This second edition expands upon what has become a widely cited work on the recast EU Regulation on Insolvency Proceedings. It incorporates important developments in the case law since the Regulation was recast in 2015, as well as other significant updates. As with the first edition, it provides a detailed article-by-article commentary on the Regulation, written by a group of expert scholars and practitioners from a range of European jurisdictions. Drawing on a rich body of CJEU and national case law, as well as scholarly developments, analysis of the Regulation is accompanied by a chapter explaining the background to the Regulation's enactment and recasting, identifying its key features, and examining the relationship between the Regulation and new European Restructuring Directive.
The global economic crisis destabilised the public debt of many countries. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the predictors of public debt in European Union countries divided into nonmember countries and members of the European Monetary Union in the period from 2001 to 2018. The aim is to discover their relationship with public debt and make recommendations for economic policy-makers. The empirical analysis was based on comparative research design, quantitative methodology and secondary data collection. It included 13 variables, with public debt being the dependent variable and the selected 12 economic indicators were treated as predictors. The analysis was based on a procedure for linear mixed models in the IBM SPSS. The basic finding was that only unemployment was statistically significant predictor of public debt in both groups of countries. Other predictors differed, and there were statistically significant differences in the magnitude of their impacts. Obtained results indicate that unemployment is one of the most important problems of all European Union countries. In addition, a major challenge for monetary and fiscal policy-makers will be profiling adequate tax, credit, and interest rate policies to reduce debt and accelerate economic growth.

The legitimacy of the European Union is a much studied and highly contested subject. Unlike other works, this book does not engage in another review of the shifts of public opinion and perception regarding the EU. Instead, it offers a different and innovative perspective by focusing on constructions of legitimacy in the European Commission. Starting from the premise that legitimacy is discursively constructed, the book engages in a fine-grained analysis of legitimacy discourses in the European Commission since the early 1970s. Embedded in a poststructuralist theoretical framework, Hegemonies of Legitimation also sheds light on the conditions that made radical shifts of legitimacy discourses possible, and illustrates how these discursive shifts paved the way for different types of legitimation policies. As such, the book maps and reconstructs the historically variable discursive landscape of competing articulations of what legitimacy signifies in the case of the EC/EU, and provides us with a detailed picture of the history of the Commission's struggle for legitimacy.

"This book investigates Euroscepticism from below, from both the Right and the Left, from political parties and social movements in five countries in Europe: two candidate-countries for accession to the EU - North Macedonia and Bosnia Herzegovina, and three member states: Italy, Poland and Slovenia. With a mixed methods approach, it combines interviews, focus groups and content analyses of (online and offline) organizational documents and manifestos in each of the countries, to analyse and unpack a variety of narratives on Europe and the European integration process, at both party and social movement levels. Offering a comparison of the narratives surrounding Europe and the conceptualisation of Euroscepticism, including the identification of several paths of opposition this volume will appeal to scholars of sociology and politics with interests in the European Union, political and social movements and framing theory"--

Green bonds are a new financial tool that has developed rapidly in the context of climate change risks. Their proceeds are used to finance only environmentally friendly projects. This paper aims to examine the determinant factors of the green bonds issue in the context of the European Union countries. Using linear regression, we explore the impact of environmental, social, governance, and macroeconomic indicators on the level of green bond issues in the period 2014–2019. The results reveal that rating, ESG index ; fiscal balance, inflation rate, and population have a significant impact and lead to a higher volume of green bond issuances. Our findings provide valuable insights into the development of the green bond market.
