Role-play scenarios are active learning techniques increasingly used to convey the more abstract concepts of international relations (IR) to students. This paper examines the value of two specific role-play exercises used in an introduction to international relations course on the topics of peacekeeping & foreign policy decision making. The value of such interactive exercises is laid out in a section examining what learning objectives can be achieved by using role-play scenarios, including promoting student interaction, input, curiosity, & creativity. The preparations necessary for conducting such an exercise are laid out, followed by a description of the exercises as they were conducted in the classroom. Finally, an assessment of the exercises provides useful feedback on the degree to which specific learning objectives were achieved, & how such exercises can be modified to be even more effective. 15 References. Why does a state change its foreign policy objectives and who is responsible for instigating such change? According to Hermann, four primary change agents are central to this process: leaders, bureaucracies, changes in domestic constituencies, and external shocks. This paper argues that the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) is a complementary policy process framework that can explain foreign policy change (FPC) and that accounts for all four of these primary change agents. Additionally, it is a broader framework of the policy process that facilitates a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing FPC than traditional FPC research. The ACF has the potential to broaden our understanding of FPC by emphasizing the intersection of the international system with domestic politics and focusing on a myriad of policy actors coordinating their advocacy efforts to influence FPC. To support this argument, the paper discusses how FPC can benefit from the ACF and reviews past applications. It proposes a research agenda using the ACF to study FPC and draws conclusions about future challenges and directions.

Addressing the historical turn in International Relations (IR), this article offers a critical appraisal of what I call the liberal renaissance by interrogating liberal discourse and its renderings of history. The main argument advanced is that whether implicitly or explicitly, liberal perspectives in IR are heir to two overlapping and often contradictory narratives of history that masquerade as universals when they can be shown to be particular (and indeed peculiar). The first narrative is animated by a juridico-philosophical discourse while the second is informed by a stadial-historical discourse. I suggest that both of these narratives contribute to a triumphant, universal and relatively pacific reading of the liberal project, the aim of which is to encourage -- through a variety of strategies, tactics and technologies -- liberal democratic market societies so that the world will one day be united by capitalist commerce and the institutions of polyarchical democracy. I conclude the article by considering some of the consequences of holding to these historical appreciations for contemporary IR and advocates of the liberal project. Adapted from the source document.

The aim of this article is to examine the relationship between the Europeanization process & the anti-globalization agenda in Europe. It is based on fieldwork, observations & interviews carried out in the framework of the European research project EUROPUB (2001-2004). The emergence of a European public space generates a whole series of questions for the anti-globalization movement: how can it integrate the European level into its usual issues? Should it gain leverage from this space of political opportunity to build gradually a broader transnational movement, or should it disregard & denounce it as a tool of neo-liberalism, like most other international organizations? Controversies that arose inside ATTAC France about the setting up of '100 % alternative globalization' lists for the European elections of June 2004 bring to light the many rifts dividing the antiglobalization movement, & perfectly illustrate the challenge European integration poses for anti-globalization activists, torn between the options of participating in the political game, acting as an opposition force, or standing back from the fray.
