The authors argue that in order for Germany to do justice to its claim of outlawing lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS) internationally, the Federal Government should first define the term "human control", for example in a strategic document from the Federal Ministry of Defence. The aim should be to facilitate the regulation of the development and use of LAWS - at the international level - thus making the issue of military robotics politically manageable. The international framework for negotiating the regulation of LAWS is currently the United Nations Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons. A Common Position of the EU member states that demands human control - or, better still, suggests proposals for its design - could have a decisive influence on the negotiations. (author's abstract)

This book explores various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) regimes with regard to plant-variety protection and farmers' rights; traditional knowledge; geographical indications, genetically modified crops; and access to genetic resources within the broad ambit of Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), the Convention of Biological Diversity and other treaties/protocols. Enumerating the governance provisions for India and some of its neighboring countries, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand and Myanmar, the book synthesizes a policy agenda to drive sustainable development. Further, it assesses and interprets the status quo, and discusses key issues and implications. By comparing various governance frameworks in South Asian countries, it attempts to bridge policy issues concerning development, IPR and international studies.

Religious statements can be true or false, and are not merely arbitrary or personally meaningful. That is the core thesis of this work in pragmatist philosophy of religion. Other contemporary approaches are deficient, as they have problematic ways of understanding truth and experience. The argument in this study draws on Hilary Putnam's work in such fields as ethics, epistemology, philosophy of language and philosophy of mind. Influenced by Ludwig Wittgenstein, however, Putnam doesn't fully acknowledge how religious statements, similar to other statements, depend on an interaction of our language and the world. Management summary: In an investigation about how well managers' demand for business ethics training is met by market offers, four different categories of educational providers were identified – private academies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), universities and corporate universities. The diverse offers of these institutions are met by an increase in demand that is characterized by (1) a heightened interest in compliance-related ethical issues, (2) the wish for practical applicability of the content, (3) a diverse and disputed understanding of the term 'ethics', (4) the importance of the company's corporate culture, (5) three different target groups, namely future leaders, middle and top management and (6) a preference for three formats conveying business ethics education – webinars, seminars and workshops and conferences, conventions and similar events.

Children's and young people?s right to participate has been increasingly acknowledged and taken up internationally, as expressed in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Yet much of this has focused on collecting children?s voices, rather than achieving change, and has met its limits. This book provides an analysis of children?s participation in formal, collective and action research processes in six different international settings. It offers a deeper understanding of what helps and facilitates children's and young people?s participation through research, evaluation and decision-making to go beyond voice and effect change.
