Although it may appear unchanging, in fact, every coronation ceremony is a fresh service, which is a product of its time. It is likely, for instance, that at any future coronation, TV will be a major new factor compared with 1953. But political & social changes -- eg, reform of the House of Lords & the increasing religious & social complexity of modern British society -- will also have an impact. This article introduces the coronation ritual, in particular describing the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen. The religious legitimacy of the monarch remains important.
