In the article the Cossack chronicles of Samovodska, Gregory Hrabianka, Samilo Velichko are reviewed. They are important sources of Ukrainian culture history.At the end of the XVIth and at the beginning of the XVIIth centuries some changes happened in the social and spiritual life of Ukraine. They led to the creation of a new social class – the cossacks, which did the most important tasks of the whole nation, played the main role in the its development.The cossacks created an amazing, multifaceted, original culture, which occupied a special page of Ukrainian culture. The cossack chronicles are very important monuments among the achievements of cossack culture and valuablesources for the study of Ukrainian culture history. They are historical and literary works of the second half of XVII – XVIII century, devoted to the cossack wars. That's why they are called "Cossack" or "Lieutenant-colonel", but they differ from the traditional chronicles very much.Nowadays we have only three famous cossack chronicle. They are Witness' Chronicle (devoted to the events ofthe 1648-1702 years, probable author – Roman Rakushka-Romanov) Hrabianka Chronicle ((1710) about the period from the origin of cossacks till 1709) and Chronicle Family Wieliczka ((1720) events in Ukraine in the 1648-1700 years).Witness' Chronicle is one of the greatest historiographical monument and one of the most reliable historical sources of the XVIIth century. In addition, it is a distinctive and original monument of Ukrainian language and literature.The chronicle as a historical source, written by an eyewitness, contains important factual information about thehistory of Ukrainian, Russian, Byelorussian, Polish and other nations in the second part of the XVIIth century. Most of it is unique. The first part of the work, devoted to the period from 1648 to 1677 years, is written mainly in a historical style.The author follows the logical and causal consistency in the review of events. His historical stories have titles, consequences and are logically connected.The second part of the chronicle ( till 1702) concerned the chronicle tradition. There are not any forestalls in thiswork, because the author was a witness of that events and did not know their end. The author used the method of gaining information, which consists of the mechanical reproduction of historical facts, and the author's interpretation of those facts.The central topic of Witness' chronicle is a national liberation war of Ukrainians in 1648-1654. There are economic, political and cultural characteristics of the country, the fact from the history of Russia, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Moldova, Turkey and other states in this chronicle.Witness is more interested in the theme of wealth destruction, devastation, robbing of the most part of society by the "black" and external enemies. On the other hand, he condemns all people who shed the blood of people, tortured them and did tyranny, regardless of their social status.As for the political views of Witness, he openly sympathized the monarchy – whether it was the king of Poland, or the tsar of Moscow. He did not think about Ukraine as an independent state. Witness historical worldview definedcategories of "earth" causality. In his work the theme of the Divine mostly meant traditional ethic formula. The author explained the causes of historical events by the circumstances of life and human motives.Another famous cossack chronicle writer was Gregory Hrabianka, Gadyach colonel. His chronicle – one of thebrightest and most valuable works of Ukrainian chronicles. The author focused on the event of the liberation war in 1648-1654 and the vivid descriptions of cossack battles. Its first translation from old Ukrainian into modern language was done by H.Ivanchenko in 1992.Chronicle is a typical example of rhetorical genre of historical literature such as narrative. The attention is particular paid to the description of extreme situations, heroic and moral lessons of a "historic drama." Its composition and subject is clear. It should be considered primarily as a literary work, not as historical. The author shows no documentary evidence and presents the literary-adapted history aimed to the public reading. First of all, he expects asignificant emotional impact on the reader. In the gradual loss of Ukraine's autonomy,the main tasks of Hrabianka was to remind about the old cossack glory.The main object of his research is a history of cossacks. The central figure of Hrabianka's chronicle is Bogdan Khmelnitsky. This is the main character of a work where the author units the features of a real historical figure and the ideal leader. In Hrabianka's description, Bogdan Khmelnitsky remains an icon and a model for the next generations.Family Wieliczko chronicle was the great stage in the history of the Cossack chronicles and the most outstanding Ukrainian historical-fiction memoir in XVII-XVIII centuries.The chronicle is the first systematic exposition of the history of Ukrainian Cossack state where the author usesmany Ukrainian, Polish, German sources, a lot of the general military office documents. Writing the chronicle, Samuel Velichko used various sources: folk tales, other cossack chronicles, works of foreign historians, archival documents, letters, registers, etc. The authenticity of the many documents, listed in the record, is not discussed by historians; because some of them are known from other sources.The chronicle consists of 4 parts. The first one – "Legend of the cossack war with the Poles caused by ZenoviyBohdan Khmelnytsky ." describes the events of the 1648-1659 years, individual episodes dating back to 1620. Thesecond and the third parts, covered periods of the 1660-1686 and 1687-1700 years, are called "Chronicle story aboutmalorussian and other behavior which got and described there" contain a lot of Velichko's observations based on thedocuments of the Hetman's Office. The forth one contains the applications from different documents of the 17th century.It was the first fundamental historical research where the author used systematically a great number of sourceson a special topic. As historian and ruled by the rhetoric of baroque art, Velichko wanted to create an impressive picture of military feats and tests, glory and betrayal, blinded heroes by their passions and immense human suffering, which the Ukrainian people met in a day of great social events – the National Liberation War and Ruin.Velichko was a humanist and a democrat. He also was an admirer of the cossacks and considered them a real defenders of Ukraine and national and democratic "rights and liberties" of the Ukrainian people. The cossack chronicler rudely criticized internecine struggle for the hetman power and thought that it led to the ruin of his country, split Cossacks into hostile camps. This situation was used by Poland, Moscow and Turkey to establish their dominance in Ukraine.S. Velichko tries to highlight the history of Ukraine in the context of the most important events in neighboring countries – Poland, Muscovy, Hungary, Moldova, Crimea, Turkey.Certainly, the figure of Velichko is a decisive criterion for his work in general and the concept of baroque personality, because the author was such baroque person in his style of thinking and attitude.Velichko's chronicle became the favorite book for all our historians. Our best writers drew from it the materials and the spiritual energy. This is a really great book of the Ukrainian people. This is a feat life Samiylo Velichko.According previous information, the author concludes that the cossack chronicles of Witness, Hrabianka and Velichko are important sources of research into the history of Ukrainian culture, and our national pride. In Part II (the main part, pp. 11-99, Ref. [37]), as a new mathematical approach to the origin of basic laws of nature, using a new algebraic axiomatic (matrix) formalism based on the ring theory and Clifford algebras (presented in Sec.2), "it is shown that certain mathematical forms of the fundamental laws of nature, including laws governing the fundamental forces of nature (represented by a set of two definite classes of general covariant massive field equations, with new matrix formalisms), are derived uniquely from only a very few axioms" ; where in agreement with the rational Lorentz group, it is also basically assumed that the components of relativistic energy-momentum can only take rational values. Based on the definite mathematical formalism of this axiomatic approach, along