Benjamin Franklin is one of the best known and most widely admired figures in American history. His wit and charm make him endearing; his practical intelligence and commitment to middle-class virtues like thrift and industry make him admirable. Indeed to many he is 'the first American'. Ironically, this identification of Franklin with American popular culture diminishes the breadth and depth of his contributions to modern political thought. FRANKLIN, BENJAMIN CROMWELL, ADS, Galveston, May 25, 1848. Signed as attorney for defendant in the case of Levi Jones vs. Edward Hall. Four part petition to dissolve an injunction. Franklin who fought at San Jacinto was the first District Judge in the history of Texas. He was a member of the Supreme Court of the Republic and a prominent legislator in the Congress. The Jones vs. Hall case was one of the most celebrated land trials in legal history. Franklin County was named in his honor. 2pp.
