This article is devoted to the scholarly work of the prominent Russian historian, Doctor of Sciences (History), Professor of St Petersburg State University Mikhail Pavlovich Iroshnikov. A student of two well-known St Petersburg-Leningrad scholars, Alexander Ignatievich Andreev and Sigismund Natanovich Valk, M. P. Iroshnikov became one of the leading specialists in the field of the political history of Russia of the 20th century, the history of state and law, the history of state institutions, archives, source studies, historiography and archeography. The successor to the traditions of the St Petersburg historical school — the school of S. F. Platonov, A. S. Lappo-Danilevsky, A. E. Presnyakov — M. P. Iroshnikov not only became a recognized Russian archaeographer, an expert in archival documents, but also a thoughtful, attentive researcher. The most important academic achievements of M. P. Iroshnikov was the study of the creation, activities and personnel of the Soviet government in 1917–1922, and the discovery and introduction of the census of Soviet employees in 1918 into the scholarship. The article analyzes the work of M. P. Iroshnikov in organizing and implementing many of the largest domestic archeographic projects: the publication of the works of V. N. Tatishchev, decrees of the Soviet government, the Radziwil Chronicle. The article also examines the pedagogical activity of M. P. Iroshnikov in St Petersburg State University, where he continued the traditions of his teachers in educating historians, archeographers and source specialists.

AbstractThe article is a comparative inquiry into the roles of Ilia Chavchavadze (1837–1907) and Taras Shevchenko (1818–1861) as national poets and anti-tsarist intellectuals within the context of their respective national traditions (in Georgia and Ukraine). During the period of their activity (19th and the beginning of 20th century), both Ukraine and Georgia were under tsarist imperial rule (albeit the two poets lived in different periods of Russian imperial history). Through their major works, each called for their communities to awaken and revolt against oppression, rejected social apathy caused by tsarist subjugation, and raised awareness about the historical past of their nations. By comparing the works and activities of the two poets and examining their impact on national mobilization in tsarist Ukraine and Georgia, this article argues that (lyric) poetry rather than prose (novel) constituted the agency of common national imagining. It was lyric and not epic poetry or novel, this article shows, that laid the foundation of nationalist mobilization as it framed the revolt of the "I" against colonialism as a revolt of the "I" against an oppressive society under which the cultural grounds for common imagining had been constructed.

This book is written for a wide range of audience associated with ensuring aviation transport security and for the end users of airlinespassengers, in order to expand their knowledge about the reliability of using air transport.

This process results in more compassionate and caring contexts, as well as helping others in times of suffering. This book provides evidence from neuroscience and quantum physics that it is empathy that connects humanity, and that this awareness can create a more just society. It extends interest in values-based management, exploring the intellectual, physical, ecological, spiritual and aesthetic well-being of organizations and society rather than the more common management principles of maximising profit and efficiency. This book challenges the existing paradigm of capitalism by providing scientific evidence and empirical data that empathy is the most important organizing mechanism. The book is unique in that it provides a comprehensive review of the transformational qualities of empathy in personal, organizational and local contexts. Integrating an understanding based upon scientific studies of why the fields of positive psychology and organizational scholarship are important, it examines the evidence from neuroscience and presents leading-edge studies from quantum physics with implications for the organizational field. Together the chapters in this book attempt to demonstrate how empathy helps in the reduction of human suffering and the creation of a more just society.
