Identities in the urban world are mental constructs of varying degrees of complexity that are built on the structure of the social groups to which they refer. But urban identity was a complex system also constructed based upon responsibilities and efforts, which served to cultivate common work. In Castile the towns and cities had a high capacity for management and organisation from their creation. The common identity was represented by the oligarchic government and the cities only brought before the king rivalries among themselves. This lack of sovereign urban identity leads to the supposition that the ambitions were absorbed in the feelings of identity with the community of the kingdom and monarchy would reserve an unquestionable leading role for the cities.

The articles deals with the medieval sources on the history of the Karaites who appeared in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the reign of duke Vitold (Vytautas). Many of them were already analyzed by researchers, whoever some questions still remained unanswered or presented not always in fully critical way. The research questions deal with the original privilege issued by Lithuanian monarchs to the Karaites, allegedly participation of the Karaites at the battle of Tannenberg or travel description left by Burgundian knight Gilbert de Lannoy. It seems that the first written document, shaping he legal position of the Karaites in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was issued by duke Casimir Jagellonides in 1441. The charter of grand duke Vitold, drawn in 1388, was certainly forged sometime in the 15th century. The Bavarian Latin chronicle informing that a Jewish (in fact, Karaite?) military unit supported Polish-Lithuanian army at the battle of Tannenberg in 1410, transmitted only political propaganda, and did not reflect a real fact. Famous Burgundian traveler, who visited Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the beginning of the15th century, met Karaites in Troki.

Increasing religious intolerance in Castile resulted in the expulsion of Muslims in 1502. However, just 50 years earlier Castile was known as one of the most religiously tolerant Christian kingdoms of Europe. Scholars have debated the reasons for the rapid shift in royal religious policy. But rather than asking why, here it is questioned how Castilian royalty used this Anti-Muslim shift to consolidate their power. This study focuses on primary source documents such as the "Capitulations of Granada" to answer this question. Created in December 1491, the Capitulations were a collection of decrees that guaranteed the protection of Muslims and their traditions following the surrender of the Muslim kingdom of Granada to the Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon. Detailed analysis of this document illustrates that a sudden negative shift towards Muslims did occur but asserts that this shift was deliberately shaped by the Castilian monarchy for political gain.

The Antwerp case demonstrates that rules of commercial law were crafted in response to diverse and connected phenomena. Lawmakers took into account the needs and demands of merchants, but also strife among groups of professionals and city leaders was responsible for legal change. The legal regime concerning collateral rights proved a challenge for the Antwerp administrators. Le Marchand was right in saying that in Antwerp the dowry was at one point considered a superpriority, but this was only during the period 1523-1530. Yet, in spite of this, Le Marchand's analysis as pointing to collateral rights as crucial features of municipal legal constellations can be taken on as an invitation to analyse collateral rights and priority of debts as a fundamental part of the political economy of late-medieval and early modern cities of trade. For that purpose, the perspective must be broad, with an eye on the interactions between di"erent arrangements and proceedings.

AbstractArmenian sources from the 15th century provide distinctive viewpoints on the history of the Safaviyyih Sufi order before the foundation of the Safavid Empire. The history of T'ovma of Metsop' suggests an earlier intermediate step in the militarization of the order, which scholars have typically viewed as an unprecedented development beginning after 1447, and ascribes to the Safavi shaykh the idea of taxing non-Muslims to encourage conversion to Islam. A second Armenian text, a previously unknown colophon, describes Haydar's attack on Shirvan in 1488 and the suffering of the Muslim and Christian sedentary population, as well as an episode of interreligious mockery. It is probably the earliest extant source to identify the Qizilbash by their distinctive red hats. Together, these sources suggest ways in which the Safaviyyih order's development was conditioned by the multireligious environment. They are examples of the value of non-Muslim sources even for late medieval Islamic history.

Abstract
Through a comparative reading of three novels of the late nineteenth century, namely Le Disciple, A rebours and Un homme libre, the monastic hermitage has emerged as a common place in which the protagonists of the novels, in search for a spiritual space, let themselves be shaped and transformed by the materiality of places. Through the consideration of the specific features of these closed and sacred sanctuaries, as well as the identity and the dream of the end of the 19th century man, a new literature searching for an ideal will appear openly.

