The effects of the Community right to migrate for healthcare services on patients have yet to be studied extensively. This paper uses a sociological institutionalist perspective to show how such migration might cause change in patients, especially their motivations, agency, self-understanding, identity and citizenship. This suggests the development of Euro-biocitizenship and patients as Euro-biocitizens, as well as providing a rejoinder to critiques of the right, and calls for new governance to address its effects.

Denn Unternehmer können einerseits zu Partnern zivilgesellschaftlicher Vereinigungen werden, indem sie im Sinne der "corporate citizenship" in das Sozialkapital einer Gesellschaft investieren. Andererseits können Unternehmerverbände auch als zivilgesellschaftliche Assoziationen in der spätsowjetischen "Bewegungsgesellschaft" betrachtet werden. Die Autorin beschreibt zunächst die Entstehung und Entwicklung von zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen in Russland seit den späten 1980er Jahren, um anschließend die Politik Putins gegenüber den Spitzenverbänden der russischen Wirtschaft als paradigmatisch für seinen Umgang mit der Zivilgesellschaft zu analysieren. Sie geht in diesem Zusammenhang auch auf die Strukturen der sektoralen Wirtschaftssteuerung, den Einfluss der Unternehmerverbände in der Ära des "oligarchischen Kapitalismus" und auf die Reorganisation der Zivilgesellschaft "von oben" ein. Governments pursuing a conventional deterrent approach towards undeclared work may thus eradicate precisely the entrepreneurship and active citizenship that they otherwise seek to nurture. A more nuanced approach to tackling this sphere is proposed.

This article discusses the policy and politics of dual nationality in Germany. It contrasts the policy reality, in which dual nationality is tolerated in a wide range of cases, with Germany's continued opposition in principle to this phenomenon. It then analyzes political, cultural and electoral factors to explain why this opposition persists despite these widespread exceptions. In conclusion, the article argues that by continuing formally to oppose dual nationalities, Germany in effect discourages naturalizations and thereby continues to operate a broadly exclusive citizenship.

In the general election of May, 2005, the word 'respect' denoted New Labour's latest attempt to remoralize UK society. This article argues that there is a contradiction between individual choice, as the basis for reforming public services, and the agenda for citizenship and cohesion. The latter requires services to provide a collective context for convivial and co-operative social relations. New Labour's third term will increasingly raise issues about the nature of human well-being in an affluent service economy.

Theories of social capital are popular because they claim to insulate society against both the coercion of states and the individualism of markets, as well as to better explain social prosperity and economic performance. But in fact laws, citizenship rights, compulsory associations and political institutions do a much better job of the former, while large-scale civic movements, like Poland's Solidarity, with demonstrable impacts on the configuration of political power, are the historic keys to democratic prosperity and social confidence.

In an era of increasing cultural diversity within nation-sates and the deterritorialization of cultures and peoples, the notion of a national citizenship signifying a single, homogenized culture shared by all citizens has become obsolete. A possible alternative is presented in which an uncoupling of nationality and culture would lead to open and equal communication between citizens and the development of transmigrants' identities as members of a transnational and multicultural global society who may have ties with two or more nation-states.

The electoral democracy created by the Sáenz Peña Law of 1912 opened
up dramatic new possibilities for working-class political identity. In the important
port city of Rosario, the Radical politician Ricardo Caballero crafted a political
discourse that combined an explicit defence of working-class interests with a
nostalgic depiction of the country's rural past. By linking class consciousness
with images drawn from the popular culture of the 'gauchesque,' Caballerismo
constructed a distinctively working-class version of Argentine nationalism and
citizenship.
