Pivotal Issues of Democratic Governance: A Literature Review
Democratic governance has become a popular term to influence public sector reform in many countries. As a new governance theory, democratic governance has also gained significant interest from scholarly circles. Scholars had different perspectives when discussing the topic of democratic governance. Political perspectives examined democratic governance, especially in terms of states, regime, election and democracy. Technological perspective saw the importance of ICTs, social media, artificial intelligence and big data. The public administration perspective studied the importance of public policy, public management and local government institutions. There were rarely scholars who mapped the ideas about democratic governance. The study tries to fill this gap in thinking about democratic governance by reviewing the journal articles on democratic governance published in Scopus data based. Via NVivo analysis tools, this study showed five pivotal issues, including "government," "public," "policy," "political,' and 'institutional.' Besides, this study revealed some important sub-issues of the pivotal issues, covered 'responsible government," "representative government," "government policy," "public participation," "public affairs," "public interest," "public policy," "policy formulation," "policy implementation," "political participation," "political actors," "political authority," "institutional change," "institutional capacity," "state institutions.' This study also developed propositions from the pivotal issues and sub-issues. Furthermore, this study proposed a new theoretical model based on the propositions. Finally, this study acknowledges the weaknesses and suggests future research.

This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. This study aims to analyze efforts to implement convergence of stunting prevention policies in the city of Padang. The data collection methods used were interviews and documentation. The data source was obtained through data and information on all OPDs in Padang City. The results of this study indicate that efforts to implement convergence of stunting prevention policies in the city of Padang have not been implemented according to the convergence stage. This is because first, efforts at the planning stage have not been implemented optimally because there is no Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) that has been made regarding stunting. Second, efforts at the implementation stage have not been carried out optimally because there is no task force in implementing stunting prevention actions. Third, efforts at the evaluation stage have not been implemented optimally because the evaluation has not been centralized and implemented based on the work program of each Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD).

The data collection technique used was the survey data collection technique with the self-administered questionnaire method. The number of respondents are 109 respondents. The result of this study is that online gender-based violence is influenced by two factors, namely regulatory factors that are still unable to protect women in social media and social factors that have been cultured. There is a perspective that views women as having a weaker position than men. These two factors are the most significant in promoting online gender-based violence in Indonesia. Advancing Social Capital through Participatory Approaches: Case of Community-Based Slum Upgrading in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Social capital discourse has come to be the foremost and essential aspects in achieving sustainable development, participatory democracy and just cities. Indonesia is like most Asian countries where people spatially and socially co-live in a community that is related to a network of small clusters. However, the formal study related to social capital is hardly founded. Based on its characters, Gotong Royong which is a socio-cultural ethic of the togetherness philosophy in Indonesia can be perceived as an Indonesian social capital practice. Advancing social capital through participatory approaches will need a deep consideration about the role of professional and community engagement. Successful collaborations between wider actors in participatory approaches could lead to a fundamental transformation that can both preserve and nurture social capital values. High level of social capital within communities can potentially underpin the successful community participation towards communal goals.

In: International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science: IJRBS, Band 6, Heft 1, S. 89-105
ISSN: 2147-4478

In this study multiple regression method is used under fixed effect regression model approach on panel data. The empirical results show that the inclusion of Corporate Governance Index (CGI) as moderating variable has influenced the interaction between Capital Structure and Financial Performance which was positively significant. The result is generally found that the most of Pakistani manufacturing listed firms pursue good corporate governance mechanism and use good and optimal level of Capital Mix to get the better and high financial performance. Furthermore, the corporate governance sub-indices i.e. board structure (BOD-I) and transparency & disclosure (DISC-III) both also have positive and statistically significant association with both firms performance variables: ROA and ROE. Moreover, the ownership structure sub-index (OWS-II) has not significant influence on financial performance. In last, the capital structure also has positive relationship with financial performance, interestingly about 70 per cent of Capital is financed by Equity capital and the Debt capital signifies 30 per cent only. The core significance of this paper is to investigate the impact of Corporate Governance practices on financial decisions from the Pakistani perspective.
