Refugees and Asylum Seekers' Emotions in Migration Studies
In: Revista internacional de estudios migratorios: RIEM, Band 11, Heft (1)
ISSN: 2173-1950
This paper reviews the theoretical and empirical studies on emotions in migration studies to determine the state of the art as well as to identify gaps. In addition to the three main approaches to understanding forced migrants' emotional lives (extraordinary, everyday encounters, and therapeutic), this paper identifies different types of empirical research informed by these theoretical perspectives. They focus on; the impact of the context of migration, emotions during a specific stage of the journey, and the emotions, values, and traditions that forced migrants bring with them to the destination country. This literature review led to determining the most relevant tendencies and considerations. Due to the dominance of the therapeutic and extraordinary approaches, there is a need to (1) explore further the role of emotions in forced migration; (2) look at how forced migrants construct their emotions without losing the context (where, why and when); (3) investigate other functions of emotions or to ask how forced migrants make sense of their experience of violence, torture…etc.; (4) take into consideration the whole journey from beginning to end; (5) develop a theory based on empirical data which explains the interaction between emotions and belonging.

Feminism in the House of Anthropology
In: Annual review of anthropology, Band 50, Heft 1, S. 345-361
ISSN: 1545-4290
Although early feminist insights about reflexivity and fieldwork relations have become core tenets of anthropological theories, feminism itself has been marginalized in anthropology. This review examines feminist contributions to American cultural anthropology since the 1990s across four areas of scholarship: the anthropology of science and medicine, political anthropology, economic anthropology, and ethnography as writing and genre. Treating feminist anthropology as a traveling theory capable of addressing critical social problems beyond gender, this article aims not merely to recredit feminism in anthropology, but also to show its potential to transform anthropology into an antiracist, decolonial, and abolitionist project.

Beyond Economics: the Family, Belonging and Remittances among the Bangladeshi Migrants in Los Angeles
In: International migration: quarterly review, Band 59, Heft 5, S. 134-148
ISSN: 1468-2435
AbstractThis paper presents a study exploring how migrants' belonging shapes their remittances among Bangladeshi migrants in Los Angeles. Based on migrants' perception, the paper recognizes the centrality of the family and origin community in migrants' remittances both in the NELM and in the transnational perspectives. It empirically investigates migrants' belonging and recognizes their membership in their parents' family, their own nuclear family, joint family including siblings with their respective families, extended family including multiple generations and a community of origin. It finds migrants' belonging simultaneously to the destination and origin countries, and also confirms the presence of 'friction' in such belonging, indicative of both cooperation and conflict in migrants' remittances allowing for explaining changes in their remittances such as remittances decay and resurgence. This study offers guideline for further empirical research on migrants' transnationalism and remittances with policy implications regarding the developmental consequences of remittances.

Citizen satisfaction in the service delivery of city corporations in Bangladesh
Abstract Citizen satisfaction in service delivery is an essential indicator in the governance mechanism involving the level of confidence that citizens have towards the local government institutions. The present study aims to find out the level of citizens' satisfaction with urban local government institutions, i.e., city corporations in Bangladesh. The study seeks to identify the factors that can explain the variations in citizens' satisfaction level in urban local government institutions. The study adopted a quantitative approach based on the survey data, which involved the opinions of 2160 respondents from all 12 city corporations in the country. The study found that, first, citizens' level of satisfaction in city corporations is low. Second, the public responsiveness variable involving the speed and accuracy of city corporations in service delivery has the strongest overall effect on variations in citizens' satisfaction. Third, the service quality variables, along with the prior experience determinants involving timeliness and promptness in giving services, act as a determining variable affecting satisfaction in city corporations. The contribution of this study lies in its pointing out some new directions to better explain the level of citizen satisfaction towards city corporations in Bangladesh.
