The purpose of this study is to enhance the understanding of person-environment fit and examine its effectiveness in predicting student performance and satisfaction in the management education field. Three person-environment fit measures were used: (a) values congruence (the congruence between a student's ideal value set and the existing value set in a classroom), (b) personality congruence (the fit between a student's and their professor's personalities), and (c) classroom environment congruence (the fit between a student's ideal classroom environment and their perceptions of the existing environment). Data were collected from 171 students in five different sections of management classes taught by 3 different instructors from state-funded educational institutions in the western United States. The results indicated that student-professor personality congruence was a significant predictor of student performance and that classroom environment congruence and values congruence were significant predictors of student satisfaction. Results and implications for classroom practice are discussed.

In this article the author questions the comparativist & American political academic assumption that that United States government acts autonomously from social demands to argue that the historical source of this assumption comes from an underestimation of the autonomy of nineteenth century American government. The author argues that voter participation & public opinion is is characterized as vulnerable to elite manipulation, releasing the state from societal control. Historical analysis of ninteenth-century American democratic culture, finance in the postbellum period, & the Ohio gubernatorial elections of 1875 & 1876 indicate that the high levels of popular participation could have been manufactured by political elites. The author concludes that the current ill-informed American electorate pliability can fuel state autonomy & creates elected officials that are no longer vulnerable to public opinion. Because of the recent expansion of the activities engaged in by both state and municipal governments,.the problem of legal hazards to which they are subject becomes increasingly important. One such hazard is estoppel. In general estoppel is the principle that one who wrongfully or negligently induces another to adversely change his position will be precluded from pleading the falsity of his acts or representations to his own advantage.

Corruption is a major drain on the effective use of resources for education and should be drastically curbed. Corruption in education is particularly damaging because it endangers a country's social, economic and political future. Corruption in education is more detrimental than corruption in other sectors because of its long-term effects. Corruption threatens equal access quantity and quality of education. Its consequences are particularly has for the poor who, without access to education or with no alternative but low-quality education, have a little chance to escape a life of poverty. Corruption is incompatible with one of the major aims in education – producing citizens that respect the law and human rights. If children come to believe that personal effort and merit do not count and that success comes through manipulation, favouritism and bribery, then the very foundations of society are shaken. The article argues that the problems posed by corruption in education have been neglected for too long. DOI:10.5901/mjss.2014.v5n23p1308