with the C, P and T symmetries (represented by the corresponding quantum matrix operators) of the fundamentally derived field equations, it is concluded that the universe could be realized solely with the (1+2) and (1+3)-dimensional space-times. On the basis of these discrete symmetries of the derived field equations, it has been also shown that only left-handed particle fields (along with their complementary right-handed fields) could be coupled to the corresponding (any) source currents. Moreover, it is shown that the (1+3)-dimensional cases of uniquely determined two classes of general covariant field equations, represent, respectively, new massive forms of the bispinor fields of spin-2, and spin-1 particles; and (1+2)-dimensional cases of these equations represent new massive forms of the bispinor fields of spin-3/2 and spin-1/2 particles, respectively. As a particular consequence, it is shown that a certain massive formalism of general relativity – with a definite form of torsion field appeared originally as the generator of gravitational field's invariant mass – is obtained only by first quantization (followed by a basic procedure of minimal coupling to space-time geometry) of a certain set of special relativistic algebraic matrix equations. It has been also proved that Lagrangian densities specified for the originally derived new massive forms of the Maxwell, Yang-Mills and Dirac field equations, are also gauge invariant, where the invariant mass of each field is generated solely by the corresponding torsion field. In addition, in agreement with recent astronomical data, a new form of massive gauge boson is identified (compatible with U(1) symmetry group) with invariant mass: " m γ ≈ 4.90571×10 -50 kg ", which generated by a coupled torsion field of the background space-time geometry. Moreover, based on the definite mathematical formalism of this axiomatic approach, along with the C, P and T symmetries (represented basically by the corresponding quantum operators) of the fundamentally derived field equations, it has been concluded that the universe could be realized solely with the (1+2) and (1+3)-dimensional space-times (where this conclusion, in particular, is based on the T-symmetry). It is proved that CPT is the only (unique) combination of C, P, and T symmetries that could be defined as a symmetry for interacting fields. In addition, on the basis of these discrete symmetries of derived field equations, it has been also shown that only left-handed particle fields (along with their complementary right-handed fields) could be coupled to the corresponding (any) source currents. Furthermore, it has been shown that the metric of background space-time is diagonalized for the uniquely derived fermion field equations (defined and expressed solely in (1+2)-dimensional space-time), where this property generates a certain set of additional symmetries corresponding uniquely to the "SU(2) L ⊗U(2) R " symmetry group for spin-1/2 fermion fields (representing "1+3" generations of four fermions, including a group of eight leptons and a group of eight quarks), and also the "SU(2) L ⊗U(2) R " gauge symmetry groups for spin-1 boson fields coupled to the spin-1/2 fermionic source currents. Hence, along with the known elementary particles, eight new elementary particles, including four new charge-less right-handed spin-1/2 fermions (two leptons and two quarks), a spin-3/2 fermion, and also three new spin-1 (massive) bosons are predicted axiomatically by this new mathematical approach (on a fundamental gauge-theoretic basis) . The Ministers of the Environment from the Baltic Sea Countries and the High Representative of the European Commission in November 2007, within the framework of HELCOM, adopted the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) concerning the Baltic Proper, the Gulf of Riga and the Gulf of Finland. The goal of the action plan is to achieve good environmental status by 2021. The action plan consists of around 150 different activities in four main segments; eutrophication, hazardous substances, biodiversity and nature conservation including fisheries, and maritime activities. At the Ministerial Meeting in Moscow 2010 it was recognised that there is a need to support activities agreed in the BSAP and to follow up the implementation of the Russian NIP with regard to e.g. the eutrophication and hazardous substances segments (mainly heavy metals) and to do that it is most important to have reliable monitoring and assessment.In the Copenhagen Ministerial Meeting 2013 the ministers decided on further actions and recommendations adding to the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan including updated country-allocated nutrient reduction targets (CART). It further agreed to monitor and evaluate regularly the progress in implementing the measures to reduce the nutrient inputs and to develop and deliver operational assessments of pressures of e.g. nutrient and hazardous substances inputs (PLCs). In the review of the fifth Pollution Load Compilation (PLC 5.5) for the 2013 HELCOM Ministerial Meeting the PLC data sets were updated and for several countries also corrected and gap-filled. The Russian data were partly estimated due to serious gaps and uncertainties in data reported from the Russian Federation. The present document is a report from a joint co-operation project between Sweden and the Russian Federation "Capacity for Compliance with Baltic Sea Action Plan", named RusNIP II. The aim of the activities in RusNIP II is to contribute to the harmonisation of assessment methods in the Russian catchment area of the Baltic Sea in order to produce comparable and reliable data on pollution loads, mainly nutrients and selected hazardous substances. Such data are needed for use within HELCOM PLC assessments and the follow-up of measures taken to fulfil the BSAP requirements concerning nutrient reduction targets (CART). The project started in 2012, but the RusNIP II project has awaited the outcome of the EU BaltHazAR project before starting some of the RusNIP activities in order not to do any double work. The BaltHazAR II project was finalized 30 June 2012At the 2013 HELCOM Ministerial Meeting it was decided on new nutrient reduction targets for all HELCOM countries including both waterborne and airborne inputs to the Baltic Sea. Based on these figures new input targets (Maximum Allowable Inputs, or MAI) for waterborne nitrogen and phosphorus to sub-basins from Russia were calculated in order to estimate the distance o targets and the reductions required. Reduction targets for Russia are especially strict for phosphorus, and inputs has to be reduced by 50–60 % both for Gulf of Finland and Baltic Proper, as compared with the mean load during 1997–2003. For nitrogen a reduction of 11 % is required for Gulf of Finland and 19 % for Baltic Proper.Nitrogen waterborne load from Russia to Gulf of Finland is at present about 70,000 tons per year and it has not changed much during the period 1994 – 2010. The distance to target during 2008–2010 is about 5,000 ton/yr. For phosphorus a considerable reduction has occurred since 2005–2006, corresponding to about 1,500 tons of P/yr. or about half-way to the input target. The load development to the Baltic Sea from Kaliningrad area is uncertain due to lack of data.A main task of the project has been to assess if the Russian monitoring and assessment system can deliver data and information to HELCOM, in compliance with HELCOM PLC requirements. The overall conclusion is that this is not the case. Russia has not yet fulfilled the HELCOM requirements for annual reporting of PLC data. The main gaps are: a) loads from point sources are given in aggregated form, b) not all obligatory parameters are measured in monitored river, c) unmonitored areas are not reported. In perennial reportings (every 6 years) Russia has reported discharges from coastal point sources and the total riverine inputs, but no source apportionment of inland nutrient sources has been performed. The project has identified three main reasons for the above mentioned deficiencies: The first is that the organisational structure for collecting and compiling data for HELCOM PLC is very complicated and includes a large number of communication steps, from the regional up to the federal level. To simplify and improve the efficiency of data collection and reporting it is proposed that the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation develops and approves legal documents that establish obligations for