Since antiretroviral treatment was first made available in the public health care sector in 2004, there has been an urgent need to train people working in the field and increase biomedical knowledge about HIV/AIDS within the South African population.? This paper aims to assess the potential of further developing the technique of body mapping as an HIV/AIDS educational tool for adults in HIV-positive support groups. It will involve an evaluation of the Longlife Project, the body mapping workshop process and individual body maps.? While the over-arching intention of the Longlife Project was advocacy in the face of government resistance to providing antiretroviral treatment at the time, its proposed advocacy could not take place without education.? Building on this premise, together with an analysis of the body maps and interview transcripts found in the book Longlife: Positive HIV Stories it is suggested the creation of body maps increased biomedical understanding of HIV/AIDS and to some extent heath-enhancing behaviour.? Apart from gaining factual knowledge about their health, the women involved in the project also engaged in conversation that provided a rich opportunity for discussing the personal, emotional, cultural and socio-economic challenges of being HIV-positive in South Africa.? Both the body mapping and conversation processes will be situated within adult education theory and discussed in relation to 'transformational learning', 'critical consciousness', community art-based learning, peer education and Participatory Research practice.? By assessing the strengths and failures of these concepts within an African context the potential for body mapping to be employed as an HIV/AIDS education tool will be further developed.

The use of microcomputers in education has provided us with a unique tool which, when used properly, will enhance student learning, awareness, and employability. The microcomputer may also assist the school administration operate the school plant with increased effectiveness in the days of reduced funding. "Micros" are able to perform many tasks in a matter of minutes that once required hours of an individual's time. This paper will demonstrate three ways in which Apple computers are used in a day school program for the hearing impaired. Topics discussed will include a student history file used to generate information regarding the student population, a method for storing and retrieving student scores on the Stanford Achievement Test, and an example of how spelling vocabulary may be reinforced by using a microcomputer in the classroom.

In addition to documentary theater, performances that reenact historical events with amateur actors prove to be a form of historical theater that keeps memories alive. Looking at the historical re-enactments at the Offenburger Freedom Festival in Germany or Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, the author draws attention to the entangled German-American history of the Civil War and discusses the limits and possibilities offered by historical reenactments for history and civic education. He argues that besides the accepted forms of experimental archeology and living history programs in openair museums, historical theater – with students both as actors and audiences in live-action roleplay – can create positive effects for school curriculum-based learning processes. The research project lures attention to historical cartography as the fundamental material that needs to be collected, analysed, understood and used in the preservation management projects for enhancing widespread heritage. In a search for a methodological approach to understanding historical cartography, the study will begin with a map collection of various scales, periods and themes, to be analysed and compared inside the same coordinate system. Researchers are interested in developing an exact methodology for understanding and usability of historical cartography is raising. Nonetheless, there is a gap in connecting the analysis of historical maps with their use in preservation projects. The imposed question "what is a map?" is very complex and depends on many factors. Since the maps are present in various spheres of studies, to get the right image of what a map can represent and closely defining what a map is, one should examine different stands. Collecting and understanding the historical cartography with the developed methodology will lead to the part of digital humanities that concern managing metadata of historical document, georeferencing and digitalizing maps in the geographic information systems (GIS) respecting the standards of European Union (Europeana 2018). This project presents ways in which digitalization and systematization of these maps can foster public and professional engagement with heritage (Garcıa-Esparza et al., 2020), contributing to the UNESCO/UBC Vancouver declaration (2012) that points out the importance of digitalization of historical documents along with intangible qualities of urban spaces.

Meal replacements: an educational tool for weight reduction in patients with diabetes in rural areas
Richard J Santen, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia, discusses how meal replacements can aid successful weight loss for individuals with diabetes living in rural, underserved communities. The incidence and prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is increasing worldwide in parallel with that of obesity. Poorly controlled patients with diabetes mellitus can benefit from a consultation with an endocrinologist. However, patients living in rural, financially challenged, underserved areas in the US do not have access to endocrinologists to help manage their diabetes. This lack of specialists has resulted primarily from a marked workforce gap, particularly in underserved rural areas. A program developed by the author of this manuscript utilized telemedicine to evaluate and manage patients with diabetes attending rural, Federally Qualified Community Health Centers in the US. The rationale was to teach patients about diet, exercise, and medication management. The program has been successful in that hemoglobin A1c levels decreased from 10.3±1.94% to 7.78±1.5% in 139 patients completing the program. As evidence of the success of the self-management component, when patients were discharged from the program but followed for the next six to 18 months, the average hemoglobin A1c remained stable. However, the major failure of the study was that body weight did not change significantly. Recent guidelines strongly suggest that control of patients with type 2 diabetes requires a reduction in body weight and consider this equally important as glucose control.

