Wide-ranging reforms linked to Georgia's EU aspirations have strengthened its economy and improved living standards. Nevertheless, further reforms are still needed and the Covid-19 pandemic has had a big impact on the hospitality sector, which has been a key driving force behind the country's strong growth in recent years. To continue its economic convergence with the EU, Georgia needs to strengthen the conditions for its private sector to thrive. This report aims to identify the key challenges and opportunities for promoting private sector development and investment in Georgia. Written and researched together with the EBRD, it reviews the political and economic environment and then digs deeper into issues of public and private governance, human capital formation, gender inequalities and access to finance, particularly for SMEs. The report also looks at Georgia's external competitiveness and its infrastructure needs, with a particular focus on the energy sector in the context of climate change.

At the crossroad of Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, Morocco is a key partner of our institutions. Morocco is rich in history and tradition, economic and human resources. The emergence of a dynamic and broad-based private sector can become a powerful driver of job creation, social inclusion and economic resilience. This is all the more important in the wake of an unprecedented crisis that has hit the world economy with no exceptions. In 2020, the AfDB, EBRD and EIB together provided more than MAD 18.6 billion (of which more than MAD 4 billion for the AfDB, MAD 7.9 billion for the EBRD, and MAD 6.7 billion for the EIB) in financing for development in Morocco. This report has been jointly prepared by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

This report provides the results of the assessment of the Public Procurement system of the Republic of Kazakhstan using the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS)1 and its various steps, including the validation process. Kazakhstan has a dual public procurement system, in which there are separate systems for a) the government procurement conducted by the general public administration and b) procurement conducted by Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna, which accounts for the majority of public procurement spending. This MAPS assessment covers both. Due to the nature of the system, this MAPS assessment has to integrated parts and assessments of a) the government procurement system and b) of Samruk-Kazyna's procurement system. This assessment report identifies key findings, lays out the strengths of the analyzed procurement systems and the remaining challenges, and provides a series of recommendations to address those challenges and allow for future improvement.

Recent events have drawn the world's attention to a crisis that has been building up for a long time—forced displacement. Beside five million Palestinians, over half of the refugees worldwide originate from Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia – with Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Myanmar, Iraq, and Eritrea also accounting for large numbers. This joint paper aims to define a framework for collective action for Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in response to the forced displacement crisis, within the context of the One Humanity agenda issued by the United Nations Secretary General in February 2016. The paper outlines an agenda for MDBs to further strengthen their contributions, complementing humanitarian, diplomatic and peacekeeping efforts in specific areas where stronger synergies are desirable and possible. This paper was jointly coordinated by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the World Bank Group (WBG) and prepared by MDB staff. The paper has three main sections focusing on MDBs' strategic agenda as they attempt to mitigate and or respond to the crisis (Section B); operational implications of this response in terms of financial instrument, organizational challenges (Section C); and, finally a framework for collective action (Section D). Annexes I to III provide additional definitions and numbers.