executors at all levels with regard to participation and submission of data and information to the Helsinki Commission on a regular basis. A second reason is insufficient funding. It is necessary to allocate additional funding from the federal budget, as well as to make necessary changes in the legislation of the Russian Federation. The latter refers specifically to regulatory documents and /or regulations that defines how the flow of information and timing regarding submission of the data to HELCOM, and specify the responsibilities of all levels of performers. A third reason is a lack of methodological basis and responsible authorities for the calculation and assessment of loads from unmonitored areas, diffuse sources, background load and retention. Such a basis is needed in order to be able to make complete source apportionments of loads from the Russian part of the Baltic Sea catchment rivers to the relevant Baltic Sea sub-basins. The project proposes several new methods in this respect. In order to be able to regularly perform calculations of source apportionment of nitrogen and phosphorus loads to the Baltic Sea, it is recommendable to use numerical models. A system for regular data collection, as part of the state monitoring, is needed to supply the models with indata and to update this information regularly. Specifically, we propose that the FyrisNP, or a similar model, should be set up for long-term use in all monitored rivers; Neva (downstream Ladoga), Luga, Narva and Pregolya. For Narva River this issue must be negotiated with Estonia. However, many of the challenges concerning river monitoring have been dealt with successfully. From now on Russia is able to fulfill HELCOM requirements for monitored rivers. Russia has also taken part in an inter-calibration exercise on chemical analyses of wastewater and river water within the HELCOM PLC 6 project.Within the project we have worked with test cases for modelling using the Swedish FyrisNP model and the Russian ILLM model. Advantages and disadvantages with these two numerical models were identified as well as information needed in order to use the models. A three day training course on the FyrisNP model was arranged at SLU, Uppsala in May 2012. In the course 12 Russian experts from authorities and institutions were present. Before the training course started a number of manuals were made available in Russian language. Further, the project has formulated a number of more detailed conclusions and recommendations in order to improve monitoring and assessments of pollution load from the Russian catchment area of the Baltic Sea. The different reports elaborated within the project have been discussed in working group meetings with responsible authorities and institutions which have given valuable comments and amendments to the final report and its annexes.
Europe's innovation potential is currently dominated by well-established large companies. In most member countries the bulk of R&D expenditures is spend by large companies. Following OECD data, SME's share in total R&D spending amount to 8% in Germany or Japan, around 15% in US, France, Korea or Italy, about 20% in Sweden, Finland or Switzerland, about 30% in Netherlands, Austria or Poland, and about 50% in Poland, Ireland, Slovakia or Greece. First of all, these figures point to a considerable heterogeneity with regard to the importance of SMEs in national R&D activities. However, young companies are said to be the driving force behind radical innovation which will be a source of employment and growth in future. In addition, the weakness of Europe is not only the small number of hightech startups but more specifically the number of hightech startups which accomplish continuing, rapid growth. However, there might be significant technology specific heterogeneity with regard to the contribution of SMEs and young firms to innovation. The central question of the paper is whether SMEs and young firms might be agents with a special contribution to new growth path in Europe. We took new renewable energy technologies as an example at test whether the contribution of SMEs and young firms is larger in this technology area compared to invention as measured by patenting. In order to focus on the most valuable patents we use patent applications at the European Patent Office which were also applied for patent production at the USPTO and the Japanese Patent Office ("triadic patent applications"). The analysis proceed in two steps: The paper looks first at trends in international patenting and compares triadic patent application in the field of energy with all triadic patent application by country of inventors. The idea is to highlight the role of EU and its member states in invention activity in a technology-field which is of special relevance for a new, sustainable growth path. In the second step we look at the contribution for SMEs and young firms to such a new growth path by a detail analyses of triadic patent application by German companies as the SMEs share to R&D is the smallest compared to all other EU member states as well as compared to OECD member states (except Japan). The focus on Germany is motivated for two reasons - to ease the analysis and to focus on the most extreme case of the firm-size R&D distribution which is observed in EU and OECD member states. The study employs the WIPO "Green Inventory" classification to identify energy-related patents via the international patent classification used by all patent offices to assign patents by technology and potential fields of application. This classification comprise as main technology classes alternative energy production, transportation, energy storage, waste management, agriculture/forestry, regulatory and design aspects, and nuclear power generation. The number of green inventory patents increased from 1991 to 2007 by a factor of 2.5 to 12.500 patent applications. The majority of this increase is observable in renewable energy product, storage of energy, design and management of energy systems, and waste management. Patents related to nuclear power account for 4% of green inventory patents and this share declined even more to 1% in 2007. Surprisingly, the increase of green inventory patent applications at the EPO more or less equals the increase in overall patent applications at the EPO. Hence, the share of green inventory patents in total patent application at EPO was constant and fluctuating always between 8-10% with not visible trend. Similarly, albeit the increase in the number of triadic patents is less impressive (only by a factor of 1.4) the structural features are the same. Overall, the importance of green patent activities does not greatly vary between countries or regions. In 2007, the share of green patent applications in all patent applications at the EPO lies between 7% and 12%. Interestingly, the new member states and southern Europe are at the upper end of the range (12% and 10%, respectively) - besides Japan (11%) and the US (10%). Green patents are slightly less important for Northern Europe and China (both 7%). Focusing on more valuable patent application ("triadic patent application"), green technologies become more important in Germany, Korea and China and lose importance in Southern Europe. The second step linked sustainable growth to the "entrepreneurial" economy by examining to which degree small and young firms are driving sustainable patenting. We find SMEs to be responsible for about 15% of all patent applications. This is the same for the WIPO Green Inventory classified "green" patents. Around half of patent applications of SMEs are made by young firms. About one half of all patent applications by SMEs are filed by micro firms. When narrowing down the analysis to triadic patents, we find the contribution of SMEs to decrease to about 9% of all patent applications which is probably caused by the larger costs of applying and maintaining triadic patents than EPO patents. The contribution to green patenting is even lower for triadic patents with only 6% of all green patents coming from SMEs. In the third step of the analysis, based on the link of German firm data to patent applications at the European Patent Office, we analyzed at the firm level whether small and young firms are more or less likely to file sustainable patents than other firms. The results show that large firms are significantly more likely to file both patents in general and green patents. We do find that, for micro, small and medium size firms, the negative effect on