This paper examines the potential of digital learning environments in preparing future entrepreneurs through higher education. Despite historic doubts regarding the systematic teaching of entrepreneurial skills, in recent decades entrepreneurship education has distinctly evolved. Unlike conventional professions, entrepreneurship encompasses a diverse array of specific challenges in business creation and management. This makes it challenging to adopt a uniform educational approach. Hence, a blend of appropriate educational methods is essential. These range from inspiring learners through entrepreneurial narratives to fostering conceptual and practical skills for recognizing opportunities, validating business ideas, gaining knowledge and skills for managing processes and resources, and cultivating personal attributes crucial for entrepreneurial success. The paper critically evaluates the potential of digital learning environments in nurturing entrepreneurial competencies. This is achieved by juxtaposing the outcomes of existing theoretical and empirical studies on the utilization of digital tools in entrepreneurship education. The research aims to address crucial questions: what, how, and by whom should entrepreneurship be taught; the distinct advantages and limitations of various digital tools in fostering specific entrepreneurial competencies; and to what extent digital learning environments can enhance the overall effectiveness of entrepreneurship education, considering the extent of resources committed. The array of digital tools encompasses virtual learning environments, interactive communication channels, multimedia products, engaging learning content, and specialized software for practical activities. The research adopts an exploratory methodology, applying qualitative methods. An online questionnaire was conducted to explore the perspectives of current entrepreneurship students in two Bulgarian universities. The paper concludes that digital learning environments indeed have the potential to significantly enhance the overall effectiveness of entrepreneurship education. However, a discerning approach is essential when selecting the appropriate digital tools tailored to foster distinct entrepreneurial competencies, considering the specific stage of the entrepreneurial learning process. Different digital facilitators demonstrate varying degrees of efficacy in shaping the mindset and competencies of future entrepreneurs in determining entrepreneurial opportunities, cultivating relationships, conceptualizing, organizing, strategizing, and displaying commitment.

Il est ainsi intéressant de se focaliser sur les jeux afin de proposer un nouvel éclairage sur les dynamiques qui ont mis en contact le monde romain avec les divers groupes ethniques progressivement absorbés dans l'orbite de Rome à la suite de son expansion politique et militaire. Le but de cet article est de comprendre si le jeu peut offrir de nouvelles pistes interprétatives afin de mieux saisir le processus de cooptation culturelle.Dans plusieurs sites britanniques, occupés par les auxilia, la présence d'objets ludiques typiquement romains contribue à la compréhension de certains aspects du processus de romanisation. Ces témoignages amènent un nouveau regard sur la manière par laquelle ces soldats non-romains ont eu la possibilité, pendant leur service militaire, d'entrer en contact avec les usages et les coutumes du romano more vivere. Educational games (aka serious games, SG) are powerful educational contents. However, they are costly to develop, and once developed, SGs become dependent on software and hardware combinations that may become obsolete, such as Adobe Flash or Java Applets. Addressing these problems would allow a much greater use of SGs in education. The eAdventure authoring tool, developed by the e-UCM research group, addressed high development costs, and resulted in the creation of multiple SGs in collaboration with different institutions. However, eAdventure's Java Applets have become increasingly difficult to run due to platform obsolescence. To maintain the benefits of the eAdventure platform and user base, we have created new platform called uAdventure: an SG editor built on top of the game engine Unity that allows for the creation of educational adventure games without requiring programming. Since Unity is supported on a majority of platforms (including mobile). By developing SGs with uAdventure, the games become future-proof, as they can be updated and retargeted for new platforms as required. In this sense, uAdventure improves the lifecycle of SGs by reducing both authoring and maintenance costs. ; This study is part of the RAGE project.
