Tourism Governance and Natural Areas Protected: Analysis of the Tourist Polo Costa Das Dunas-RN, Brazil
In: Rosa dos Ventos: revista do Programa de Pós-Graduação Mestrado em Turismo, Universidade de Caxias do Sul, Band 13, Heft 1, S. 177-199
ISSN: 2178-9061
This study aims to analyze the perception of members of the Costa das Dunas Tourist Pole, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte [Brazil], regarding the potential effects of tourism in Protected Natural Áreas, especially in those that are in the process of being implemented. The state parks Mangues do Potengi, in Natal, and Jiqui, in Parnamirim, are studied. The research is exploratory, with a qualitative approach, using for data collection semi-structured interviews, followed by content analysis. It's noted that the economic aspects are highlighted in their possibility of generating employment and income for the communities. It is also noteworthy that despite tourism being seen as a significant contributor to improving the resident's quality of life, the involvement of these people in the planning and management of areas, as well as sensitizing visitors, is essential to mitigate undesirable impacts.

Magnesium in the water of Japanese quails kept under comfort zone and under thermal stress
In: Semina: revista cultural e científica da Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Ciências agrárias, Band 43, Heft 2, S. 599-610
ISSN: 1679-0359
The objective was to evaluate the increasing levels of magnesium in the water supplied to laying quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica), kept in climatic chambers under thermoneutral temperature and thermal stress, on their performance and morphometry of their organs. The birds were distributed in a completely randomized design, 2x4 factorial arrangement, 2 temperatures (24 and 32 ºC) and 4 levels of magnesium in the water (50, 150, 250 and 350 mg L-1), with six replicates and eight birds per experimental unit. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and the means compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability level. The magnesium levels in the water did not affect (P > 0.05) the production performance and morphometry of the organs, with less water consumption at the magnesium level of 150 mg L-1, and birds kept at 32 °C had a reduction in feed consumption and feed conversion, but without affecting organ morphometry. Japanese quails in the production phase can consume water with magnesium levels up to 350 mg L-1 without having their production performance and morphometry of organs affected and raised in an environment with temperatures of up to 32 °C.
Evaluation of antioxidants on oxidative stability and fatty acid profile of poultry offal oil used in the pet food industry
In: Semina: revista cultural e científica da Universidade Estadual de Londrina. Ciências agrárias, Band 42, Heft 3Supl1, S. 1813-1824
ISSN: 1679-0359
The aim of this study was to examine the use of antioxidants on the oxidative stability of poultry offal oil used in the pet food industry. Five commercial synthetic and two natural antioxidants were used in the following treatments: Control (CON); CON + (BHT + BHA + ETH95); CON + (BHT + BHA); CON + (BHA + PG + CA); CON + (BHT + BHA + ETH70); CON + BHA; CON + (ASC + rosemary); and CON + (ASC + tocopherols). Inclusion levels were 0.5% for the synthetic and 0.625% for the natural antioxidants. Oxidative stability was determined at three temperatures (90, 110 and 130 ºC). To determine the fatty acid profile, the original sample of the offal oil was considered a negative control. The fatty acids were determined based on the preparation of methyl esters by a transesterification reaction with methanol in alkaline medium, followed by gas chromatography analysis. The different fatty acid types were identified by comparing the retention times of the fatty acid methyl ester standards with the retention times of the observed peaks. Compositional data analysis was carried out. Without the use of antioxidant, induction time is shorter, resulting in lower oxidative stability of the offal oil and consequent loss of its quality due to less time taken to oxidize. The antioxidants used in CON + (BHT + BHA + ETH95), CON + (BHA + PG + CA) and CON + BHA better preserved the essential fatty acids (linolenic and linoleic). Natural antioxidants exhibited higher oxidation, with higher proportions of saturated fatty acids and the worst ω6:ω3 ratios. In conclusion, the synthetic antioxidants used in CON + (BHT + BHA + ETH95), CON + (BHA + PG + CA) and CON + BHA provided greater protection against oxidation and better preserved the essential fatty acids. The natural antioxidants tested in the present study did not provide satisfactory protection.
