This book provides a detailed analysis of the law and practice of international criminal justice in atrocity situations within Africa. Using the framework of atrocity law and justice, it examines national, regional, and international trials for atrocity crimes, including trials before foreign courts, including the challenges posed by extradition laws to the attainment of justice. The book also examines quasi-criminal processes adopted by some countries for bringing perpetrators to justice. It notes the politics of and the tensions within international criminal justice, the unending challenges to the existing framework by African countries, and the possibility of the emergence of an alternative or complementary regional criminal justice system

This edited volume analyzes the increasingly important political interactions between Europeprimarily the EUand Asia within the context of two recent global trends: the rise of China and the withdrawal of the U.S. from multilateral commitments. In an age of receding American leadership and reduced commitments to its European allies, the EU and its member states have become more open to seeking and considering new partnerships, while the rising economic prowess of Asia has made it of particular interest for Europe. On the occasion of their joint government consultations in February 2016, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that this was not the time for making major progress in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, given the instability in the Middle East. However, merely adhering to a two-state settlement as a mantra without taking any concrete steps to implement it effectively reinforces the one-state reality under Israeli dominance. Ultimately, this will make settling the conflict impossible. Popular support for a two-state solution is waning on both sides. While at present alternative one-state or confederate models have even slimmer chances of being realized, Germany and the EU should nevertheless explore the creative and constructive aspects of these models, which would enable the two sides to maintain their national identities as well as realize their individual and collective rights. Their priority, however, should be to alter the cost-benefit calculation of the parties to the conflict, so as to generate the political will for bringing about a settlement at all. (Autorenreferat)

This article analyzes how gender studies, in specific the Gender Mainstreaming, contribute to the understanding of global security. In consequence, it seeks to identify actions that affect women as subject protagonist and not merely as a subject receiver or international public policy measures. In consideration of the foregoing, it is answer the following question: what theoretical and conceptual contributions make the gender studies to understand the global security in the twenty-first century? Through this question is defined the existence of a gender agenda in the global security for two concepts: the woman as a subject of protection, and woman as subjects of pacification. ; Este artículo analiza cómo los estudios de género, en específico el gender mainstreaming, contribuyen a la comprensión de la seguridad global. En tal sentido, se busca detectar las acciones que afectan a la mujer como sujeto protagonista y no meramente como sujeto receptor de medidas o políticas públicas internacionales. En consideración de lo anterior, se responde a la siguiente pregunta: ¿qué aportes teóricos y conceptuales hacen los estudios de género en la comprensión de la seguridad global en el siglo XXI?