patenting compared to the reference category of a large firm is less strong for the younger firms. This effect exists both for the generation of patents in general and the generation of green patents. Therefore there does not seem to be a particular advantage for small or young firms in producing sustainable, green patents. Even more, SMEs and young firms seem to face larger obstacles to start inventing in green energy technologies than in other technology fields. In any case SMEs and young firms will probably not an important driver of new technologies like in some other fields of technology. Of course we have to admit that our same only covers international patent applications for the priority year 2007 or earlier. Hence, things might have changed in the meantime due to e.g. extended government support for innovation in green energy fields. However, this question can only be examined with future editions of the PATSTAT data which fully covers more recent years. In addition, we cannot rule out the SMEs and/or young firms are especially important for patents which are radical driver of technological change. To address this question several measurement issues need to be solved and/or existing measurement approaches need verification. However, this is beyond the limits of our study. What might be the contribution to the central questions of the wwwforEurope project? First of all, young and small firms might not able to drive the technology development towards a more sophisticated use of energy resources and renewable energies. Like in most other fields of technology the direction of technical change is determined by established large firms. Hence, under the current framework of innovation and industrial policies, the development of the "more entrepreneurial economy" will probably not form forerunners on the ways towards a new growth path. Secondly, private sector's production of invention activities became not stronger directed towards technologies which aim at production, storage, distribution, and management of new energy technologies compared to other fields of technology. Given the societal need for new energy technologies the paper speaks in favor of government regulation, invention and incentives to stimulate research, development, and implementation new energy technologies. However, we do not find arguments that such stimuli should favor SMEs or young firms.
In this literature review, measures of reducing the ammonia (NH3) emissions from pig production are described, with focus on systems that can be used under Swedish conditions. The entire production chain with feed, housing, manure storage and application on the field is described and taken into consideration. However, in order to limit the study, the production of crops for feed is not included. As compared to many other countries, emissions of NH3 in Swedish pig production are already low, due to low protein levels in the feed, housing systems with a small excretory area, and storage of slurry outside the building. Lowering the crude protein level from 14.5 % to 12.5 % would reduce NH3 emission by 20 % from the pig house. Including fiber in the feed, leads to a shift from nitrogen in the urine towards more nitrogen in the faeces. In combination with removing the manure daily from the pig house, this might give opportunities for reducing NH3 emissions. A reduction in NH3 emission of up to 50 % might be possible. However, using fiber leads to higher methane (CH4) emissions (from animal and housing), and therefore this should be combined with biogas production. More research is needed in this field. Adding acids or salts to the feed could reduce NH3 emission by up to 40 %, while also improving feed conversion efficiency. Of course, good practice when preparing the feed must be followed. By applying multi-phase feeding and feeding according to the sex of the animals, NH3 emissions could be reduced by 5-15 %. By reducing feed spillage, offering a good environment for the pigs and maintaining good pig health, nitrogen losses could also be reduced with about 5 – 15 %. The importance of having clean pens is also discussed in this literature survey. Swedish housing systems, having a relatively high percentage of solid flooring (with some bedding) and a small excretory area in the pen, provides an opportunity for reducing NH3 emissions from the housing system. However, one prerequisite for this is that the pigs keep the pens clean, and therefore the room temperature should not be too high. This means that during hot periods, the air has to be conditioned before entering the pig house, e.g., by taking in the air via channels under the building. Removing manure daily by means of scrapers (reduction up to 40 %) and cooling the manure under the slats (reduction up to 50 %) are measures that are already implemented in Swedish pig production. The effect of air temperature, air flow and ventilation system are also discussed. Cleaning the exhaust air using bio-filters (up to 65 % reduction), bio-scrubbers (up to 70 % reduction) and chemical scrubbers (up to 96 % reduction) is also an option. By only purifying the exhaust air from the manure channels, the costs for this method can be reduced substantially. The emissions of CH4 and nitrous oxide (N2O) from the housing system are also discussed. Removal of the manure under the slats appears to reduce CH4 emission from the building. The use of deep-litter bedding may in many cases result in high N2O emissions. More research is needed in this field. Treating the manure with sulphuric acid, in combination with aeration and re-circulation in the pig house, can reduce NH3 emissions by up to 70 %. Pumping slurry between different compartments in a pig house is not allowed according to the Swedish Welfare Legislation. Therefore it is not certain that the acidification of slurry, inside the pig house, can be applied in Sweden. Anaerobic treatment of biogas production, as another treatment of manure, may not reduce NH3 emissions when storing and spreading the manure, but it results in increasing the nitrogen availability for the crops. In that way nitrogen losses can be reduced since less nitrogen has to be spread per hectare. Besides, biogas production reduces odour problems as well as emissions of green house gas (GHG) by the production of energy and lower CH4 emissions. Aerobic treatment of manure, can reduce the emissions of NH3 and GHG. However, poorly controlled aeration processes can have the opposite effect. Storage of slurry in a tank having a cover lid has been pointed out in many investigations, to be the easiest and most effective way of reducing NH3 and CH4 emissions. The straw used for fattening pigs is mainly consumed by the pigs, and it is rare that a naturally stable crust will be developed on the slurry. However, within piglet production a crust on the slurry tank is often found. This crust can cause problems when the slurry tank is covered. Technical solutions have to be developed to solve this problem. On pig farms, the main crops are cereals, and the slurry is mainly applied either in the spring during tillage work, or band spread in the early summer on growing cereals. Incorporation of the slurry, e.g., by harrowing in the spring, effectively reduces the NH3 losses if it takes place as soon as possible after spreading, preferably directly or at least within 4 hours after spreading. Another possibility is to band spread the slurry onto the growing cereals because the canopy provides a microclimate which reduces the NH3 losses, as compared to spreading on a bare field. Late application during the vegetation period or spreading before the autumn sowing, often results in lower nitrogen utilization by the plants, and thereby higher risks of nitrogen leakage. Due to interactions between different sources on a farm, reduction in NH3 emission from the individual sections of the livestock production system cannot be simply added to give the net reduction in emission from the total system. Thus a whole farm system approach is needed for devising control strategies for reducing NH3 emission. Four scenarios were evaluated in this report. Scenario 1 consists of: Reduction of the crude protein in the feed from 14.5 % to 12.5 %, relatively simple technique inside the pig house to reduce NH3 emission, covering the slurry tank and new technique when spreading manure. Scenario 2 consists of: Using biproducts from industry (16.5 % crude protein instead of 14.5 %) and cleaning of exhausting air, covering the slurry tank and new