The "European Green Deal" stipulates that the EU will become climate-neutral by 2050. This transformation requires enormous investments in all major sectors including energy, mobility, industrial manufacturing, real estate and farming. Although the EU Commission has announced that a total of EUR 1 trillion will be invested into the green transformation of the European economy over the next ten years, the majority of the investments must be financed by the private sector. Alongside many factors affecting a successful implementation of the Green Deal, a regulatory framework for the financial industry has to be established to facilitate the financing of sustainable investments. To that end, the European Sustainable Finance Strategy lays the foundation for a complex set of different measures that have been launched in recent years. This article provides a comprehensive overview of key regulatory initiatives such as the taxonomy regulation, the disclosure frameworks for both corporates and financial institutions and other aspects of financial market regulation that have already significantly improved the regulatory framework for sustainable finance. Nevertheless, some additional instruments could be considered, such as a reform of top management remuneration or the provision of tax incentives for green investments in the real economy, and these are briefly discussed.

Ever closer relations between China and Europe over the last decade have sparked speculation about an emerging axis or balance of power vis-à-vis the United States. China, the European Union and its key member states have expressed a preference for a more balanced international order based on multilateral institutions. Despite a rapid and extensive expansion in economic and political relations between China and the European Union, there is no evidence for balancing against the United States in strategic areas. Rather, the variations in the positions of China, the European Union and the United States can more accurately be seen as policy or interest bargaining. Because the European Union does not share US security interests in the Asia-Pacific region, the European Union and its key member states can seem at variance with the US position on China. Bargaining over the failed attempt to lift the European Union's arms embargo against China shows that the European Union and the United States are not so far apart on strategic issues in the Asia-Pacific. 24.6.2015 Connecting for Life is Ireland's National Strategy to reduce suicide (2015-2020). The development of the strategy was a collaborative and inclusive process. Some of the most important contributions to the development of â?~Connecting for Lifeâ?T came from our public consultation process. We received 272 submissions from people and organisations, which included members of the general public, people who have used our services and their families, professional bodies and community interests and organisations. Next year, the European Security Strategy: A Secure Europe in a Better World will be ten years old. Both the European Union and the world around it have changed in that time. In this Clingendael Policy Brief Margriet Drent and Lennart Landman argue that the European Union's foreign and security policy's ability to deliver would benefit from a rewriting of the European Security Strategy from 2003. Drafting a new European Security Strategy in 2013 is necessary and timely, particularly in times of shifting power configurations, a relative power decline on the part of Europe and a post-Lisbon EU that is in need of a clear 'mission statement'.

The European Union (EU) is currently facing an uncertain future as member states debate the importance of political and economic cooperation. Although the organisation was founded on liberal principles, national discourses based on realist strategies have become more prevalent, spurred by debates on borders and identity issues. In essence, Europe cannot be liberal in principle while pursuing realist policies. Focusing on the concept of identity, this paper argues for a theoretical redirection of the EU, calling for a new geopolitical concept of identity based on its liberal tradition.

Résumé Dans cet article, l'auteur donne une vision de l'Europe 2020 et des possibilités de son impact bénéfique dans le contexte politique et économique actuel. En remplaçant la stratégie de Lisbonne qui a échoué, l'Europe 2020 – programmes nationaux de réforme, initiatives phares, marché unique – se conçoit comme une méthode et un programme globaux pour l'Union européenne de la prochaine décennie, renforçant les liens entre les États membres et l'Union, et approfondissant ainsi l'intégration. Dans le cadre de l'Europe 2020, de saines politiques fiscales et financières doivent être mises en corrélation avec une nécessaire stratégie de croissance, dans laquelle les domaines qui sont soumis à la méthode communautaire et ceux réservés aux États membres seraient coordonnés de manière efficace. Le rôle de la Commission devrait être renforcé. La gouvernance est donc une question centrale. Dans une perspective politique, la stratégie Europe 2020 peut être considérée comme une ouverture vers un gouvernement économique. Sous les strictes conditions de sa réalisation selon les décisions du Conseil en 2010, l'Europe 2020 peut favoriser de façon décisive la solidité de l'économie et un environnement plus stable orienté vers l'avenir. Les acteurs non gouvernementaux comme les entreprises, les organisations et la société civile devraient être considérés comme acteurs engagés dans ce processus.
