The article deals with the creation of a code of civil legislation of the Ottoman Empire. Majalla is the first successful large-scale codification of Islamic law, occurring during the Tanzimat period in the Ottoman Empire. It is one of the examples of the successful codification of Islamic law, which allows answering questions about the compatibility of democratic and Muslim principles, the possibility of building a rule of law state within the framework of the Islamic justice system, and the relationship between the divine and legal nature of the norms of Islamic law.

ZusammenfassungWährend interreligiöse Dialoge durch ikonische architektonische Projekte eine größere öffentliche Sichtbarkeit und mediale Aufmerksamkeit erlangt haben, ist deren breitere gesellschaftliche Wahrnehmung und Wirkung weitestgehend unerforscht. Der Beitrag untersucht gruppenspezifische Wahrnehmungen interreligiöser Beziehungen und Positionierungen zu interreligiösen Dialogen. Im Zentrum der Analyse stehen dabei die Debatten zum BerlinerHouse of One, einem derzeit im Bau befindlichen multireligiösen Gebäude. Unter Rückgriff auf soziologische Konzeptualisierungen zum Verhältnis von Religion, Macht und Stadtraum untersucht der Beitrag, welche unterschiedlichen sozialen Positionen religiöser Akteur*innen (Protestant*innen, Alevit*innen und Muslim*innen) in den kulturellen Hierarchien urbaner Räume sich in solchen Wahrnehmungen dokumentieren. Wir argumentieren, dass die in diskursiven Aushandlungsprozessen zu interreligiösen Dialogen vorgenommenen Positionierungen solche kulturellen Hierarchien auf besondere Weise hervortreten lassen und damit auch auf blinde Flecken des Dialog-Paradigmas aufmerksam machen. The colonial encounter between the Hausa and the British produced multiple layers of experiences both for the coloniser and the colonised. In addition to its violent history of conquest and domination, it created a 'text' of learning through which ideas of 'mixing truth with falsehood' were presented, localised and propagated as counterweight to the dominant Muslim epistemology. Mediating and navigating these spaces require deeper understanding and the skilful weaving of divergent epistemologies of the world. In this article, the role of the 'native speaker' as a cultural broker is explored.

This article analyzes historical, theoretical and scriptural bases of missionary work in Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam, which are classified as World Religions. In particular, significance of early Buddhist missions, social, and political factors that influenced the spread of classical Buddhism and its modern forms as Lamaism and Zen Buddhism throughout the world is examined. Also, it is stated that Christianity is considered as most active missionary religion, has passed through seven stages in its history. In addition, it is argued that Islamic missionary or da'wah happened in parallel of Islamic conquests, activity of Muslim traders and hermits (sufis).

In this thesis, I analyze the rhetoric circulating during the 1977-78 textbook controversy debates and further probe into the politics of religion and identity in post-Independence India. I discuss the subsequent issues that have emerged due to a deeply divided and disputed historical narrative about who Indians are (and who they should be) as well as how Hindus and Muslims have internalized their identities. Further, I analyze Rajya Sabha debates from 1977-78 to trace the ideograph as it moves through Indian political discourse and discuss its implications for Indian multiculturalism and communal coexistence.

Die 'Takfiristen' sind eine stark sektenartige Strömung des Jihadismus, deren Anhänger glauben, dass fast alle Muslime außer ihnen selbst ungläubig sind. Aufgrund ihrer geringen Zahl hatten viele von ihnen die Hoffnung aufgegeben, einen erfolgreichen 'Jihad' gegen die Feinde des Islam führen zu können. Dies änderte sich mit der Ausrufung des Islamischen Staates (IS) im Juni 2014, als viele Takfiristen aus Europa, den Kaukasusländern, Saudi-Arabien und Nordafrika nach Syrien und in den Irak zogen und sich dem IS anschlossen - während andere diesen Schritt ablehnten, auf den bewaffneten Kampf verzichteten und in ihren Heimatländern blieben. Seitdem stellt sich die Frage nach der Gefährlichkeit der Takfiristen erneut. Der Anschlag in Wien am 2. November 2020 hat der Debatte neue Nahrung verschafft, denn der Attentäter verkehrte vor seinem Ausreiseversuch nach Syrien im Jahr 2018 in einer takfiristischen Moschee in der österreichischen Hauptstadt. Er ist das jüngste Beispiel dafür, dass die Takfiristen ein integraler Bestandteil der jihadistischen Bewegung sind und eine teils unterschätzte Gefahr darstellen.

