This anisotropy is characterized via a Fourier expansion of the distribution of charged particles in azimuthal angle relative to the reaction plane, with the coefficients vn denoting the magnitude of the anisotropy. Significant v2–v6 values are obtained as a function of transverse momentum (0.5 2) and one particle with pT < 3 GeV, the v2,2–v6,6 values are found to factorize as vn,n(paT , pbT ) ≈ vn(paT )vn(pbT ) in central and midcentral events. Such factorization suggests that these values of v2,2–v6,6 are primarily attributable to the response of the created matter to the fluctuations in the geometry of the initial state. A detailed study shows that the v1,1(paT , pbT) data are consistent with the combined contributions from a rapidity-even v1 and global momentum conservation.A two-component fit is used to extract the v1 contribution. Data collected with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.05 fb−1, are used. Candidate events with a semileptonic top-quark decay signature are classified as signal- or background-like events by using several kinematic variables as input to a neural network. No signal is observed in the neural network output distribution and a Bayesian upper limit is placed on the production cross-section. The observed upper limit at 95% confidence level on the cross-section multiplied by the t → W b branching fraction is measured to be σqg→t × B(t → W b) < 3.9 pb. Scalar top quarks are searched for in events with two same flavour opposite-sign leptons (e,μ) with invariant mass consistent with the Z boson mass, large missing transverse momentum and jets in the final state. At least one of the jets is identified as originating from a b-quark. No excess over Standard Model expectations is found. The results are interpreted in the framework of R-parity conserving, gauge mediated Supersymmetry breaking 'natural' scenarios, where the neutralino ( ˜χ 0 1 ) is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. In order to include particles with transverse momentum as low as 30 MeV, the data were recorded with the central solenoid magnet off. Charged particles were reconstructed with two algorithms (2-point "tracklets" and full tracks) using information from the pixel detector only. The lead-lead collision centrality was characterized by the total transverse energy in the forward calorimeter in the range 3.2<|η|<4.9. Measurements are presented of the per-event charged particle pseudorapidity distribution, dN ch/dη, and the average charged particle multiplicity in the pseudorapidity interval |η|<0.5 in several intervals of collision centrality. The results are compared to previous mid-rapidity measurements at the LHC and RHIC. The variation of the mid-rapidity charged particle yield per colliding nucleon pair with the number of participants is consistent with lower √sNN results. The W + b-jet cross section is defined for jets reconstructed with the antikt clustering algorithm with transverse momentum above 25 GeV and rapidity within ±2.1. The b-jets are identified by reconstructing secondary vertices. The fiducial cross section is measured both for the electron and muon decay channel of the W boson and is found to be 10.2 ± 1.9(stat) ± 2.6(syst) pb for one lepton flavour. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of approximately 7 μb−1. Elliptic flow is measured over a wide region in pseudorapidity, |η| < 2.5, and over a broad range in transverse momentum, 0.5 < pT < 20 GeV. The elliptic flow parameter v2 is obtained by correlating individual tracks with the event plane measured using energy deposited in the forward calorimeters. As a function of transverse momentum, v2(pT) reaches a maximum at pT of about 3 GeV, then decreases and becomes weakly dependent on pT above 7–8 GeV. Over the measured pseudorapidity region, v2 is found to be only weakly dependent on η, with less variation than observed at lower beam energies. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1, a t¯t production cross section σt¯t = 177±20(stat.)±14(syst.)±7(lum.) pb is measured for an assumed top quark mass of mt = 172.5 GeV. A second measurement requiring at least one jet identified as coming from a b quark yields a comparable result, demonstrating that the dilepton final states are consistent with being accompanied by b-quark jets. The cross-section is measured as a function of the Υ (1S) transverse momentum in two bins of rapidity, |yΥ (1S)| 4 GeV and pseudorapidity |ημ| < 2.5 in order to reduce theoretical uncertainties on the acceptance, which depend on the poorly known polarisation. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 1.13 pb−1, collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The cross-section measurement is compared to theoretical predictions: it agrees to within a factor of two with a prediction based on the NRQCD model including colour-singlet and colour-octet matrix elements as implemented in PYTHIA while it disagrees by up to a factor of ten with the next-to-leading order prediction based on the colour-singlet model ; We thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently. Events are selected in the single lepton topology by requiring an electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets. Doubly leptonic decay events are selected with electrons, muons and missing transverse momentum in the final state.
