Grounded in scholarship regarding post-object fandom, parasocial break-ups and parasocial grief, this research explored tweets regarding the death of a long-running, central character on the TV show Grey's Anatomy. A theory-driven thematic analysis revealed five major themes including: emotional expressions of grief, recovery and coping, advocating, not wanting to watch, and memorializing, each encompassing various subthemes. Fans expressed these responses with varying levels of intensity. The results suggest that there are fan responses to a parasocial break-up, especially a parasocial death, not suggested in prior studies that should be examined in future research. Furthermore, a parasocial break-up can be a powerful experience for fans even disrupting their everyday lives.

Cerebral tuberculoma of the brain are uncommon presentation of tuberculosis (1%). A 17-year female presented to the emergency with a Glasgow Coma Score of (eye-1, verbal-1 and motor-3), 5/15 bilateral fixed pupils with laborious breathing. The radiological features were suggestive of aintracerebral abscess/ glioma. Intraoperatively the brain was very tense and a large, vascular, mass was present that was excised completely. Her histopathology revealed features of tuberculoma and she was started on anti-tubercular treatment. She is discharged home with regular follow-up for the last 10 months.Cerebral tuberculoma although uncommon should be thought of in developing countries as differential of cystic enhancing lesions of the brain.Keywords: Abscess; central nervous system; glioma; tuberculoma; tuberculosis

This article reviews "The network of global corporate control" by Vitali et al. (2011) where the authors use modern network theory to analyze the centralization of global corporate control. Specifically, they calculate how a central core of transnational corporations (TNCs) have control over the total operating revenue of all transnational corporations. They find that out of 43,060 transnational corporations, 737 top shareholders control about 80 percent of the value of all TNCs. This control is centralized in the financial sector and extends to other sectors of the economy, including manufacturing and services. TNCs are more global than ever before. They are in virtually every country of the world and comprise a world capitalist system.

In this paper we introduce the results of the research about the impact of financial development on the decrease in deviation of the real inflation rate from the central bank's stated target inflation rate. Using methods of cluster analysis and panel procedures on a sample of the countries, which at the moment of writing the research officially stated to adhere to a policy of inflation targeting, we show that improving characteristics of financial development benefit the success of an inflation targeting regime (in terms of achieving its desired goal). It is also stated that for emerging economies the most vital channels of this mechanism are the increases in the efficiency and in the stability of financial markets and institutions.

AbstractThe concept of sustainable development has become dominant in the current socio‐economic debate at the global level. In particular, environmental issues have become increasingly central in the action of all organisations: private, public, and hybrid. Analysing a sample of Italian public utilities, we studied the level of disclosure regarding environmental topics via public Facebook pages. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of Web 2.0 on municipally owned public utilities' voluntary disclosure of environmental issues and stakeholder interest in this field. The findings show that the use of Facebook by public utilities to disclose environmental issues is still at an early stage. However, it is constantly growing, especially in the larger companies and in those with mixed public/private ownership.

Policing in the United States is not the same profession it was before Michael Brown's death on a street in Ferguson, Missouri, five years ago. Police use of lethal force has become central to the debate triggered by Ferguson. In this article, I review steps taken to implement policing reforms at local, state, and federal levels; note obstacles to reform; and speculate about which proposals advanced by authors in this volume might be implemented by policy-makers at different levels of government. I conclude by suggesting four areas where attention is needed if reform measures are going to be successfully institutionalized, and I comment on current bipartisan attention in Washington to criminal justice that offers the potential for federal action.

The article concerns the wartime history of Peru and examines both topdown and bottom-up practices of accounting for the internal conflict of 1980–2000, which were initiated in the background of the warfare. The aim of the article is to discuss the connections I observed between the phenomena referred to in the title: return migrations of the inhabitants of the central-southern province, their search for the victims of forced disappearances, as well as the exhumation challenges emerging since the beginning of the war. In other words, the text constitutes an attempt to contextualise the above-mentioned issues given competing versions of memory about political violence in the Andes, with particular focus on their top-down determinants in the Fujimorism era.

