The most common manipulation methods are considered. It is shown how with the help of language manipulation means, and first of all, metaphor it becomes possible to create a politician's image imposing by mass-media.

The paper addresses the problem of the influence of rumors about the royal treason and speech P.N. Milyukova November 1, 1916 on the formation of negative public opinion against the rulers. Based on the analysis of various sources has concluded that were distributed during the First World War, rumors of royal treachery, as part of a «political pornography», and speech Milyukova, along with other objective and subjective factors played a fatal role in the desecration of the royal power and the fall of the Russian monarchy.

In 1927, French author André Maurois published The Next Chapter: The War against the Moon, a "fantasy on the coming power of the press." Unevaluated heretofore by journalism historians, War against the Moon reflects post-World War I concerns regarding propaganda, the malleability of public opinion, media consolidation, the power of press barons, and the drift of news toward sensationalism.

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, public opinion in East Germany is dominated by a deep hostility towards free markets and an uncritical attitude towards state intervention. This article argues that the mistakes that have been made in the economic transformation of East Germany continue to have an effect to this day. Supporters of the free economy failed to explain why the grievances people faced were not caused by allegedly 'unbridled' markets, but by false policies. Hopefully, a future reunified Korea will avoid repeating these mistakes.

While the study of Black politics in the American context has not been a top priority in political science, it is indisputable that this topic in general is more likely to be discussed in the discipline's journals in recent decades than in the more distant past. What accounts for this noticeable increase in prominence? How did the study of Black politics move from total obscurity to occupying a more significant (although still relatively marginalized) position within mainstream political science? To answer these questions, we draw a parallel between politics and political science. Specifically, we posit that the increased focus on African American politics is due to Black agency in the form of social movement activity, which reached its zenith during the civil rights movement. Before the civil rights movement, we note as numerous others have, that the racially conservative views of American society in the nineteenth century resulted in Black politics being an understudied area. We argue, however, that as social movement activity increased the salience of racial issues in America, so too did it raise the importance of race for political scientists.

Phyllis Bennis offers remarks on the state of democracy in the Middle East, US efforts to weaken the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and peace movement efforts. She begins by denying that George Bush's invasion of Iraq has played any role in opposition movements in the Middle East, arguing that they are long-standing. Regardless of the Iraq war, the usual roadblocks to democracy exist, ie, US-backed repressive regimes. Bennis argues that to counter the US imperialist drive, US public opinion must be mobilized against the government's policies.

Results from consumer surveys reveal some basic conclusions about consumer attitudes toward agricultural biotechnology. First, consumers do not agree about whether biotech foods are good or bad. Second, a small group of people strongly opposes them. Third, the majority of consumers are uninformed about the technology and how food is produced. Relatively small but vocal anti-biotechnology activist groups are successful at influencing public opinion because of consumers' lack of knowledge, creating a role for universities and government agencies to provide clear, objective and accessible information.

Across the developing world, many governments have implemented political reforms - heavily promoted by international donors - designed to transfer greater power to subnational levels of government and to provide a more substantial policymaking and oversight role to citizens. Based on an analysis of two large national public-opinion surveys from Bolivia, a country that has recently implemented one of the most comprehensive decentralization reforms yet attempted in Latin America, the authors analyze the role decentralized local institutions are playing in shaping citizen attitudes toward their political system. The article discusses, through conceptual elaboration and empirical investigation, the interplay between the perception of smallness and the concept of national identity in the case of Slovenia's integration into the European Union. Unlike the prevailing literature on Slovenia, the authors do not take Slovenia's smallness for granted. They argue that, in the particular case of Slovenian identity-building, smallness as an independent variable does not feature frequently at all.