Diese Studie untersucht drei Dimensionen der Lohnungleichheit in Deutschland in vier Jahrhunderten (1485 - 1889), nämlich die sektoralen Lohnvariationen, die Fähigkeitsprämie (skill premium) als Indikator für den Einfluss des Humankapitals auf das Lohneinkommen, und die Geschlechterdifferenz.
Sie beginnt mit einem Überblick der nominalen und realen Löhne der Arbeiter in den Städten vom 16. bis zum 19. Jahrhundert. Dabei werden die Löhne folgender Gruppen untersucht: (1) für das städtische Baugewerbe werden die Löhne von gelernten Handwerkern den Löhnen von ungelernten Arbeitern gegenübergestellt (skill premium); (2) werden die Löhne in der Landwirtschaft mit den Löhnen im industriellen Sektor verglichen; (3) wird die Lohnentwicklung der weiblichen Arbeitskräfte in der Landwirtschaft in Bezug zu den Löhnen männlicher Landarbeiter analysiert.
Hierfür wird auf zwei kürzlich vom Autor zusammengestellten Datensätze zu Löhnen zurückgegriffen, die ergänzt werden mit zusätzlichen Informationen, insbesondere über die Löhne in der Landwirtschaft (siehe hierzu Pfister 2019, 217-222).
Der hier bereit gestellte Datensatz umfasst eine Reihe zur Fähigkeitsprämie (skill premium) im städtischen Baugewerbe, eine Reihe zum Tagelohn männlicher Landarbeiter auf dem Gut Nordkirchen bzw. Westfalen, sowie synthetische Reihen zum Nominallohn im städtischen Bauhandwerk und zum Konsumgüterpreisindex über den langen Zeitraum 1500–1913.

1. Die Fähigkeitsprämie (skill premium; Tabelle A-01)
Die Fähigkeitsprämie (skill premium) wird hier gemessen als das Lohndifferenzial, um welches der Tagelohn gelernter Bauhandwerker denjenigen ungelernter Arbeiter übertrifft (z. B. 0,51 meint, dass der Tagelohn gelernter Handwerker 51% über demjenigen von ungelernten Arbeitern liegt). Für ihre Bestimmung stehen Angaben aus 18 Städten zur Verfügung. Die von Pfister (2017; GESIS ZA8636) erstellte Datenbasis von Preisen und Löhnen bis 1850 stellt die Hauptquelle für die Tagelöhne sowohl der gelernten Bauhandwerker als auch der ungelernten Arbeiter dar. Für die Zeit von 1840 bis 1880 wird ergänzend auf die in Pfister (2018; GESIS ZA8710) zusammengestellten Lohndaten zum städtischen Bauhandwerk zurückgegriffen. Anhang 1 dokumentiert auf der Ebene einzelner Städte die Quellen und die Jahre, für die Lohnangaben verfügbar sind. Es ist zu betonen, dass der Datensatz von einer hohen Heterogenität hinsichtlich der erfassten Handwerksberufe, der Länge der Datenreihen und der Datendichte gekennzeichnet ist.
Für die Konstruktion einer Zeitreihe der Fähigkeitsprämie auf der Ebene von Gesamtdeutschland werden aufgrund der geringen Datendichte – es gibt im Durchschnitt nur etwa drei Beobachtungen pro Jahr – die Daten über zentrierte Fünfjahreszeiträume (1483-1487, 1488-1482, .... 1883-1887) gemittelt. Die Qualifikations- oder Fähigkeitsprämie (skill premium) wird dann zunächst individuell für jede Stadt und jeden Fünfjahreszeitraum berechnet, für den Daten sowohl für gelernte als auch ungelernte Bauarbeiter vorliegen; insgesamt kommen so 393 Datenpunkte zustande. In einem zweiten Schritt wird mittels feasible GLS eine unbalancierte Panelregression mit fixed effects für die Städte und die Fünfjahresperioden geschätzt, wobei die Fehlervarianzen nach den Zeitperioden partitioniert werden (für Details s. Pfister 2019, 218). Auf der Basis der Regressionskoeffizienten für die Fünfjahresperioden lässt sich eine Zeitreihe berechnen; sie wurde mit der mittleren Fähigkeitsprämie in der Periode 1773-1778 skaliert. Dies erfolgte deshalb, weil in dieser Periode die Datendichte am höchsten ist, denn es liegen Angaben für zehn Städte vor. Das Ergebnis wird in Pfister (2019, 228, Abbildung 4) gezeigt und hier in Tabelle A-01 zugänglich gemacht.

