten eine Abnahme der politischen Bindung und auch ein Bedeutungswandel zu einer weniger affektiv ausgerichteten Parteineigung erwogen werden kann. Der moderne Wähler ist somit politisch unabhängig oder bindet sich nur noch 'auf Widerruf' und ohne emotionale Vertiefung an eine politische Partei. Die Datengrundlage bildet eine Befragung im Rahmen der Bundestagswahl von 2002 zur Parteineigung. In das Thema einführend, wird zunächst das Phänomen der Parteibindung bzw. die Rolle kognitiver Mobilisierung anhand von empirischem Datenmaterial zu den Bundestagswahlen von 1961 bis 2002 beschrieben und die Gruppe der ungebundenen Wahlberechtigten ('die neuen Unabhängigen') vorgestellt. Die empirische Untersuchung gliedert sich in (1) die Operationalisierungen und die Verteilungen der Parteineigung, (2) die Determinanten der Parteineigung und ihrer Stärke, (3) die simultane Analyse der Bedeutungen einer Parteineigung sowie (4) die kumulativen Effekte kognitiver Mobilisierung. Die Befunde bestätigen die Ausgangshypothese keineswegs, ganz im Gegenteil weisen die Erkenntnisse fast durchweg darauf hin, dass es gerade die hoch mobilisierten Bürger sind, die sich nach wie vor an eine politische Partei gebunden sehen und die eine stark ausgeprägte und affektiv unterfütterte Bindung besitzen. Political Trust and Disenchantment with Politics contributes fresh empirical findings to research on the relationship between trust and participation. The results indicate that the citizens of European societies and beyond are far from an universal retreat from the political sphere

Despite the long-lasting interest in religious change, debates on the topic have been heated and are still far from being settled. In order to provide a reliable data source through which to study these dynamics, the CARPE project harmonizes well-known international surveys containing items concerning religiosity (the ESS, Eurobarometer, EVS, ISSP and WVS). This makes it possible to broaden the available observation window, both across countries and over time. Moreover, the opportunities this provides for comparing different survey programmes also enable researchers to analyse the consistency of the results, minimizing the impact of random fluctuations and providing useful information with respect to the degree of confidence which can be placed on the relevant estimates. The main focus of this cumulative approach is the variable regarding church attendance, which has been harmonized in various ways. All in all, the CARPE dataset contains figures of religious practice for 45 countries spanning the period of 1970-2016 and derived from 1665 national surveys. This results in a sample of approximately 1.8 million individual observations. The aim of this contribution is to present the dataset's composition, the harmonization procedure adopted, the strategy used to combine the single datasets and the reliability tests which have been performed. Finally, some possible applications of the CARPE dataset will be introduced.

Das International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) erhebt jährlich Umfragedaten zu sozialwissenschaftlich relevanten Themen. Der vorliegende ISSP Data Report - Religious Attitudes and Religious Change beruht auf ISSP-Daten, die zu drei verschiedenen Zeitpunkten innerhalb von 17 Jahren in bis zu 42 Mitgliedsländern zu Einstellungen gegenüber Kirche und Religion im weitesten Sinne gesammelt wurden. Jedes Kapitel wurde von unterschiedlichen Autoren der ISSP-Gemeinschaft geschrieben und beleuchtet mit Hilfe der ISSP-Daten spezielle Aspekte religiöser Einstellungen und religiösen Wandels im internationalen Vergleich. In der Gesamtschau ergeben sich sowohl Einblicke in das religiöse Leben verschiedener Länder, als auch insbesondere Erkenntnisse zu den Einflussfaktoren religiösen Wandels innerhalb von fast zwei Dekaden.

Das 'International Social Survey Programme' (ISSP) führt in internationaler Kooperation jährlich eine gemeinsame Umfrage zu allgemeinen gesellschaftlich relevanten Themen durch. Der vorliegende Arbeitsbericht ist ein Datenreport zu einem Thema, dem eine besondere gesellschaftliche Bedeutung zukommt: Einstellungen der Bürger zu Staat und Regierung. Mit Ausnahme eines Themas wurden die analysierten Fragekomplexe mindestens zweimal erhoben und dokumentieren somit den Wandel und die Trends in den jeweiligen Themengebieten. In den einzelnen Kapiteln werden Einstellungen zu Bürgerrechten und Staatsintervention, Staat und soziale Wohlfahrt, Einflussnahme des Staates auf die Wirtschaft, Prioritäten bei staatlichen Ausgaben und die Interaktion zwischen Steuererhebung und Einkommensverteilung analysiert. Weitere Themen sind die Einschätzung des individuellen politischen Einflusses und die Motivation zum politischen Engagement sowie das Thema Korruption. (ICI)

The annual survey of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) provides data on topics relevant to social science research. Chapters included in this volume 'Social Inequality in the Eyes of the Public - A Collection of Analyses Based on ISSP Data 1987-2009' examine social inequality from a citizens' perspective across countries, for periods encompassing up to 20 years and beyond. Contributions come from an international group of authors who have extensive knowledge of the ISSP database. The selected chapters offer a cross-national com-parative perspective on various issues related to inequality: social mobility; public perceptions of the mechanisms that generate social inequality; social constructs that indicate social inequality; and the effects of structural conditions (e.g., unemployment, income distribution) on attitudes connected with social inequality. In this book you will find critical input on questions related to the interplay between macro-structural conditions, citizens' perceptions and attitudes towards social inequality.

This document provides information on how to work with the data of the 'ONBound - Old and New Boundaries: National Identities and Religion' project. It outlines the project's starting point, the data harmonization procedures, the harmonization repository, the ONBound Harmonization Wizard, and most importantly, guides through the steps and procedures needed to compile a customized ONBound dataset. Chapter One of this user guide informs about citations for ONBound data and metadata. Chapter Two gives an overview of the available variables and the original datasets that were included. It also introduces our harmonization strategies. Chapter Three introduces the ONBound Harmonization Wizard. Finally, chapter four provides a step-by-step guide for the application of the ONBound harmonization routines.
