This article examines the migration of Ecuadorian indigenous families to New York City in the context of the 2008 Financial Crisis and the tightening of immigration policies in the United States. Migration trajectories show increasingly risky travel conditions, and significant changes in labor market integration as well as settlement. The article shows that job insecurity and the social condition of illegality are mutually connected in the different stages of the migration trajectory and constitute a different experience from that of Ecuadorians who emigrated in previous decades.

In the article, the author analyses the community of Polish immigrants in Istanbul: as descendents of the refuges who settled near Istanbul in Adampol in 19th century, as well as modern immigrants living in the city. Having briefly described the former, the author focuses on the latter group, finally comparing the two communities, which allows torethink some immigration processes in modern Europe. Next, the integration processes and institutions which enable these processes are described. Finally, the author shows how artistic spaces, playing crucial role in sustaining Polishness, are created.

In September 2017, the Trump administration announced it was repealing the executive memorandum that provided Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Rescinding DACA revokes protections promised to hundreds of thousands of people brought to the United States as children who now reside in the United States without immigration status. This Note proposes that because both DACA's implementation and its repeal were constitutional, Congress must act to prevent those protected by the DACA program from having their previous trust in the U.S. government now used against them.

Thousands of mentally ill people residing legally in the United States have been deported after committing crimes as minor as shoplifting. Journalist Katya Cengel reports on Cambodians who fled the country's killing fields as children and who, after being repatriated, are struggling to make a life for themselves in their unfamiliar homelands. She introduces us to Khe Khoeun, a former refugee now living with relatives in Cambodia, and describes how those with mental health problems are singularly ill-equipped to navigate America's complicated immigration court system.

This paper compares the labour market policy responses to immigration in Norway, Switzerland and Canada, countries that are often referred to as different 'models' for the future relations of the UK with the EU. Across the three countries, it identifies several labour market policies that act as 'qualitative' controls of labour migration, in a way that is socially and economically more efficient that 'quantitative' controls in the form of work permits or quotas. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for the British case.

This article examines Lucas Pope's independent game Papers, Please as an instantiation of critical making within the discipline of the digital humanities. By confronting the player with moral decisions in their capacity as an immigration officer allowing or denying entry to immigrants within a totalitarian state, the game introduces an expressive form of game design in which conceptual practices are used to examine political and social realities. This type of critical media practice introduces a political ethic to the digital humanities that is arguably scarce within the discipline.

Intersectionality is a useful approach to understand the marginalization of ethnic minority (EM) sexual assault survivors. By using this approach, we are able to recognize the interplay and complexity between gender, class, and race that give rise to the inequality and oppression that experienced by EM women in Hong Kong. Findings of the study show that rape myths, gender-role perception, religion, kinship pressure, language barriers, citizenship, and immigration policy have constituted interlocking factors that shape the victim identity of EM sexual assault survivors.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the impacts of changes in migration flows-in particular, those resulting from possible migration policy changes after a UK exit ('Brexit') from the European Union (EU)-on the finances of the UK state pension system. We find that the aggregate effects of considered shocks to immigration associated with Brexit on the funding of UK state pensions are dwarfed by associated uncertainties, and by coincident cost increases due to population aging and (domestic) pension's policy.

Australia's political system is, broadly speaking, a well-functioning democracy that delivers a decent standard of living to most members of the community. Despite one of the largest immigration programs in the world, society has generally exhibited a high level of social cohesion and inclusion, with reasonable levels of equality of opportunity and an open labor market. In consequence, successive opinion polls have shown the Australian public to have some of the highest levels of democratic satisfaction and national pride among the established democracies.

Across the United States, local laws and federal immigration policy combine to produce a situation where massage parlor workers, who are predominately female, are left unprotected, which can result in exploitation through a trifecta of wage theft, deportation threat, and sexual harassment. Failing to recognize the differences in the types of massage parlors and masseuses, the current broad-brush legislative approach to regulation is inadequate and does not properly address worker conditions. New legislation is needed to provide legal protection to masseuses.
