The Global Compact (UNGC) represents the world's largest corporate citizenship initiative today. Created under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) to encourage companies around the world to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, the UNGC brings together businesses, UN agencies and labour groups in search of compromises. In a phone interview with the Journal's team, Ursula Wynhoven, General Counsel and Head of the UN Global Compact, shared her views on current issues and challenges of the field. Before joining the UN, she was engaged with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the development of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (MNEs). Ursula Wynhoven has also worked as a lawyer in governmental human rights agencies and private practices in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Reykjavik's School of Law in human rights and business.

This book introduces a study of ethics and values to develop a deeper understanding of markets, business, and economic life. The article aims to study the importance of CSR and the contribution of our industries towards the betterment and well being of the society. Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 has been referred to align industrial CSR activities with considered CSR activities from The Government of India. In the recent years, the banking industry has contributed a lot towards CSR. In this article, the author has taken Axis Bank foundation as a sample to study how exactly CSR activities are undertaken in the corporate, the accountability and reporting of CSR, and the utilisation of funds towards the progress of society. To study CSR activities of Axis Bank, CSR reports have been collected for a period of 3 years (2014-2015 to 2016-2017). The complete study is based on secondary data. The analysis shows that Axis Bank is succeeding in allocating the fund, identifying CSR activities and reporting the same through CSR audited report which is handled by the CSR committee.

Purpose– The purpose of this article is to investigate the basis of conveying a socially responsible image of organisations through a cause-related marketing (CaRM) approach.Design/methodology/approach– The research was conducted mainly through the evaluation and review of material on the subject area, i.e. secondary research.Findings– The findings of the research indicate that CaRM has the potential to improve an organisation's stance in the society and depict it as a socially responsible entity. One major finding of the research is that without an appropriate and relevant "strategic fit", time and effort invested in CaRM might prove futile.Research limitations/implications– The limited material on the subject of CaRM in general and its relationship with CSR in particular makes the task of preparing such a paper something of a challenge.Practical implications– The results show that the quality of an organisation's image and reputation in the eyes of its stakeholders can be influenced by its CSR-related initiatives. However, the firm should invest time and money to make this feasible.Social implications– The absence of a strategic fit between a firm and its cause could prove to be counter-productive in the societyvis-à-visits corporate image and reputation.Originality/value– This paper adds to previous CSR- and marketing-related research and publications and aims to provide an insight into the dynamics of CaRM.

Arts, literature or heritage –Culture– are influenced by business activities in a specific way. It is argued that the Corporate Cultural Responsibility –CCE– goes beyond patronage and sponsorship comprising the variety of business initiatives to meet the cultural demands of the company stakeholders and to address its impacts on Culture. The paper addresses the normative justification of CCE defending, on the one hand, that firms may alter the cultural life of a community not only through its business operations but also through actions of Corporate Social Responsibility. On the other hand, it is argued that companies have specific responsibilities regarding the promotion and protection of cultural goods since these goods are public or quasi-public goods, and because of the social and political role of companies. ; El arte, la literatura o el patrimonio —la Cultura— son afectados de manera específica por la actividad empresarial. La Responsabilidad Cultural Empresarial —RCE— se refiere así a las distintas acciones de RSE que las empresas realizan para responder a las demandas culturales de sus grupos de interés y a los impactos generados en la Cultura. Respecto de la justificación normativa de la RCE, se defiende el derecho de las empresas a intervenir en la vida cultural de la sociedad no sólo escogiendo la Cultura como su actividad de negocio sino también como parte de sus acciones de RSE. Por otro lado, se argumenta que las empresas tienen responsabilidades específicas en la promoción y protección de los bienes culturales dado su carácter público o cuasi-público, y dado el rol social y político de las propias empresas.

The article analyses the main tools for companies to achieve competitiveness, specifically social development and environmental safety, which determine the socio-ecological vector of activity and further development of companies. The transformation of human value orientations is accompanied by excessive accumulation of material goods, whose processes of manufacturing, exploitation and utilization significantly disturb the natural balance, worsen the ecological situation, and dramatically reduce the natural resources of the planet, which negatively affects the quality of food, drinking water and air and, as a result, the health and life expectancy in the modern world. The introduction of effective measures to stop and further prevent these trends has become one of the relevant vectors for the prospective development of an effective business environment in the developed countries of the world, which recognize the priority issues of environmental safety, environmental protection, and social security of basic human needs. Based on the results of the study, it can be stated that the achievement of the socio-ecological vector of the activity of industrial companies depends on the observance of the principles of a balanced social and environmental policy of corporate activities, which are defined by the authors as the major ones.

Die Verfasserin erläutert den Begriff des "transformismo" und betont dabei eine subjektfundierte Perspektive. Diese wird dann in der empirischen Analyse der Debatte um Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in der Europäischen Union verankert. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt vor allem auf dem politischen Prozess anstelle einer Diskussion des Begriffs CSR an sich. Am Beispiel der Kampagnen für CSR wird gezeigt, wie soziale Forderungen im Feld der Europapolitik in den neoliberalen "Konsens" aufgesogen werden können. Das Augenmerk liegt hier besonders auf den Widersprüchen hegemonialer Machtstrategien. Der Beitrag endet mit einer Betrachtung von Perspektiven für die Formulierung von Alternativen und der Bildung gegenhegemonialer Projekte im Bereich von CSR und darüber hinaus. (ICE2)
