Despite control efforts, Mycobacterium bovis incidence among cattle remains high in parts of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, attracting political and public health interest in potential spread from animals to humans. To determine incidence among humans and to identify associated factors, we conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of human M. bovis cases in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland during 2002-2014. We identified 357 cases and observed increased annual case numbers (from 17 to 35) and rates. Most patients were >65 years of age and born in the United Kingdom. The median age of UK-born patients decreased over time. For 74% of patients, exposure to risk factors accounting for M. bovis acquisition, most frequently consumption of unpasteurized milk, was known. Despite the small increase in case numbers and reduction in patient age, M. bovis infection of humans in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland remains rare.

AbstractMonitoring and evaluation (M&E) for ecosystem‐based adaptation (EbA) projects is in its infancy. Specific M&E challenges lend EbA projects to the use of program theory. In this article, we will examine how two theory‐based tools—theory‐of‐change models and evidence synthesis—can be used to instruct informative EbA M&E through characterizing pathways to impact, identifying causal mechanisms, distinguishing relevant indicators, and recognizing areas of uncertainty, particularly in data‐poor environments where intuition and anecdote often substitute for evidence. It will be framed in the context of two EbA case studies, implemented by our organization, in which we will bring together elements from the development of theory‐of‐change models and provide examples of evidence synthesis underpinning a causal linkage. We argue that such an approach is essential for EbA projects to enable rapid learning and foster a culture of adaptive management.

Despite the prevalence of international mergers and acquisitions (M&A) there is a dearth of studies that draw on employee accounts of how they are affected by the associated restructuring. This omission is important because of the likely role of national context in conditioning the way employees are affected by organizational change in the post-merger period and the way in which employee perceptions of a merger are likely to vary according to which party to the merger an employee worked for previously. This article addresses three questions. First, to what extent are employee perceptions of an international M&A conditioned by the national context in which they operate? Second, how do employee perceptions of an international M&A differ between those in the dominant and those in the dominated parties to the merger? Third, are these twin effects independent or interdependent?

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to interpret systematically M. M. Bakhtin's views on genre. Although Aristotle was the first philosopher—and one of the first thinkers in general who focused on the issues of artistic and rhetorical genres, philosophy as such did not treat these issues for a considerably long time. One of the first philosophers who approached the genre issue within the larger context of the philosophy of language was Mikhail M. Bakhtin, a Russian philosopher and a literary scholar. As early as the 1920s he founded philosophical thinking on the so-called small speech genres, which later served as the basis for a remarkable theory of primary and secondary genres. Bakhtin is a world renowned theoretician on the novel, but his genre theory is nevertheless very topical, too, since it relates to issues focused on by philosophers much later.

Se pone de manifiesto que una amenaza como la del terrorismo internacional sólo puede combatirse a través de "más Europa". Como consecuencia del 11-M –que es en definitiva nuestro 11-S– y de las elecciones del 14-M se ha producido un cambio en la situación política europea y mundial de gran trascendencia. Un fenómeno propio de la sociedad internacional de la globalización como es el terrorismo internacional pone de manifiesto la inadecuación del nivel estatal para combatirlo y así se hace indispensable en la búsqueda de respuestas la cooperación internacional, sea en el seno de la Unión Europea o, incluso, en marcos más amplios.

ABSTRACTSince 1978 the Left Front government in West Bengal, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) — CPI(M) — has pursued a strategy of decentralized planning through locally elected panchayats (councils) in the countryside. The stated ideological commitment of the CP1(M) is to support and eventually empower the poor and oppressed and this has resulted in Panchayati Raj assuming the status of not just a state sponsored decentralization strategy, but the institutional forum for the mobilization of the poor and the expansion of the party's base. However the CPI(M)'s strategy is to some extent ambiguous in that it combines a need to maintain an electoral status as a party leading a state government within the Indian Union and a political status as a party promoting the conditions for, and the transition to, a people's democracy and thereby socialism.

Two studies investigated how temperature and crowding affect attitudes and behavior. In the first study, passengers in three-wheeled autorickshaws were interviewed under one of three levels of crowding and at one of three temperature ranges during February (M = 80.3°F), April (M = 88.3°F), and May (M = 99.2°F). Analyses revealed a main effect for crowding on most dependent measures, a main effect for temperature on a few measures, and interactions of these variables on measures of crowding and general affect. In the second study, passengers riding under crowded or noncrowded conditions were told of the sensory/emotional effects of either crowding or heat, or they were not told anything. Results indicated that crowding produced negative effects and that telling people about the effects of heat gave participants the feeling of greater perceived control as compared to telling them about the effects of crowding.
