(Autorenreferat)

The distributions of rivers, back swamps, delta, and ancient marine shore line of Southern Mesopotamia during Late Pleistocene – Holocene have been studied depending on the ostracoda and foraminifera assemblages as ecological indicators to determine the ecofacies and paleosalinities, which diagnose different depositional environments. The data are collected from 86 boreholes (including 12 deep boreholes), covering almost the entire Southern Mesopotamia.Rates of sedimentation are calculated and corrected for compaction in this study, relative to previously measured C14 dating by some authors, for the marine and non- marine (Ur Flood) deposits. Those rates of sedimentation found in this study are varies from a borehole to another, according to the environment of deposition; fluvial, back swamps, deltaic or marine environments. The base of the Ur Flood bed is considered as a marker for correlations between the studied boreholes, and to distinguish the successive depositional cycles basing on their faunal content of ostracoda and foraminifera.Accordingly, nine paleoecological maps for the Southern Mesopotamia are made to represent the age intervals between 22000 B.P. to 1000 B.P., showing the distribution of ancient rivers, back swamps, delta and ancient marine shore line.
[EN] Pentachlorophenol solutions in tap water were treated with a combined process of zero valent iron (ZVI) reduction followed by a photo-Fenton oxidation. Commercial steel wool was used as ZVI source, demonstrating its effectivity for pentachlorophenol de-chlorination at acidic pH values. The reductive pathway was monitored by the use of excitation emission matrices, showing the transformation of the initial compound into the fluorescent species 4-chlorophenol and phenol. While the use of tap water represented a drawback in photo-Fenton oxidative reactions (at least half kinetic constants values) an improvement was achieved when the reductive stage was applied in the studied pH range. The transformation of pentachlorophenol into phenol produced an increase in oxidative stage rate of about 8 times. This fact could be related to the treatment time and hydrogen peroxide consumption of the photo-Fenton process, enhancing the economic viability. Furthermore, the de-chlorination of the pentachlorophenol minimized the possibility of releasing toxic by-products in the photo-Fenton process. ; Authors want to acknowledge the financial support of Spanish Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (CTQ2015-69832-C4-4-R), European Union (645551-RISE-2014, MAT4TREAT). ; Santos-Juanes Jordá, L.; García-Ballesteros, S.; Vercher Pérez, RF.; Amat Payá, AM.; Arqués Sanz, A. This book analyses photographic and cinematographic representations of war and its memorialisation rituals in the period of late modernity from the perspectives of cultural sociology, philosophy, art theory and film studies. It reveals how the experience of war trauma takes root in everydayness and shows how artists try to question the 'normality' of the everyday, to actualise the memory of war trauma, to rethink the contrasting experiences of the time of war and everydayness, and to oppose the imposed historical narratives. The new representations are analysed by developing theories of war as a 'magic spectacle', also by using such concepts as spectres, triumph and trauma, collective social catastrophes, forensic architecture and others
BACKGROUND: As generalized pruritus can be a symptom of a systemic disease, iron deficiency may be the underlying internal cause of its symptoms. Because data on the relationship between iron deficiency and generalized chronic pruritus are limited, more research is needed to ensure proper diagnosis and management. AIMS: To evaluate the prevalence of iron deficiency in patients with generalized chronic pruritus in the southeast region of Rajasthan and to assess the correlation of serum ferritin with iron deficiency variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, analytical study was conducted among a total of 200 patients complaining of itching all across the body without any skin lesions for more than 6 weeks and enrolled in the outdoor and indoor Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology departments of the Government Medical College, Kota. The duration of the study experiment was 1 year from June 2018 to May 2019. RESULTS: Females (108; 54%) were more than males (92; 46%) with a ratio of 1.17:1. The mean age of the patients was 37.35 ± 13.56. S. ferritin was found to be below 15 g/L in 58 (29%) patients. Significant correlation was found between S. ferritin and hemoglobin, MCV, MCH, and MCHC, and the P value was 9. Similarly, a correlation was found between the VAS score and hemoglobin, MCV, MCH, and MCHC and a statistically significant P value was obtained. LIMITATIONS: The sample size was small in the study. The overall levels of iron and serum transferrin were not checked, keeping patients' compliance in mind. CONCLUSION: Although statistically significant results were found, limitations were also present in our study; so, further studies for proper diagnosis and management should be conducted in greater depth.

Iron ore mining in the Norrbotten region of Sweden began in the early years of the twentieth century as a commercially uncertain and even dangerous proposition. But even before it began to generate profits, public debate began over the appropriate role of the state and of private capital (including foreign investors). This included whether iron ore should be exported for profit or retained for future processing in Sweden—even though the technology and infrastructure for such domestic industry did not exist. Tracing the evolution of this debate in the Swedish news media through to the First World War, this paper argues that the revenue generated by exports became more attractive than the promise of future domestic industry because that revenue could underwrite pressing political objectives. Although domestic iron ore processing remained linked to visions of future industrial prosperity, uncertain visions of future prosperity lost appeal as the capacity for export revenues to generate prosperity in the present became more potent.

In view of the political debate on the future sustainability of pensions system in Austria and given the low participation of older worker in the labour market, in this paper we try to shed light on employment and retirement behaviour while a combination of reduction in pension benefits along with income support is provided. We find out that reforms characterized by moderately generous income support while working along with lower pension entitlement in early retirement yield higher social welfare compared to the current system. The labour supply response signals increase under the proposed reforms among middle-income males, in the age category 55-60, whereas these reforms seem to be ineffective for women. These findings emphasize the importance of introducing pension reforms complemented with tax-benefits policies such that the former remove the disincentives to retire earlier and the later enhance the employment of workers in preretirement age.