technique when spreading manure. Scenario 3 comprises conditions similar to those of Scenario 1, including high dietary feed fiber content in combination with biogas production. Scenario 4 comprises conditions similar to those of Scenario 2, including high dietary feed fiber content and in combination with biogas production. Preliminary calculations indicate that the scenarios may reduce emissions by 47-68 %. It should be pointed out that the calculations are still very uncertain. The calculations show that Scenario 3 appears to be the most effective way of reducing NH3 emissions. So the combination of using low protein feed with high fiber content together with the production of biogas appears to be a promising method for future development. Even Scenario 1, which used only simple techniques, has a significant result: lowering the protein content affects the entire chain from feed to the field. From the literature review, it can be concluded that one should consider whole farm systems when trying to reduce NH3 emissions. Having a roof on the manure storage, using band spreading together with incorporation, e.g. harrowing, within a few hours after spreading, are the most important and easiest ways of reducing NH3losses. When discussing the method of animal keeping, feeding and housing, a low protein level in the feed has a positive effect along the entire production chain, and appears to be the most effective means of reducing NH3 emissions. Using more fiber or acids/salts in the feed will reduce the NH3 emission even more. When biproducts from industry are used in the pig feed, cleaning the exhausting air from the manure channel may be an option. More research is needed before recommendations can be given.

The parallel epidemics of childhood asthma and obesity over the past few decades have spurred research into obesity as a risk factor for asthma. However, little is known regarding the role of asthma in obesity incidence. We examined whether early-onset asthma and related phenotypes are associated with the risk of developing obesity in childhood.This study includes 21 130 children born from 1990 to 2008 in Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK. We followed non-obese children at 3-4 years of age for incident obesity up to 8 years of age. Physician-diagnosed asthma, wheezing and allergic rhinitis were assessed up to 3-4 years of age.Children with physician-diagnosed asthma had a higher risk for incident obesity than those without asthma (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) 1.66, 95% CI 1.18-2.33). Children with active asthma (wheeze in the last 12 months and physician-diagnosed asthma) exhibited a higher risk for obesity (aHR 1.98, 95% CI 1.31-3.00) than those without wheeze and asthma. While people in those cities comprised 1 per cent of those requiring help, their needs were no less important than the remaining 99 per cent, said Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Aairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. In Raqqa, where 100,000 people had returned since October when Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da'esh) had been forced out, conditions were not conducive for returns because of high levels of unexploded ordinances and improvised explosive device contamination. In addition, there were scant basic services, a lack of electricity and mobile communications and food insecurity. Describing other concerns, he said in Rukban some 50,000 people were in need of sustained humanitarian assistance. Those remaining in the town of Douma and other areas of eastern Ghouta required urgent assistance after years of deprivation, he said, adding that the humanitarian community had not yet been able to provide help. On 25 March, the United Nations had requested permission from the Government of Syria to deploy an interagency surge team to scale up the United Nations operational capacity, he said, adding that he could not overstate the importance of sustaining and scaling up the international response. Council members underscored the need for sustained aid deliveries, with some calling on all Member States to make substantial commitments at the upcoming Brussels pledging conference and to swiftly disburse pledges. Some delegates said mine clearing should be a priority to ensure safe returns of displaced persons, while many members urged parties to return to negotiations to nd a political solution to end the conict. Echoing a common call, China's representative appealed to all parties in Syria to comply with Security Council resolution 2401 (2018) by ceasing hostilities and coordinating with United Nations humanitarian eorts. Any unilateral action would violate the basic norms of international law while complicating a settlement of the Syrian issue, he said, urging all sides to refrain from moves that would further escalate the situation. The representative of the Russian Federation, noting that Raqqa's destruction had been due to a United States-led coalition ght against ISIL, criticized coalition members for their lack of reconstruction in that area. Civilians were regularly killed by landmines and no assessment of humanitarian needs had occurred until the Russian Federation had insisted on it. In addition, no practical steps had been taken to provide humanitarian assistance to the population of Rukban, which was located near an American airbase. Urging the Council and the humanitarian community to address the situation of those two cities, he said coalition members should outline how they themselves were implementing resolution 2401 (2018). Meanwhile, the United States delegate said that while the 75 members of the Global Coalition against Da'esh had targeted ISIL and liberated civilians, the Syrian Government had bombarded its own people. United Nations agencies were planning deliveries of humanitarian assistance and programmatic interventions to support the work of humanitarian agencies already active in those areas. In Rukban, some 50,000 people were in need of sustained humanitarian assistance, he continued, noting that there was a pressing need for better service provision and medical help. Humanitarian agencies were working closely with the United States, Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to facilitate deliveries. At the same time, those remaining in the town of Douma and other areas of eastern Ghouta, under control of the Government of Syria, required urgent assistance after years of deprivation. "A bloodbath was prevented," he said, adding that some 60,000 people had also been helped to return to their homes. Joint work was ongoing between the Russian military police and Syrian law enforcement ocials, including debris clearance, re-establishment of services and food deliveries. However, the international community's attention was also required, he said, calling for additional support from other Member States. In contrast, he said, Raqqa — which had been destroyed by United States-led coalition air strikes — had seen no reconstruction eorts. Events over recent days had revealed the hypocrisy of the "troika" — namely, the United States, United Kingdom and France, he said. By their acts of aggression, those countries and their supporters had taken sides in the Syrian conict. The Russian Federation was instead working with all sides, committing to implementing Council resolutions and supporting the parties in making progress in the Geneva talks, which must resume without preconditions and especially without demands for a regime change. Given current developments, it was hard to imagine that the Government of Syria would want to talk about the situation in its country with any members of the troika, who sought to declare its President a war criminal. BADER ABDULLAH N. M. ALMUNAYEKH (Kuwait) said resolution 2401 (2018) had addressed the humanitarian situation across Syria, demanding a pause in hostilities for 30 days to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance and allow for the evacuation of the sick and wounded. Voicing frustration that it had not yet been implemented, he reiterated the call on parties to the conict to allow the entry of weekly convoys and for an immediate end to all attacks against civilians, civilian infrastructure and medical facilities. Urging the Astana guarantors, in particular, to continue to support talks. Welcoming the Oce for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aairs preparations of plans for providing humanitarian assistance in Raqqa, he underscored the need to maintain