Die Gender Studies haben sich in den letzten Jahren zu einer der zentralen Forschungsperspektiven entwickelt. Dieser Band bietet eine systematische Einführung in die wichtigsten Theorien und Ansätze. Anhand von ausgewählten Originaltexten werden die Anfänge der Frauenforschung, aktuelle Fragestellungen der Queer Theory und Verknüpfungen mit anderen Fachrichtungen vorgestellt
In recent decades, gender perspectives on the history, theory and practice of translation have given rise to varied and fruitful international research. Although the dyad woman and translation existed for centuries in world literature, it was in the eighties, in Quebec, that it began to take hold as a demand, together with debates over the construct of gender. Various social, political and identity coordinates converged (second-wave Anglo-Saxon and French feminism, the "cultural turn" in translation studies, post-structuralism, deconstructionism, etc.) and inspired some feminist writers and translators to subvert and manipulate the dominant androcentric discourse in their writings or (re)writings. In the late 1990s, new initiatives sprung up outside North America. With Italy, Spain was one of the first countries where many researchers focused on gender and translation. With the incoming millennium, gender studies expanded to other European territories and gained currency on other continents, while in Spain conferences, publications and theses proliferated. In sum, in the last twenty-five years the study of the intersection of "women, gender and literary translation" has achieved several milestones in universities all around the world, including: (a) the recovery of translators, texts and paratexts otherwise rendered invisible by the dominant discourses; (b) the interrogation, criticism and self-criticism of feminist theories and translation practices here and abroad; (c) reflection on the ethics and responsibility of feminist translators and publishers who publish their texts; (d) the study of the linguistic representation of gender in translation; (e) the promotion of metaphors and myths in the feminine to replace the androcentrist patriarchal translational discourse for so many years in force in translation theories. In this article we will present the current state of the art of the two most fruitful lines of research in recent years: on the one hand, the feminine and feminist historiography of translation; ...
Do gender quota laws - policies that mandate women's inclusion on parties' candidate slates - affect policy outcomes? Making Gender Salient tackles this crucial question by offering a new theory to understand when and how gender quota laws impact policy. Drawing on cross-national data from high-income democracies and a mixed-methods research design, the book argues that quotas lead to policy change for issues characterized by a gender gap in preferences, especially if these issues deviate from the usual left/right party policy divide. The book focuses on one such issue, work-family policies, and finds that quotas shift work-family policies in the direction of gender equality. Substantive chapters show that quotas make gender more salient by giving women louder voices within parties, providing access to powerful ministerial roles, and encouraging male party leaders to compete on previously marginalized issues. The book concludes that quotas are one important way of facilitating congruence between women's policy preferences and actual policy outcomes.

For more than a decade, the evolution of the word "gender" and its accompanying discourse have become increasingly important to intellectual debates and practice. the term was initially used in a grammatical arena to identify masculine, feminine and neutral words. however, the term has changed since the second half of the XX Century given the increasing use in other fields, often replacing the word sex, traditionally used to distinguish the human male-female duality. this fact is evident in contemporary anthropological, social, political and legal discourse. and although the word "gender" does not have a positive or negative meaning per se, its many interpretations are fairly problematic. two interpretations stand out today: "gender perspective" and "gender ideology." ; For more than a decade, the evolution of the word "gender" and its accompanying discourse have become increasingly important to intellectual debates and practice. the term was initially used in a grammatical arena to identify masculine, feminine and neutral words. however, the term has changed since the second half of the XX Century given the increasing use in other fields, often replacing the word sex, traditionally used to distinguish the human male-female duality. this fact is evident in contemporary anthropological, social, political and legal discourse. and although the word "gender" does not have a positive or negative meaning per se, its many interpretations are fairly problematic. two interpretations stand out today: "gender perspective" and "gender ideology."

" The Macmillan Interdisciplinary Handbooks: Gender series serves undergraduate college students who have had little or no exposure to Gender Studies, as well as the curious lay reader. Following the Primer, which introduces the field of study, as well as the topics of the remaining 9 volumes plus a selection of subjects that will not receive full volume treatment (e.g., new media, music, disability), each handbook ushers the reader into a subfield of Gender Studies (see the list of titles, below) and explores twenty to thirty topics in that subfield. Every chapter in each volume, all newly commissioned studies prepared by academic experts, offers an annotated bibliography/research guide to encourage students to explore the topics further, using vehicles such as film or the arts to facilitate understanding of issues at the heart of the discipline, for example, fashion, health, masculinities. Each chapter ends with a summary of the concepts discussed. Each volume is edited by an academic subject specialist. "--
