En Belgique, le groupe professionnel des infirmières est non seulement important d'un point de vue quantitatif, mais est également stratégique dans la politique et la pratique des soins de santé. Il n'est dès lors guère étonnant qu'il soit souvent présent dans les débats publics en lien avec la question de la pénibilité du métier et la problématique des pénuries de main-d'œuvre. Dans cet article, à côté d'une contextualisation de ce groupe professionnel, les auteurs proposent une approche de l'expérience professionnelle des infirmières, tenant compte de différents moments clés du parcours professionnel et de ses interférences avec le parcours de vie dans son ensemble. Ainsi, sur la base d'une soixantaine d'entretiens à caractère biographique, ils analysent les motivations de l'entrée dans cette profession et leur confrontation au réel après quelques années de pratique ; le vécu de l'engagement professionnel et de l'articulation du travail avec la vie familiale ; et le maintien dans l'emploi et l'aménagement de la fin de carrière pour les infirmières de 45 ans et plus. Ce groupe professionnel étant fortement traversé par la logique de genre, la question des différences entre les hommes et les femmes est posée, sous l'angle original des logiques masculines dans un domaine " féminin ". Ce regard sociologique sur la profession infirmière tenant compte de l'articulation de la vie professionnelle avec la vie familiale et du genre permet non seulement de mieux la comprendre, mais aussi de mieux saisir la possibilité de contrer ce qui est politiquement qualifié de pénurie ou d'hémorragie, en agissant sur le système de travail et son organisation pour le rendre plus rentable.

Le vieillissement de la population est à l'origine de réformes des systèmes de retraite. La politique menée s'est progressivement orientée vers la prolongation des carrières. On parle alors de l'emploi des seniors ou, plus globalement, de vieillissement actif, le terme « actif » sous-entendant, mais pas toujours, l'emploi. En 2005, la Belgique a ainsi élaboré un Pacte de solidarité entre les générations, basé explicitement sur les idées promues par le niveau européen. Alors que les objectifs fixés à l'horizon 2010 n'ont pas été atteints, la Commission européenne s'apprête à organiser l'année européenne du vieillissement actif en 2012. La Stratégie Europe 2020, qui remplace la Stratégie de Lisbonne, proclame à nouveau la nécessité d'une plus grande participation des travailleurs âgés au marché du travail et fixe le nouvel objectif de 75 % de la population âgée de 20 à 64 ans en emploi. D'où vient l'idée de vieillissement actif ? Thibauld Moulaert et Dimitri Léonard montrent le rôle majeur de l'OCDE et des instances européennes dans la promotion du vieillissement actif en emploi. Depuis la fin des années 1990, le discours normatif européen en faveur du vieillissement actif s'est progressivement invité au cœur des politiques nationales.

Introduction : Active ageing may be considered as one of the leading notion for policy makers to rethink ageing population since 1990's. Usually, literature insists on the importance of World Health Organization framework of 2002 and Walker is often referred in literature as one of the leader for theoretical explanations. They both present a holistic version of active ageing. Method : We analyze 24 texts from international organizations (World Bank, OECD, European Commission, United Nations and World Health Organization) and track "active ageing" in 17 Anglophone databases and 7 Francophone databases. Results : First we will show how, historically, "active ageing" started emerging in scientific literature. Second, by focusing onto the action of World Health Organization and of European Commission, we will show how international organizations play an important role in transforming the theoretical ideas (the concept or the notion of "active ageing") into a political framework for public policies (a "referentiel d'action publique" in French sociological literature). This will permit us to discuss some of Chris Phillipson's perspectives on globalization and ageing. Third, we will come back the scientific literature to show how "active ageing" receives plural definitions and, in particular, how different it has been ? at least until 2011 ? for Anglophone and Francophone literatures. Conclusion : In conclusion, we propose to assess the future development of "active ageing" through the emergence of a new critic, more present in Anglophone literature, but also present in Francophone one.