A central challenge of the Belfast–Good Friday Agreement is the radical contingency or uncertainty that underpins the current democratic legal order in Northern Ireland. It is a dimension of the Agreement that will come to the fore with growing demands for preparations and planning ahead of any referendum on the constitutional future of the region. Using a combination of perspectives from the literature on societal trauma and agonism, this article asks if we need to pay more attention to this affective dimension of the Belfast–Good Friday Agreement and the journey from outright antagonism to an agonism that envisages a society capable of addressing conflict while respecting the 'other's' entitlement to hold a radically different position.

Monitoring the conversion of native vegetation has challenged Brazilian government and scientists since the 1980s. In the case of the Amazonian forests, the Amazon Gross Deforestation Monitoring Project - PRODES has developed an effective methodology that provides consistent annual data on deforestation areas on a scale of 1:250,000, since 1988. In this article, we present some aspects of the evolution of this methodology, the key processes to produce accurate deforestation maps during the last 30 years and the new challenges that the Project would face. A central lesson is that no computational technique has, to date, been able to achieve the quality of deforestation maps produced by visual interpretation of satellite images and manual mapping.

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the primary financial arm of the European Union (EU) has become of central interest in the last ten years. The EIB has been increasingly solicited by the EU to bolster the European economy during the global crisis and support its recovery thereafter. Calls have recently been voiced for the EIB to contribute to the European Green Deal and the post-pandemic economic stimulus. This paper studies the EIB's role in the European economy through its business model in the period from 2009–2019. The paper's prime objective is to investigate what enabled the EIB to act in a countercyclical mode and how the EIB met the new economy needs in this turbulent environment.

This article discusses the dynamics of da'wah in social change. In the last two decades, humanitarian cases, social changes and political systems in very different orders of modern society have been responded by Muslim communities with very diverse attitudes. The stigma of radical Islam, extremism and jihadists is a central issue. Instead of improving that image, many demands have arisen. Among of the demands of issue that must be reviewed include our interactions with other parties (non-Muslims), our views, and our attitude towards them. This research uses maudhu'i's method. This paper is more a reflection in the process of internalization of the holy book which focused on surah al-Nahl [16]: 125 with the latest rhetoric of da'wah.

This United States journalism academic provides a review of prominent work since the 1970s on journalism theory and principles. She gives an historical treatment of news media coverage in race relations and criticises 'traditional' journalism—as a central point kicking into the corpse of 'objectivity' as a key value. This is late, with objectivity and a moral neutrality, as the adopted trait of journalists, already forsaken.

This paper develops a two-step inference procedure to test for a local one-for-one relation of contemporaneous jumps in high-frequency financial data corrupted by market microstructure noise. The first step develops a new bivariate Lee-Mykland jump test for pre-averaged, intra-day returns. If a jump is detected in at least one of the two assets, then the second step tests for equal jump sizes. We apply the test procedure to pairs of nominal and inflationindexed government bond yields at monetary policy announcements in the U.S., U.K., and Euro Area. The analysis provides new high-frequency evidence about the anchoring of inflation expectations and central banks' ability to push a measure of inflation expectations towards their inflation target.

Artículo de revista ; This article analyses, by region, the trade exposure of Spanish firms to the United Kingdom, based on individual information from the Balance of Payments and the Central Balance Sheet Data Office. Exposure to the UK economy shows some regional variability. Since 2016 there has been a fairly widespread downward trend of this exposure in terms both of nominal exports of goods to the United Kingdom and of the number of companies engaging in this activity. The vulnerability of Spanish export companies to Brexit is, in part, moderated in broad terms by their productivity levels and by the degree of geographical diversification of their exports, which are higher than at firms which trade with the main euro area partners.