sustained aid delivery to internally displaced persons camps in Rukban. OLOF ORRENIUS SKOOG (Sweden) said a greater eort must be made to ensure full and immediate implementation of resolution 2401 (2018) throughout Syria, with the Astana guarantors living up to their commitments. He called on the Syrian authorities to immediately grant facilitation letters for humanitarian convoys to Douma and to facilitate sustained United Nations access to camps housing internally displaced persons. Referring also the situations in Raqqa, Rukban, Idlib and Afrin, he said the humanitarian community was undertaking a Herculean task. However, the acute lack of funding for United Nations humanitarian operations in in Syria was deeply troubling, he said, calling on all Member States to make substantial commitments at the upcoming Brussels conference and to swiftly disburse pledges. KELLEY A. ECKELS-CURRIE (United States) said the 75 members of the Global Coalition against Da'esh that had fought the terrorist group in Iraq had continued its eradication campaign in Syria. While the coalition had targeted ISIL and liberated civilians, the Syrian Government had bombarded its own people. Noting that United Nations humanitarian convoys were welcome at any time in Raqqa and Rukban, the United States stood ready to support deliveries. Any delays stemmed from the Bashar al-Assad regime and its failure to allow convoys to move. The United States had already provided assistance, clearing 3,000 remnants of war and contributing 300,000 pounds of food. Pointing out that the Russian Federation had called the Council meeting as part of a messaging campaign to distract the international community from the atrocities committed by the Assad regime, she reiterated that in addition to a ceasere, the Council had called for unhindered access for humanitarian assistance. Yet, the regime had only allowed six convoys. Such calls by the Council needed to be implemented on the ground, but that required the Syrian Government's cooperation, she said, condemning the Russian Federation for its "cynical, thinly disguised diversions". FRANÇOIS DELATTRE (France) said the humanitarian situation in Syria screamed for attention, including those eeing safe areas, the bureaucracy preventing access to camps and conditions in Raqqa, where 90,000 people had returned. Humanitarian actors needed access to provide much-needed basic services and eorts must continue to remove landmines. For its part, France was helping with landmine clearance and had contributed €10 million for projects easing civilian returns to Raqqa. Concerning Rukban, he reiterated an urgent appeal to guarantee unimpeded humanitarian access. In that context, he supported the draft resolution that his country, United Kingdom and the United States had tabled on 14 April with a view to making progress on the humanitarian front, put a denite end to the Syrian chemical programme and begin conclusive political negotiations. That draft had sought areas of convergence to create conditions of real diplomatic progress in Syria and open the way for true negotiations. KAREN PIERCE (United Kingdom), regretting to note that some members had used the humanitarian situation to score political points, recalled that the United Kingdom had contributed a total of $3.5 billion to date for humanitarian assistance. Her Government continued to provide humanitarian support to Raqqa and surrounding areas and had aided with landmine clearance. Raising several concerns, she drew attention to the plight of displaced persons in Rukban and urged the regime to facilitate access to the United Nations and its partners to deliver aid to Douma and eastern Ghouta. She called on the Council to use recent events to get the political process back on track and was looking forward to the upcoming retreat in Sweden, which the Secretary-General would also attend. KANAT TUMYSH (Kazakhstan), welcoming the Oce for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aairs assessment mission to Raqqa in April, raised concerns that an estimated 100,000 people had returned to their homes in that city despite the wide presence of unexploded ordnances. Highlighting the signicant destruction of Raqqa and the precarious fate of the Rukban and Hadalat refugee camps, he warned the Council of a dangerous tendency for those camps to become havens for foreign mercenaries. Kazakhstan supported the Russian Federation's proposal to establish humanitarian corridors for withdrawing refugees from El Tanf and the Rukban camp, based on the example provided by Russian and Syrian military troops during the assault on Aleppo. Calling on all parties immediately suspend hostilities, implement resolution 2401 (2018) and report periodically on those eorts, he said the questions of boundaries and territories following Syria's prolonged war should be addressed in line with that country's Constitution in order to prevent the re‑emergence of extremist groups. PAWEL RADOMSKI (Poland), raising concerns about new internally displaced persons reaching Idlib, said the military conict in north-west Syria had further complicated the situation on the ground. Calling on the international community to address those situations, he said a needs assessment was urgently required to better understand the extremely precarious living conditions in Rukban's internally displaced persons camps. Such work must be part of a global eort to reach a negotiated political solution based on inclusive dialogue and in line with resolution 2254 (2015). LISE GREGOIRE VAN HAAREN (Netherlands) emphasized the urgent need for access to Douma for humanitarian convoys and for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) fact-nding mission. Calling for a humanitarian surge to address the urgent needs of internally displaced persons, she emphasized the situation of more than 180,000 people displaced by hostilities in Afrin, adding to the strain felt by host communities. Clearing improvised explosive devices was a priority in Raqqa, while in Rukban, both food and medical aid must reach the remaining displaced persons via the fastest and easiest route. Resolution 2401 (2018) must be implemented across Syria and eorts must succeed in ensuring humanitarian access and the protection of civilians, in line with international humanitarian law. MA ZHAOXU (China) appealed to all parties in Syria to comply with resolution 2401 (2018), cease hostilities and coordinate with United Nations humanitarian eorts. Equal attention must be paid to the humanitarian situation and to helping displaced persons to return to their homes. Emphasizing China's adherence to the peaceful settlement of disputes and its rejection of the use of force in international regulations, he said any action taken must comply with the United Nations Charter. Expressing regret that violence had continued unfettered in major cities, he said it was even more repugnant that schools, hospitals and residential areas were being targeted. Bolivia called on all stakeholders to spare no eort to implement resolution 2401 (2018) and for all parties to allow for unconditional humanitarian access. He went on to reiterate that the Syrian people should decide their political future through an inclusive process, free from external meddling. DAWIT YIRGA WOLDEGERIMA (Ethiopia) said the destruction of infrastructure and limited public services remained major challenges in Syrian cities. Demining eorts should be strengthened and aid must be delivered to all parts of Syria via safe and unhindered humanitarian access. Underscoring the importance of fully implementing resolution 2401 (2018), he said the Council should restore its unity through genuine and productive dialogue. GUSTAVO MEZA-CUADRA (Peru), Council President for April, speaking in his national capacity, welcomed eorts to clear "deadly booby-traps" laid by Da'esh in Raqqa and other areas. Recommendations from the Oce for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aairs mission to Raqqa would contribute to the safe return of displaced persons. While acknowledging the legitimate right of States to protect their borders, he said there should be unfettered access to Rukban, given the humanitarian situation there. It was vital that needs in Syria be met on a consistent basis, regardless of location, he said, adding that politicizing humanitarian assistance was unacceptable and a contravention of resolution 2401 (2018), which must be applied holistically throughout Syria. Background: Recent policy is marked by a shift