After narrating a story how, when the Islamic forces conquered Pakuan, the capital of the Sudanese Kingdom of Pajajaran (in West Java), its ruler, Prabu Siliwangi, became a "hiang" (ancestral spirit of god), the author examines this story, a myth, about the transition from Vaismava (Hindu) hegemony to Muslim rule in Western Java. He points out how mythical and historical persons and events tend to merge into each other in this story. (DÜI-Sen)
