The human rights movement is an older and stronger global movement than the social movement for restorative justice, and so are the peace movement, the women's movement, indigenous rights movements, the children's rights movement, the animal rights movement, and the environmental movement. Creatively conceived, these are all related social movements against domination and arbitrary power, and advocates of humbling power. The arbitrary powers that must be humbled include overreaching state power, corporate power, institutions that are hegemonically male, prisons, and militaries. These diverse movements differentially focus on these sources of power.

The Almoravids (al-Murābiṭūn 434-530/1042-1147) were a Saharan Berber tribal federation who conquered the western Maghrib and most of al-Andalus in the second half of the fifth/eleventh century. They were the first indigenous group to unify this part of the Maghrib and the first Maghrib-based empire to conquer al-Andalus. They revolutionized the political structures of both regions through a novel combination of local elements with others adopted from the broader Islamic world. Their strategies for political legitimation, which included the concept of ʿAbbāsid investitutre, illustrate this novel combination.

This article posits that the search for extraterrestrial intelligent life (SETI) remains grounded in a hierarchical and progressivist worldview that has fueled colonialism throughout history. Building upon the work of Enrique Dussel and Arthur Lovejoy in particular, the author demonstrates how previous earthly explorations produced a covering over of others, rather than a "discovery." Those working in SETI fields must consider these histories. This article advocates for more engagement with Indigenous studies scholarship to reach a genuine frontier—a metaparadigm shift beyond object-oriented scientific methods, which are a key component of what the author calls "settler science."

In the 1970s a string of cattle mutilations grabbed national attention. Thousands of cows in twenty-one states were turning up dead under suspicious circumstances. The culprits left no tire tracks or footprints, only exsanguinated cows missing trademark body parts. Many members of the public suspected (and still suspect) aliens were responsible. This article analyzes FBI files on the mutilations and reveals the central role Indian land played in the FBI's search for the cow killers. It then wields Indian land to launch an Indigenous critique of settler speculations about the alien.

The Jesuit province of Paraquaria included missions established within both sedentary and non-sedentary indigenous groups. This study examines the Guenoa Minuanos and their interactions with the Jesuit mission San Francisco de Borja. The Guenoa Minuanos were a non-sedentary group that lived in the Banda Oriental, or what is today Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul. Some bands chose to settle on the missions and particularly San Francisco de Borja, while other bands allied with the Portuguese. This study focuses on the bands that settled on the San Francisco de Borja mission.

Abstract
Canadian capitalism has entered a period of intensified volatility. Rooted in persistent profitability problems, it is facing several challenges, including economic stagnation, a household-debt driven real-estate and construction boom, and an increasingly fragile financial system. Drawing on a classical Marxist framework of capitalist crisis, this article explores the dynamics of instability in Canada and the response of the capitalist state, which centres on increased efforts to export oil and gas to China, thereby deepening conflict with Indigenous land defenders, and a redoubling of the assault on workers to increase the rate of exploitation.

This article proposes a new mode of understanding the entanglement of ecological and postcolonial questions in contemporary Chilean filmmaking, through the lens of directorial subjectivity. BothTierra sola(Solitary Land, Tiziana Panizza, 2017), andEl botón de nácar(The Pearl Button, Patricio Guzmán, 2015) contest hegemonic structures of belonging by constructing an alternative 'oceanic archive'. Yet where Guzmán's metaphorical meditations on indigenous connections to the ocean risk collapsing into romanticism and replicating colonial visuality, Panizza's reflexive conception of filmmaking as a situated and embodied practice facilitates a subtler understanding of cinema's political engagement in this sphere.

The Third International and Interdisciplinary Conference about the Tungus "Social Interactions, Languages, Landscapes in Siberia and China (Evenki, Evens, Orochons and Other Groups)" was organized by the Amur Region State University (Blagoveshchensk, Russia) and other coorganizers on June 14–16, 2019. The conference was devoted to the study of Tungus peoples from different standpoints and scientific/theoretical approaches. It demonstrated the vivid interest of researchers from many countries all over the world to the discussed topics. One of the main distinctions of this particular event was the resourceful and multifaceted intercommunication between scholars, indigenous people, and local authorities.

This paper investigates the similarities between the British experiences with settlers in other instances of colonisation, and mandatory Palestine. It addresses the extent to which British officials were aware of, and understood the aims, intentions, and methods of the Zionist movement, as well as the consequences for the indigenous population. Utilising primarily British documents from the mandatory period, and the literature on settler-colonialism, this paper will address a gap in research on the imperial responsibility, and role in, the mandate's development. This examines the knowledge and intent of the British in the settler-colonial context, and British imperial history.

Abstract
The analysis across spatial, temporal and governance scales shows an inequitable distribution of risk across Canada's Metro Vancouver region. For First Nation communities in this region, this risk is rooted in the colonial history of land dispossession. This article makes a contribution by expanding our understanding of historic creation of riskscapes and a discussion of its implications as a multiscale governance issue that persists across space and time. This article also situates the impacts of projected sea level rise on Indigenous communities in the context of regional, provincial and federal settler-colonial flood risk management regime.

In Latin America, rural and indigenous women have mobilised in defence of their territories and built strategic alliances with urban and mestiza feminist movements. This paper focuses on how these processes have played out in Peru, tracing the development of the discourse on 'body as territory', which articulates sexual and reproductive rights with territorial autonomy. It discusses the 'cosmopolitics' of translating the distinct concerns and worldviews of the women involved, arguing that this discourse has enabled partial recognition and strategic equivalencing but that it has failed to fundamentally transform the underlying asymmetric relations of power and privilege.

The article analyzes the text of the «Canada's Arctic and Northern Policy Framework», published in September 2019. The author conducted a comparative analysis with a comparable document «Canada's Northern Strategy: Our North, Our Heritage, Our Future» of 2009. As a result, new approaches to the development of Canada's Northern policy were revealed. There were detected unchanged priorities and goals, as well as emphases of the Canadian government in the shaping of Arctic and Northern policy on addressing the socio-economic problems of indigenous peoples and residents of the North of Canada.

Integrating personal stories of maternal connection and separation with a detailed analysis of the 2018 crisis of migrant family separation in the United States, this autoethnographic essay examines the continuum between parental responsibility and collective engagement for the greater good. A comparison is made between the current crisis of family separation and the case of the Stolen Generations of Indigenous children in Australia, particularly the tendency toward collective forgetting. The essay calls for the protective and compassionate impulses felt in the midst of this crisis to be translated into democratic participation and empowered voices raised in resistance.

PurposeDrawing on basic psychological needs theory, this paper aims to delineate how an indigenous Chinese concept guanxi HRM would undermine employee well-being in China.Design/methodology/approachThe authors tested this moderated mediation model based on a survey of 321 Chinese employees.FindingsThe results are consistent with the hypotheses except for the moderating effect when employee well-being is operationalised as emotional exhaustion.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by investigating the dark side of guanxi via basic psychological needs theory and acknowledging the multidimensionality of employee well-being in the Chinese workplace.
