Collective self-defence can be defined as the use of military force by one or more states to aid another state that is an innocent victim of armed attack. However, it is a legal justification that is open to abuse and its exercise risks escalating conflict. Recent years have seen an unprecedented increase in the number of collective self-defence claims. It has been the main basis for US-led action in Syria (2014-) and was advanced by Russia in relation to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine (2022-). Yet there still has been little analysis of collective self-defence in international law. This book crucially progresses the debate on various fundamental and under-explored questions about the conceptual nature of collective self-defence and the requirements for its operation. Green provides the most detailed and extensive account of collective self-defence to date, at a time when it is being invoked more than ever before.

Social Justice Case Studies: Interdisciplinary and Non-Traditional Interdisciplinary Approaches provides individuals interested in social justice the ability to discuss and engage in interdisciplinary and non-traditional interdisciplinary team processes. Using case studies that address a range of social justice issues, Dr. Cheryl Green explores the roles of interdisciplinary team members and how they can positively or negatively impact clients' outcomes. Chapters discuss approaches to management of complex client cases, as well as ethical dilemmas, facilitation of family meetings, discharge planning, cultural consideration, and burnout prevention. Dr. Green considers case studies involving intimate partner violence between a same-sex couple, a college student's experience of Espiritismo, counselling and support for women facing unplanned pregnancies, support for a transgender client undergoing familial conflict, and the recognition of "fright" in a male of Caribbean descent experiencing depression and anxiety. Important, timely, and topical, Social Justice Case Studies: Interdisciplinary and Non-Traditional Interdisciplinary Approaches is an accessible read for those interested in challenging the issues that impact social justice across a variety of settings.

At the peak of the Cold War in the 1950s the Soviet Union possessed some 12,000 aircraft, making it the largest air force of all the protagonists. By the 1990s this had declined to around 8,000, the reduction largely reflecting the increase in aircraft capability. As well as fighters and bombers, the Soviet inventory included trainers, transports, seaplanes, electronic warfare and ground attack aircraft, as well as an impressive helicopter fleet, notably the Mi-24 Hind' gunship and the massive Homer transport. The Tu-4 Bull' was the first Russian nuclear-capable bomber, a copy of the US B-29, which was followed by their range of jet bombers, the Il-28 Beagle', Tu-16 Badger' and M-4 Bison'. The prop driven Tu-20 Bear' and its successors including the Tu-22 Backfire' and finally the Tu-160 Backfire', were all formidable. The jet-engined MiG-15 fighter entered service in 1948 and proved itself during the Korean War. The MiG-17, MiG-19 and MiG-21 followed . Ground-attack aircraft included the Su-7 Fitter' and M-23 Flogger'. The 1970s saw the MiG-25 Foxbat' interceptor, followed by the MiG-29 Fulcrum' and Su-27 Flanker', coming into service. All these aircraft and many more are authoritatively described and vividly illustrated in this comprehensive work

"Industrialization and Assimilation is among the first books to focus on the process of ethnic identity change in a broad context. Green's evidence causally explains how and why ethnicity changes across time, showing that, by altering the basis of economic production from land to labor and removing people from the "idiocy of rural life," industrialization is a powerful agent for making societies more ethnically homogenous. More specifically, the author argues that industrialization lowers the relative value of rural land, leading people to identify less with narrow rural identities in favor of broader identities that can aid them navigate the formal urban economy. Using case studies ranging from mid-20th century Turkey to contemporary Botswana, Somalia, and Uganda, as well as examples of Native Americans in the United States and the Māori in New Zealand, both quantitative and qualitative methods are used to establish the relationship between industrialization and ethnic homogenization"--
Ben Green investigates the phenomenon of peak music experiences from a social and cultural perspective, including discussions on it as sources of inspiration; as a core motivation for ongoing musical and social activity; the significance of live music experiences; and the key role of peak music experiences in defining music scenes
Jurisprudence navigates the philosophy of law, including how morality affects and is affected by legal systems. This interplay begs complex questions such as: Should the law not only enforce morality but also improve it? Do subjects have a duty to obey the law and do officials have a duty to govern? 'The Germ of Justice' discusses these and more. Within these essays, Professor Leslie Green examines three clusters of problems in general jurisprudence: the nature of law, the relations between law and morality, and the demands that law makes of its officers and its subjects. It asks what jurisprudence can learn from the social sciences, how it is related to the humanities, how it might make progress, and why it is of value.
