The past few decades have seen an increase of sport mega events (SMEs) held outside the Global North. This tendency has been accompanied by a growing public expenditure in these events. This paper employs selected Global South SMEs to discuss this trend. By critically analysing public documents, biddings and reports, the study traces comparisons between 21st-century Global South and Global North SMEs expenditures, in the revenue of franchise owners (FIFA and the International Olympic Committee), in construction costs within the budgets and in the costs related to security. This comprehensive and intertwined investigation shows the need for new analytical tools – such as the Renewed Policy of Sport Mega Events Allocation, a concept developed here - to better capture the central questions posed by the challenges of 'SMEs going South'.

This article is an approach to the debate on biofuels, which involves various corners of observation: the political, economic and environmental design, about energy security. Thus, part of the definition of energy security, to outline the potential of this type with which the South American region, reaching then that means today alo geopolitics of oil and gas, to conclude on the need for a new approach to the issue and a new way of being taken over by the states. ; El presente artículo es una aproximación al debate sobre los biocombustibles, que involucra diferentes aristas de observación: el factor político, económico y ambiental, para entrelazarlos alrededor de la seguridad energética. Así, parte de la definición de seguridad energética, para esbozar los potenciales de este tipo con que cuenta la región suramericana, llegando entonces alo que significa hoy la geopolítica del petróleo y del gas, para concluir sobre la necesidad de un nuevo abordaje del tema y una nueva forma de ser asumida por los estados.

This paper focuses on assessing a policy for reallocation of Colorado River water for major stakeholders in the state of California, to set a standard for sustainable long-term public and environmental use. We address the policy of allocating scarce water resources to competing stakeholders of different sectors in the Salton Sea region under over-committed water rights agreement. We determine the value of water applied to the agricultural, urban and tourist sectors to estimate the regional welfare under different allocation frameworks. We use two models for allocation: one involving a social planner approach that maximizes regional welfare, the second focusing on the bankruptcy rules of proportional deficit (cutback), and constrained equal award. We find the proportional cutback framework to be less conducive to regional welfare, although it presents a more politically feasible and robust option.

Renewable energy has become a focus in the energy sector driving the fight towards smart climate economies on a global scale. Despite the successes chalked in this area in the European Union (EU), many challenges were faced and strategies have been devised to overcome them. This study was carried out to understand the dynamics of the renewable energy sector between 2005 and 2017 and how outcomes influenced strategic changes towards future targets. It also throws light on the effects of the renewable energy sector on fossil fuel market in the EU and how the future looks like for all stakeholders especially in the developing regions of the world. This study is relevant as a quick guide to understanding the major events surrounding renewable energy development, deployment and uptake in the EU. Recommendations based on lessons from the EU scenario are made for future consideration, especially for developing countries.