towards enabling people with dementia to remain at home and in their neighbourhoods, yet little is known about the wider perspective of neighbourhood as an everyday place of connection, practice and meaning in the lives of people with experience of dementia. Aims: The aim of this thesis is twofold. The first aim is to explore the neighbourhood as an everyday place for people with experiences of dementia. The second aim is to explore neighbourhood as a place for practice. Methods and Designs: Five studies are included in the thesis with both quantitative and qualitative designs. Study I had a cross-sectional exploratory and descriptive design. A total cohort of 17, 405 people with a dementia diagnosis were identified and matched with data about home care services and housing, and were then associated with socio-demographic factors in three county councils: Östergötland, Stockholm and Västerbotten. Study II had a phenomenological design; 14 community-dwelling people diagnosed with dementia in the County of Östergötland participated using walking interviews. Study III had an inductive and exploratory qualitative design including 14 community-dwelling people living alone with dementia in England, Scotland and Sweden involving multiple data collection methods. Study IV had an inductive and explorative qualitative design that included 22 people with the lived, personal and professional experiences of dementia and used semi-structured individual and group interviews. Study V had an inductive and explorative qualitative design where the perspectives of 18 participants (registered and specialist nurses) were included using shadowing as the main method for data collection. Findings: In study I, 72% of the cohort was living in ordinary housing and 28% in special housing of the total of 17, 405 people with a dementia diagnosis. Overall, 52% of 17, 405 people with dementia in three county councils (Östergötland, Stockholm and Västerbotten) were living alone. Study II revealed that walking in the neighbourhood was an integral part of their day-to-day activities that helped them to manage life with dementia. Connection to nature by being outdoors was a restorative practice for people living with dementia. Neighbourhood was often described as a social context, although some participants living alone revealed that their social contacts were mainly staff working in municipal home care. In study III, participants across all three field sites channelled their efforts to stay connected to the neighbourhood into creating new ways of maintaining social networks and relationships. By participating in several activities (provided in the United Kingdom by the third-sector and charitable groups, and in Sweden, by the municipalities), bonds of friendship were created. However, the impact of stigma surrounding dementia was highlighted by the participants, which caused experiences of involuntary solitude or loneliness. Despite the impact of stigma, participants took control over their lives by searching for new daily social connections in the neighbourhood and were by no means passive in the face of the challenges in everyday life. In study IV, the participants discussed how dementia was stigmatized in the community. People living with dementia were often not being respected as active citizens with their own resources in the community. Being socially active in a group or in public spaces were strategies to maintain a social role in the community. Participants with different experiences of dementia wanted the day care centres and teams to be more centrally involved in person-centred care and health-promoting improvements. Finally, in study V, participants struggled with the commonly held view of their role and their workplace within the health care system, interpreting it as being invisible, as if placed in a black box. The tasks and responsibilities of the participants were shifting to assistant nurses, neighbours and family members according to the socio-economic level of the municipality. Nonetheless, the participants were clearly part of the neighbourhood. The findings of this thesis have been integrated into a combined thematic analysis based on the five studies to reach an overall representation of people's experiences of neighbourhood as an everyday place and a place for practice in the context of dementia. Slutligen, Studie V hade också en induktiv och beskrivande kvalitativ design där 18 deltagare (legitimerade sjuksköterskor och specialistsjuksköterskor) inkluderades skuggning som är den huvudsakliga metoden för datainsamlingen. Personerna med olika erfarenhet av demens framhöll också att vara socialt aktiv i en grupp eller i offentliga rum var strategier för att upprätthålla en social roll i samhället. Förutom betydelsen av det sociala livet påpekade personerna med olika erfarenheter av demens att de skulle önska att dagverksamheterna och demensteamen skulle utgå mer utifrån person-centrerad vård och hälsofrämjande förhållningssätt. Slutligen, i studie V observerades det hur legitimerade sjuksköterskor och specialistsjuksköterskor kämpade med den vanligt förekommande synen på deras profession och arbetsplatsen inom hälso-och sjukvården som gav sig uttryck som osynlig. Deras uppgifter och ansvar hade även förändrats och allt mer hade överlåtits till undersköterskor, grannar och familjemedlemmar och kommunernas socioekonomiska status hade betydelse. Legitimerade sjuksköterskor och specialistsjuksköterskorna var en självklar del av grannskapet. Ciljevi: Cilj je istražiti susjedstvo kao svakodnevno mjesto boravka za ljude koji žive od demencije, te kao drugo istražiti susjedstva kao mjesta gdje bi se pružala medicinska njega. Metode i dizajni: Ukupno pet studija uključeno je u rad sa kvantitativnim i kvalitativnim dizajnom. Studija I imala je istraživački i opisni dizajn. Populacija od 17. 405 ljudi sa dijagnozom demencije bila je identifikovana, te usklađena sa podacima o kućnoj njezi i mjestu prebivališta, a zatim povezana sa tri općine: Östergötland, Štokholm i Vasterboten. Studija II imala je fenomenološki dizajn gdje je 14 osoba koje žive sa demencijom u porodičnoj kuci učestovalo u Östergötlandu u intervju pri šetnji. Studija III imala je induktivni i istraživački kvalitativni dizajn koji je uključivao 14 ljudi iz porodičnog domaćinstva koji žive sami sa demencijom u Engleskoj, Škotskoj i Švedskoj, uključujući više metoda prikupljanja podataka. Kako bi održali svoje uloge u zajednici vrlo je bitno da ostanu društveno aktivni. Učesnici sa različitim iskustvom demencije izrazili su želju da se centri za svakodnevnu njegu i timovi više baziraju kao unapređenju njege i zdravlja, kao i da se akcenat stavi na osobu za demencijom. Na kraju, u studiji V medicinske sestre su se borile sa općeprihvaćenim stavom o njima i njihovoj ulozi, te njihovom radnom mjestu u sistemu zdravstvene zaštite, opisujući to kao nevidljivo. Zadaci i odgovornosti medicinskih sestara prebacivali su se na pomoćne sestre, komšije i članove porodica prema društveno-ekonomskom nivou opštine. Unatoč tome, medicinske sestre su očito bile dio susjedstva. Iskustva, odnosno pronalasci u ovoj tezi integrisani su u kombinovanu analizu prema pet tematski obrađenih studija, kako bi se dostigao sveobuhvatan prikaz iskustava u susjedstvu kao svakodnevnom mjestu, te mjestu zdravstvene podrške u kontekstu demencije. Iz ove analize pojavilo se pet glavnih tema (kao i tri podteme): (1) povezanost sa susjedstvom; (2) svakodnevne aktivnosti promovišu zdravlje i dobrobit; (3) mogućnosti za socijalne veze; (4) tretiranje kao aktivne građane; (5) susjedstvo je mjesto za medicinske prakse neprekidno traju. Analize pokazuju kako se susjedstvo ne opisuje samo kao prohodno, socijalno i građansko polje u kontekstu demencije, već kao i mjesto gdje medicinske prakse neprekidno traju (studije II, III, IV i V), jer većina ljudi s demencijom žive u običnom domaćinstvu (studija I). Zaključak: Teza predstavlja nove temelje i znanja, kako bi se lakše razumio pojam susjedstva kao svakodnevnog mjesta za život, kao i njege kroz nove objektive razumijevanja. Susjedstvo bi se moglo shvatiti kao mjesto spojeno vezama koje ljudi aktivno potražuju gdje se značenje mjesta spaja sa kretanjem tijela kroz svijet. To je također mjesto gdje je svakodnevno obezbjeđena njega za ljude koji žive sa demencijom, posebno za one koji žive sami. Background: Recent policy is marked by a shift towards enabling people with dementia to remain at home and in their neighbourhoods, yet little is known about the wider perspective