2. Löhne von Landarbeitern (Tabelle A-02)
Lohnangaben in der Landwirtschaft sind üblicherweise als Tagelöhne notiert. Sie unterscheiden sich nach Art der Tätigkeit und danach, ob der Landarbeiter Kost und Unterkunft erhält oder nicht. In der Studie werden nur solche Löhne ohne Bereitstellung von Kost und Unterkunft berücksichtigt. Die Geldbeträge sind auf Mark pro Tag vereinheitlicht.

Die Studie nutzt die Rechnungsbücher eines großen Adelsbesitzes, die Ergebnisse von Erhebungen, die im Zusammenhang mit der Landreform und der Erstellung von Grundsteuerkatastern erfolgten, sozialstatistische Erhebungen sowie eine Reanalyse der Datenbasis von Neumann (1911) um für Westfalen eine Reihe von Landarbeiterlöhnen für den Zeitraum ca. 1730-1892 zu konstruieren. Die einzelnen Datenpunkte sind wie folgt definiert:
1730-1810: Mittlerer Tagelohn auf dem Adelsgut Nordkirchen, zentrierte Zehnjahresperioden. Quelle: ursprüngliche Quelle sind die Rechnungsbücher; Erfassung von Lohndaten und Konstruktion eines Lohnindexes in Bracht / Pfister (2019, Anhang A3).
1818: Tagelohn von Männern in Westfalen; Mittelwert für die drei Regierungsbezirke für sogenannte häusliche Arbeit. Die Werte für die Regierungsbezirke sind Mittelwerte von Angaben auf Kreisebene. ABSTRACTThis paper investigates impairment and depreciation accounting in the 13th to 15th century. It finds that the first known instance of impairment accounting was in 1321, while for depreciation, it was 1399 not, as has previously been claimed, 1299. The study demonstrates the difference in approach at that time between the two forms of adjustment and shows that impairment was the original form of adjustment for reduction in asset values, a form that was applied in situations where physical assets had been lost, or deteriorated, or devalued over the reporting period. In contrast, depreciation was algorithmic, linked to a time-based straight-line depreciation charge equivalent to 10 percent per annum. These findings not only relocate recognition of the emergence of depreciation provisions to the end of the 14th century but, also, from France to Spain. However, in both cases, in Italian firms with Italian accountants.

Arrival of the Ottomans to the Balkans has witnessed major changes in the development of cities in the area. They have played particularly important role in the construction of new as well as in the changes of existing late antique and medieval towns and their adaptation to Islamic civilization which they brought. The uniqueness of these cities is that they were denselypopulated with predominantly Muslim population; they had monumental Islamic buildings and a large bazaar where a variety of crafts were developed. Ottoman cadastral records (defteri) show that over 200 cities were in the Balkans in the second halfof the fifteenth and sixteenth century. Example of Sarajevo reveals a concept planned established city – residence, which Gazi Isa Bey started to build on the shores of Miljacka by his endowments and numerous other officials, wealthy merchants, artisans and other citizens of Sarajevo continued, including the particularly important role of Gazi Husrev Bey. His complexof buildings still witnesses the planned construction, which was aimed to transform this city not only to administrative but also economic, educational and cultural centre of Bosnia. When we talk about cities in the Balkans in the Ottoman period, it is necessary to speak about the role of waqfin the creation and development of urban settlements. Raising the waqf facilities for various purposes, began with the urban formation of the citysettlements, and further development of waqf buildingsserved as the basis of that development. Waqf were established by province governors, military commanders and other officials of the Ottoman Empire, as well as wealthy merchants and artisans. Balkan cities population was in the rise in the fifteenthcentury, and during the sixteenth century it was doubled. Most of the city's population were Muslims. They were not, as is often thought, mostly officers and soldiers of the Ottoman Empire or foreigners, but the majority of the urban population were localpeople, artisans and merchants, and various officers. Sarajevo has been developed within one civilization, along with other cities in the Balkans. The most intensive development of Sarajevo during the Ottoman period was in the sixteenth century, so it became the largest and most important city in Bosnia and one of the major cities in the Balkans. All characteristicsof an Islamic Ottoman town, both in urban development, division into two zones of housing and economic (mahala – bazaar), as well as the development of trade and their guilds and development of trade, were expressed. It was the administrative, economic, cultural and educational center of the Bosnian Sanjak, later eyalet.
