In November 2013, the South African-German Centre for Transnational Criminal Justice hosted a conference on "Africa and the International Criminal Court", in Cape Town, South Africa. The theme of the Conference was the strained relationship between African states, represented by the African Union (AU), and the International Criminal Court (ICC). This relationship started promisingly but has been in crisis in recent years. This book sheds light on the present frictions between the AU, the ICC and the UN Security Council. Eminent experts in the field of international criminal justice, including judges and prosecutors of the ICC and other African judicial bodies, as well as international criminal law scholars, analyze and debate the achievements and shortcomings of interventions by the ICC in Africa. They propose ways in which international courts and domestic courts within and outside of Africa can cooperate and address fundamental issues of international criminal law, such as the implementation of the Rome Statute, deferrals of cases before the International Criminal Court and the prosecution of crimes by third states on the basis of universal jurisdiction. Can cultural heritage be adequately protected vis-à-vis economic globalization? This book investigates whether and how international economic law governs cultural phenomena by mapping the relevant legal framework, discussing the relevant disputes concerning cultural elements adjudicated before international economic 'courts' (namely the World Trade Organization adjudicative bodies and investment treaty arbitral tribunals), and proposing legal methods to reconcile cultural and economic interests. It thus provides a comprehensive evaluation of possible solutions, including evolution of the law through treaty interpretation and reforms, to improve the balance between economic governance and cultural policy objectives.

Beschwingt erzählen 2 Journalistinnen, dass es einerseits aufregend und schön sein kann, "international zu lieben", andererseits oft genug aufreibend und anstrengend ist. Die beiden Frauen sind bei dem Thema echte Profis, denn eine ist liiert mit einem Dänen, die andere ist die Frau eines spanischen Wissenschaftlers. Dies gibt dem Buch, das man allen Lesern ans Herz legen möchte, die einen Partner aus einem anderen Kulturraum wählen, eine Qualität besonderer Art. Im Zentrum stehen die privaten Beziehungen der Autorinnen, zu Wort kommen aber auch andere Paare, z.B. Isabel aus Bolivien und der Deutsche Adrian. Themen wie Vorurteile, Kulturunterschiede, Bilingualität, verschiedene Glaubensrichtungen, Heimweh u.v.m. werden aufgegriffen und anhand von Fallbeispielen verdeutlicht. Wie man daraus entstehende Probleme meistert, erfährt man entweder von den Betroffenen selbst oder kann nachlesen, was Experten, z.B. Psychologinnen mit Schwerpunkt "internationale Paare", raten. Das kluge, hilfreiche Buch verdient das Etikett "Edutainment" zurecht und sollte nicht nur Betroffenen wärmstens empfohlen werden. (2)

Seit der Machtübernahme der Taliban am 15. August 2021 hat sich die Situation von Frauen und Mädchen in Afghanistan dramatisch verschlechtert. Anlässlich des Internationalen Frauentags haben die PRIF-Forscherinnen Dr. habil. Simone Wisotzki und Irem Demirci mit Dr. Alema Alema gesprochen, die in Afghanistan stellvertretende Friedensministerin war und heute als Afghanistan-Referentin bei Pro Asyl tätig ist.

Dr. Alema Alema ist eine afghanische Sozialwissenschaftlerin und Philosophin. Sie war stellvertretende Friedensministerin in Afghanistan. Dr. Alema verfügt über mehr als dreißig Jahre Berufserfahrung in den Bereichen Konfliktanalyse, Entwicklung und Projektmanagement in Konflikt- und Postkonfliktsituationen. Sie ist Autorin von Publikationen zu den deutsch-afghanischen Außenbeziehungen und zur Stärkung der Rolle der Frau in Afghanistan. Seit Januar 2022 ist sie Afghanistan-Referentin der Menschenrechtsorganisation Pro Asyl.

Africa has been, and continues to be, marginalised in both the practice and study of international relations (IR). However, in light of the increased influence of the emerging powers on the continent, and Africa's improved pro- spects for economic growth and develop- ment, in recent years there has been a renewed interest in its role in the international system. This book responds to what the editor calls 'the emerging political prominence of the African con- tinent on the world stage' (1) by providing one of the most comprehensive overviews of Africa's IR to date.

The world crisis combusted has essentially changed a situation almost in all life spheres, and primarily on labor markets. However, weight of evidence suggests that many features of the world labor market which dawned in the second half of the 20th century – in the early 21st century will preserve their main outlines. L'article retrace les sources de l'immigration vers le Canada et les États-Unis depuis l'après-guerre et brosse un tableau de l'immigration pratiquée en Europe de l'Ouest. Traiter de l'immigration internationale, c'est aussi toucher aux pratiques des pays d'accueil en cette matière : leurs politiques aux frontières (sélection) mais aussi leurs politiques à l'intérieur (accueil, intégration). Enfin, toujours en termes politiques, l'immigration peut être perçue dans un jeu de relations de pouvoir qui s'établissent tant au niveau international, entre le pays d'accueil et d'autres pays, qu'au sein même de la société d'accueil.
