Western Sahara: no alternative to armed struggle
This book deals with the liberation struggle that has been going on in Western Sahara for almost the last two decades. The book, apart from a brief description of the land and the people, covers important aspects of the struggle such as the role of the colonial power Spain; the attitude of Morocco and Mauritania which had divided the territory of Western Sahara between themselves; the legal position of the parties involved; the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice and its implications for the resolution of the conflict; the report of the UN Visiting Mission which made an assessment of the wishes of the people of the territory; the rise of the Saharawi nationalism; the founding of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and its recognition by 73 states; the efforts made by the OAU for the peaceful resolution of the conflict; the joint efforts of the OAU and the UN to hold referendum in the territory; and the attitude of the Western Powers.