This study presents reflections on recent changes observed in China's relations with neighboring countries with which it has land territorial disputes, India and Bhutan. Subsequently, China's current attitude towards its maritime neighbors will be characterized. Thirdly, the current aggressive policies of the central government against Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the systematic policy of control of the Muslim minority in Xinjiang are related. The analysis highlights China's new diplomatic tools to deal with its national and regional security threats. The study concludes with projections on regional and international scenarios for Chinese power.

Abstract
In this study of current trends in the socio-religious life of Muslim communities in major urban centres and cities of Tanzania – Morogoro, Mwanza, and Dar es Salaam – 'Islamisation' denotes the strategies and activities that have been key to the spreading practice of Islam over the past three decades (1985-2015). In this period, Islam has embraced new approaches to social, political and economic change. This can be seen reflected in tangible ways as an institutionalized awakening of Islam consolidates faith, unifies sects, and promotes Qur'anic and hadith teachings in everyday life during this the post-Ujamaa era of Tanzania's history.

The article is devoted to the daily life of the Saratov people, who disappeared from the historical arena as a result of the national division held in 1924. The authors ' interest is focused on the gender aspect of the problem. The main attention is paid to the way of life, customs, and character of the Sarti women, as the least known part of the Muslim society of Turkestan. The sources used are the works of ethnographers, historians, Orientalists, and simply eyewitnesses who visited or lived in Turkestan at the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries.

This essay analyzes the role of politics and power in Shahab Ahmed's What Is Islam? It is framed around three questions: (1) What kind of question is "What is Islam?"—or rather, for whom is this a question, and from which spaces and out of which times does it arise? (2) Who is the Muslim subject foregrounded in this book, and what are this Muslim's political and theological commitments? (3) What relations of power are embedded in the elevation of the "Balkans-to-Bengal complex" as the normative temporal-geographic entity?

This research develops a much-needed approach to the study of glazed ware production in al-Andalus (Muslim Spain and Portugal) during the early Middle Ages. The introduction of glaze to the Iberian Peninsula was a long and complex process involving three waves of technology transfer arriving from the eastern Islamic regions between the ninth and eleventh centuries. In this paper, the main glaze workshops of each technological wave have been characterised in order to understand how the medieval technological transmission took place and how political and economic factors influenced this gradual dissemination. ; Postprint (published version)

ulisan ini menjelaskan tentang keragaman teologi yang terjadi di kalangan masyarakat muslim berawal dari masalah politik sejak wafatnya rasulullah saw. Masalah kepemimpinan dan "tahkim" menjadi tema sentral yang sangat mempengaruhi polarisasi teologi umat yang menimbulkan konflik dan yang menghasilkan kecendrungan radikal, moderat, dan liberal. Kebebasan beragama di Indonesia, sejatinya menjadikan seseorang mampu meniadakan diskriminasi berdasarkan agama, menjauhi pelanggaran terhadap hak untuk beragama, dan paksaan yang akan mengganggu kebebasan seseorang untuk mempunyai agama atau kepercayaan. Ini harus tercermin dalam pergaulan sosial yang menunjukkan saling pengertian, toleransi, persahabatan dengan semua orang, perdamaian, dan persaudaraan universal.

Maraknya truth claim, radikalisme, politisasi, dan fundamentalisme agama, serta wacana formalisasi syari'at negara khil?fah al-Isl?miyah menyebabkan perpecahan dan mengancam stabilitas negara Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu, perlu wawasan dan paradigma multikultural, inklusif dan pluralis yang berbasis pada spirit keislaman dengan membumikan Islam rahmatan lil '?lam?n dan spirit keindonesiaan yang menghargai keragaman (pluralitas). Salah satu pemikir dan cendekiawan muslim Indonesia yang giat dan aktif menyuarakan spirit keislaman dan keindonesiaan adalah Nurcholish Madjid. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengambil fokus pada pemikiran Nurcholish Madjid mengenai konsep spirit keislaman dan keindonesiaan.
