Describes assessment activities by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences by department for the academic year 2011-2012 ; The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences summary of assessment report for the Office of Academic Assessment. Assessment activities in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences are conducted at the department level, facilitated by the College Assessment Coordinator. The college standard is that all departments are actively applying assessment data to improve their program???s learning outcomes. Eight out of the College's nine departments are doing so. The remaining department was directed to redesign their assessment program to be able to acquire meaningful data by Spring 2013. Departmental activities outlined include those of Anthropology, Geography, History, Pan African Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Urban Studies and Planning.

Cet article se propose de faire un état des lieux de la façon dont la question du vieillissement des immigrés est traitée par la littérature des sciences sociales en général, et de la sociologie en particulier. Il fait le constat de l'absence, dans l'abondante littérature en sociologie de l'immigration, de la thématique liée au vieillissement des immigrés. Il aura fallu attendre le début des années 1980 pour assister aux premières recherches portant sur les conditions d'hébergement, pour ensuite aborder la question délicate de l'accès aux soins et aux droits des vieux migrants.

When the executive committee of the Canadian Social Science Research Council met in Ottawa on September 6, 1957, concern regarding the future programme and policy of the Council led it to establish a special committee with Professor S. D. Clark as chairman to give consideration to the kind of support for research which Canadian social scientists appeared to need most. To aid the committee in its task, Professor Clark was asked to visit as many of the universities of Canada as possible. Visits were made to the universities of New Brunswick, Mount Allison, Dalhousie, Saint Mary's, Acadia, Saint Francis Xavier, Memorial, Laval, McGill, Montreal, Queen's, Ottawa, Carleton, McMaster, Western, Assumption, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, and to United College and Victoria College. In addition, interviews were arranged with two persons from each of the following institutions: Regina College, Brandon College, and Bishop's University. The report of the committee was presented to the Council at a special meeting on November 30. In view of the interest which the report aroused, Professor Clark was asked at the meeting to prepare for publication a paper setting forth some of the ideas and thoughts which had found expression in his report to the Council. The paper he prepared is now published as a special supplement to the Canadian Journal of Economics and Political Science, the costs of publication being met by a grant from the Canadian Social Science Research Council. To the University of Toronto which kindly released Professor Clark from his teaching duties during the Fall Term, 1957, and to Professor Clark himself, the Council is deeply indebted.

A description of the recommendations of a 1976 ad hoc committee for social sciences, set up by the European Science Foundation to develop strategies for a European social sciences community. Proposals were developed with regard to: (1) information-data networks & public opinion polls, (2) training-a network of postgraduate institutions & a system of European fellowships, (3) research-funds & support for cooperative, transnational research projects, & (4) general promotion-periodicals, prizes, fellowships for sabbaticals, & creation of a European Center for Policy Studies. 1 Figure. In order to maintain their dominant socio-economic and political positions, Brazilian elites developed and employed a range of strategies in order to maintain the basic inequality regime established during the colonial period. Still among the most unequal countries in the world by Gini Coefficient, this paper seeks to show how Brazilian elites maintained their position of relative dominance through superstructural and material transformations in Brazilian society in terms of their collectively finding solutions to four problems: the Ideology of Creole Revolution, Unmanaged Elite Competition, Race Relations, and Democracy. As the latter three remain serious problems for Brazilian elites, the way previous elites navigated these threats to their position and maintained the basic nature of the inequality regime through transformations in the material base and superstructure provide insights into how Bolsonaro and contemporary conservative elites may attempt to manage the social democratic forces of the PT.
