By studying the factors underlying differences in trade performance across European economies, this paper derives six different 'trade models' for 22 EU-countries and explores their developmental and distributional dynamics. We first introduce a typology of trade models by clustering countries based on four key dimensions of trade performance: endowments, technological specialization, labour market characteristics and regulatory requirements. The resulting clusters comprise countries that base their export success on similar trade models. Our results indicate the existence of six different trade models: the 'primary goods model' (Latvia, Estonia), the "finance model" (Luxembourg), the "flexible labour market model" (UK), the "periphery model" (Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France), the 'industrial workbench model' (Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic), and the 'high-tech model' (Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Finland, Germany and Austria). Subsequently, we comparatively analyse the economic development and trends in inequality across these trade models. We observe a shrinking wage share and increasing personal income inequality in most of the trade models. The "high-tech model" is an exceptional case, being characterised by a relatively stable economic development and an institutional setting that managed to counteract rising inequality.

The purpose of the research: to analyze the main tendencies of the tax revenue and social contributions in EU countries, to study the hypothesis concerning convergence of the annual growth rates of the total tax revenue (including social contributions) to the GDP in European Union countries during the last decade and to build the predicted values for the total tax revenue (including social contributions) as GDP percentage in EU countries. The research was conducted based on the time serious analysis) and forecasting method to predict data values of the total revenue to the GDP. The analysis presented in the research has shown that tax revenues in the main tax categories displayed a corresponding pattern, with a differing fiscal lag for direct taxes, indirect taxes and social contributions. Correlation analysis has shown that many countries of EU essentially correlate ratio of the total tax revenues to the GDP. Using the presented models for the time series of the total revenue to the GDP in Eiropenean Union counties, the predicted values were obtained. The research has shown that some countries have common characters of the total revenue, and some gruop of countries has varies. Regardless of the declaration of the common economic policy in EU, as well as levy system in EU, the research has noticed some differences in the total revenues concerning the GDP trends. The impact of possible convergence in tax burden policy in EU countries explains these differences. In order to harmonize tax policy and to increase the fiscal role of taxation in the EU countries, such measures are proposed: application of unified procedures and conditions of administration of taxes and other budget revenues; differentiation of tax rates and establishment of the upper limit of their size; introduction of a unified tax base; differentiation of objects of taxation with the purpose of increase of tax revenues to the budget and avoiding increase of tax burden for population and others.

"This title was first published in 2002: When a developer wants to realize a housing scheme, what can the local planning authority do to assure that the resulting residential environment is of a high quality? This book explores the question through a cross-national comparison of housing development processes in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany and France. It analyzes how decisions about the residential environment are made in different situations, and by whom. By applying this analysis to housing development processes in different countries, the book paints a picture of how public policy and market mechanisms together influence the development of housing. From this, conclusions are drawn about how local planning authorities can achieve their objectives concerning the quality of housing areas."--Provided by publisher.

"This book sheds an innovating light on a topic of major scientific as well as practical interest that has seldom been dealt with in a comprehensive way: the relations between EU and non-EU countries and nationals, as far as social security is concerned. These are dealt with in a number of contributions by eminent international experts. First, the internal co-ordination of the European Union in relation with third country nationals is analysed. The ways the social security systems of the EU Member States are being co-ordinated with those of the Mediterranean emigration countries are examined in a second contribution. The EU-EFTA social security arrangements are explored in a third one. An overview of the complex landscape of the existing bilateral and multilateral social security instruments binding EU states and non-EU states is given in a next one. A fifth contribution deals with the European and international law applicable to the social security of illegal foreign workers. The contributions were presented at a conference held on 2 April 2009 in Leuven, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Master of European Social Security."--Publisher's description

Google Trends (GT) searches trends of specific queries in Google and reflects the real-life epidemiology of allergic rhinitis. We compared Google Trends terms related to allergy and rhinitis in all European Union countries, Norway and Switzerland from 1 January 2011 to 20 December 2016. The aim was to assess whether the same terms could be used to report the seasonal variations of allergic diseases. Using the Google Trend 5-year graph, an annual and clear seasonality of queries was found in all countries apart from Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Malta. Different terms were found to demonstrate seasonality depending on the country - namely 'hay fever', 'allergy' and 'pollen' - showing cultural differences. A single set of terms cannot be used across all European countries, but allergy seasonality can be compared across Europe providing the above three terms are used. Using longitudinal data in different countries and multiple terms, we identified an awareness-related spike of searches (December 2016).

First published in 2000, this volume examines the role of industry representation in the EU in the case of the air transport industry. Air transport has contributed to areas including member state interdependence, national defence in foreign policy considerations and national identity in terms of flag carrier' airlines. Dinos Kyrou looks at specific case studies concerning aspects of integration of the air transport sector within the European Union. These case studies - an examination of a European Commission Proposal for a Council Directive and the attempt by the Commission to formulate a Proposal for a Council Regulation - are stages in the process of policy formulation which are aimed at enhancing the liberalisation which was completed de jure in 1992. In both cases, the increasing prominence of the Competition Directorate of the European Commission (DGIV) has been evident. Kyrou's question is whether this reflects a restoration or a creation of pride and self.
This work answers a number of central questions in the ongoing scholarly and judicial debate on conflicts of human rights. Throughout this text, contributors provide both theoretical and practical answers by debating the very existence of human rights clashes as well as their resolution
