Does private tutoring improve students' National College Entrance Exam performance?—A case study from Jinan, China

Barely six months before the September 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States, a major incident threatened to bring the volatile relationship between China and the United States to crisis point. An American military plane along with its crew was seized by China for violating its air space and spying. Despite dignified denouement through diplomatic channels, the manner in which China viewed and handled issues thrown up by the incident has been attributed widely and mistakenly to China's political leadership without factoring the growth of Chinese nationalism as a determinant of China's US policy. However, the incident would have been handled more meaningfully if the two countries had communicated better with each other.

In this article, we intend to develop the complexity of 'being a Chinese woman' in the Spanish State through our experiences. Specifically, we embrace autoethnography as a methodological tool for analysis due to its potential as a generator of knowledge located in our racialized corporeality. From this place and under this narrative, we analyse our experiences with forum theater as an artistic-political expression of resistance and counter-narrative, arguing its importance and relevance for a politicized existence of its own, both for and within the community. With this contribution, we hope that the collective path towards sustainability and the reconceptualization of our own history are key to revitalizing the practices and knowledge of the Chinese and Asian diasporas in our context. ResumenEn el presente texto pretendemos desarrollar la complejidad de 'ser una mujer china' en el Estado español a través de nuestra experiencia. Concretamente, nos acogemos a la autoetnografía como herramienta metodológica de análisis por supotencial como generador de conocimiento, un conocimiento situado desde nuestra corporalidad racializada. Desde este lugar y bajo esta forma narrativa, analizamos nuestra experiencia con el teatro foro como expresión artístico-política de resistencia y contranarrativa, argumentando su importancia y relevancia para una existencia politizada propia para y con la comunidad. Con esta contribución, confiamos que el camino colectivo hacia la sostenibilidad y la reconceptualización de nuestra propia historia es clave para revitalizar las prácticas y saberes de la diáspora china y de las diásporas asiáticas en nuestro contexto.