of neighbourhood as an everyday place of connection, practice and meaning in the lives of people with experience of dementia. Aims: The aim of this thesis is twofold. The first aim is to explore the neighbourhood as an everyday place for people with experiences of dementia. The second aim is to explore neighbourhood as a place for practice. Methods and Designs: Five studies are included in the thesis with both quantitative and qualitative designs. Study I had a cross-sectional exploratory and descriptive design. A total cohort of 17, 405 people with a dementia diagnosis were identified and matched with data about home care services and housing, and were then associated with socio-demographic factors in three county councils: Östergötland, Stockholm and Västerbotten. Study II had a phenomenological design; 14 community-dwelling people diagnosed with dementia in the County of Östergötland participated using walking interviews. Study III had an inductive and exploratory qualitative design including 14 community-dwelling people living alone with dementia in England, Scotland and Sweden involving multiple data collection methods. Study IV had an inductive and explorative qualitative design that included 22 people with the lived, personal and professional experiences of dementia and used semi-structured individual and group interviews. Study V had an inductive and explorative qualitative design where the perspectives of 18 participants (registered and specialist nurses) were included using shadowing as the main method for data collection. Findings: In study I, 72% of the cohort was living in ordinary housing and 28% in special housing of the total of 17, 405 people with a dementia diagnosis. Overall, 52% of 17, 405 people with dementia in three county councils (Östergötland, Stockholm and Västerbotten) were living alone. Study II revealed that walking in the neighbourhood was an integral part of their day-to-day activities that helped them to manage life with dementia. Connection to nature by being outdoors was a restorative practice for people living with dementia. Neighbourhood was often described as a social context, although some participants living alone revealed that their social contacts were mainly staff working in municipal home care. Detta visar på behovet av att tänka om i praktiken vad det gäller omvårdnaden, där "omvårdnad i grannskapet" som en modell med ett livsvärldsperspektiv behövs i dialog med medborgarna. ; Pozadina: Nedavni trend demencije ogleda se u ovome da osobe koje žive sa demencijom ostanu u kući ili u susjedstvu, ali još uvijek nije poznato mnogo u široj perspektivi koju nude ta susjedstva kao svakodnevno mjesto povezivanja, medicinske njege, te samog značaja u životu onih koji žive sa demencijom. Ciljevi: Cilj je istražiti susjedstvo kao svakodnevno mjesto boravka za ljude koji žive od demencije, te kao drugo istražiti susjedstva kao mjesta gdje bi se pružala medicinska njega. Metode i dizajni: Ukupno pet studija uključeno je u rad sa kvantitativnim i kvalitativnim dizajnom. Studija I imala je istraživački i opisni dizajn. Populacija od 17. 405 ljudi sa dijagnozom demencije bila je identifikovana, te usklađena sa podacima o kućnoj njezi i mjestu prebivališta, a zatim povezana sa tri općine: Östergötland, Štokholm i Vasterboten. Studija II imala je fenomenološki dizajn gdje je 14 osoba koje žive sa demencijom u porodičnoj kuci učestovalo u Östergötlandu u intervju pri šetnji. Studija III imala je induktivni i istraživački kvalitativni dizajn koji je uključivao 14 ljudi iz porodičnog domaćinstva koji žive sami sa demencijom u Engleskoj, Škotskoj i Švedskoj, uključujući više metoda prikupljanja podataka. Studija IV imala je induktivni i istraživački kvalitativni dizajn koji je obuhvatio 22 osobe koje žive, ili imaju lično i profesionalno iskustvo sa demencijom, gdje su se koristili pojedinačni i grupni intervju. Studija V imala je induktivni i istraživački kvalitativni dizajn gdje je uljućeno ukupno 18 medicinskih sestara, a kao glavna metoda za prikupljanje podataka korištena je metoda praćenja i posmatranja. Završni rezultati: U studiji I, 72% od 17. 405 ljudi koji su imali demenciju živjeli su porodičnim kućama a 28% u starački domovima. Ukupno 52% od 17. 405 ljudi koji žive sa demencijom u tri općine su Östergötland, Štokholm i Vasterboten žive sami. Studija II otkrila je kako svakodnevna šetanja je sastavni dio njihovih aktivnosti koje su im pomogle u životu sa demencijom. Može se reći da je boravak na otvorenom, te povezivanje sa prirodom je vrlo praktično za ljude koji žive sa demencijom. Susjedstvo je često opisano kao socijalni kontekst, iako su neki učesnici u istraživanju koji žive sami otkrili kako je njihov jedini društveni kontakt bio sa uposlenicima kućne njege. U studiji III učesnici ispitivanja u Engleskoj, Škotskoj i Švedskoj su sve svoje napore da ostanu povezani sa susjedstvom kako bi stvorili nove načine koji bi pomogli stvaranje novih veza i odnosa. Učestvovanjem u nekoliko aktivnosti (koje su u Velikoj Britaniji omogućile dobrotvorne i slobodne organizacije, a u Švedskoj općine) stvorene su veze i prijateljstva. Međutim, utjecaj predrasuda povezanih s demencijom, što su i naglašavali sudionici, vodilo je kao iskustvu samoće i usamljenosti. Uprkos utjecaju predrasuda, učesnici su preuzeli kontrolunad svojim životima, te su tražili nove svakodnevne društvene veze u susjedstvu, ne pokazujući tako pasivnost prema svakodnevnim izazovima s kojima se susreću. U studiji IV učesnici su razgovarali o predrasudama o demenciji u zajednici. Ljudi koji žive sa demencijom često nisu uvaženi kao aktivni članovi koji mogu doprinijeti zajednici. Kako bi održali svoje uloge u zajednici vrlo je bitno da ostanu društveno aktivni. Učesnici sa različitim iskustvom demencije izrazili su želju da se centri za svakodnevnu njegu i timovi više baziraju kao unapređenju njege i zdravlja, kao i da se akcenat stavi na osobu za demencijom. Na kraju, u studiji V medicinske sestre su se borile sa općeprihvaćenim stavom o njima i njihovoj ulozi, te njihovom radnom mjestu u sistemu zdravstvene zaštite, opisujući to kao nevidljivo. Zadaci i odgovornosti medicinskih sestara prebacivali su se na pomoćne sestre, komšije i članove porodica prema društveno-ekonomskom nivou opštine. Unatoč tome, medicinske sestre su očito bile dio susjedstva. Iskustva, odnosno pronalasci u ovoj tezi integrisani su u kombinovanu analizu prema pet tematski obrađenih studija, kako bi se dostigao sveobuhvatan prikaz iskustava u susjedstvu kao svakodnevnom mjestu, te mjestu zdravstvene podrške u kontekstu demencije. Iz ove analize pojavilo se pet glavnih tema (kao i tri podteme): (1) povezanost sa susjedstvom; (2) svakodnevne aktivnosti promovišu zdravlje i dobrobit; (3) mogućnosti za socijalne veze; (4) tretiranje kao aktivne građane; (5) susjedstvo je mjesto za medicinske prakse neprekidno traju. Analize pokazuju kako se susjedstvo ne opisuje samo kao prohodno, socijalno i građansko polje u kontekstu demencije, već kao i mjesto gdje medicinske prakse neprekidno traju (studije II, III, IV i V), jer većina ljudi s demencijom žive u običnom domaćinstvu (studija I). Zaključak: Teza predstavlja nove temelje i znanja, kako bi se lakše razumio pojam susjedstva kao svakodnevnog mjesta za život, kao i njege kroz nove objektive razumijevanja. Susjedstvo bi se moglo shvatiti kao mjesto spojeno vezama koje ljudi aktivno potražuju gdje se značenje mjesta spaja sa kretanjem tijela kroz svijet. To je također mjesto gdje je svakodnevno obezbjeđena njega za ljude koji žive sa demencijom, posebno za one koji žive sami. A strong link between citizen preferences and public policy is one of the key goals and criteria of democratic governance. Yet, our knowledge about the extent to which public policies on specific issues are in line with citizen preferences in Europe is limited. This article reports on the first study of the link between public opinion and public policy that covers a large and diverse sample of concrete public policy issues in 31 European democracies. The findings demonstrate a strong positive relationship and a substantial degree of congruence between public opinion and the state of public policy. Also examined is whether political institutions, including electoral systems and the horizontal and vertical division of powers, influence the opinion‐policy link. The evidence for such effects is very limited, which suggests that the same institutions might affect policy representation in countervailing ways through different mechanisms.
