Recently, scholars of populism have increasingly started to theorise and capture susceptibility to populism at the individual level. Most of these studies, however, focus on the consequences of populist attitudes on political behaviour. Less attention has been paid to the question of which citizens have high levels of populist attitudes and why. While some scholars argue that populist attitudes more resemble an unchangeable personality trait, meaning that individuals may be more or less populist, others argue that it is a response to outside grievances or discontent. The latter suggests that levels of populist attitudes are dynamic and may change if grievances are addressed (or remain unaddressed). We contribute to this literature by asking how discontent fuelled by unfulfilled policy preferences affects the level of populist attitudes. Following the conception of populism as a thin-centred ideology, we argue that high levels of populist attitudes are not connected with certain issues per se. Rather, our argument is that people are more populist when they feel poorly represented on policy issues that they care strongly about. This argument provides an explanation for the observation that even voters of non-populist parties sometimes show high levels of populist attitudes. We test the impact of policy discontent on populist attitudes using data from the GLES 2021 Pre-Election Cross Section survey by combining information on citizens' issue specific discontent with the perceived salience of respective issues. The results are in line with our expectations: Individuals with higher policy discontent are more populist.

In der Vergangenheit traten in Pathologien häufig Grenzwertüberschreitungen für die inhalative Formaldehydbelastung auf. Aufgrund der krebserzeugenden Eigenschaft von Formaldehyd, der Festlegung eines neuen Formaldehydgrenzwerts und der Absenkung einiger Lösungsmittelgrenzwerte sollten die aktuellen Expositionen ermittelt und beurteilt werden. Mit Arbeitsplatzmessungen nach der Technischen Regel für Gefahrstoffe (TRGS) 402 ermittelten Messstellen der Unfallversicherungsträger und Bundesländer die inhalativen Gefahrstoffexpositionen während betrieblicher Routinetätigkeiten in 57 Pathologien in Deutschland, deren technische Schutzmaßnahmen subjektiv als ausreichend eingeschätzt wurden. Bei lang dauernden Tätigkeiten mit Formaldehydexposition überschritt der Acht-Stunden-Schichtmittelwert in bis zu 30 % der Fälle den zulässigen Arbeitsplatz- grenzwert (AGW) nach TRGS 900. Bei kurzzeitigen Tätigkeiten wurden die zulässigen Kurzzeitwertbedingungen in bis zu 60 % der Fälle nicht eingehalten, bei Arbeiten ohne Erfassung sogar in bis zu 70 %. Erhöhte Formaldehydkonzentrationen traten besonders bei unzureichend leistungsfähigen Absauganlagen und bei Formaldehyd emittierenden Tätigkeiten auf. Die Grenzwerte für Lösungsmittel wurden eingehalten.

Flächendesinfektionen sind im Gesundheitsdienst und inzwischen auch in vielen anderen Branchen alltägliche Routine. Die eingesetzten Desinfektionsmittel enthalten teilweise Stoffe, die in die Luft gelangen und zu einer Exposition der Beschäftigten führen können. In einer Prüfkabine wurden Flächendesinfektionsarbeiten unter realistischen Bedingungen nachgestellt und die inhalative Exposition gegenüber diesen Stoffen bestimmt. Als Desinfektionsmittel wurden handelsübliche Produkte für die Wischdesinfektion ausgewählt. Die Produkte enthielten die Wirkstoffe Ethanol, Glutaraldehyd, eine Mischung aus Glutaraldehyd und Formaldehyd sowie eine Mischung aus Peroxyessigsäure und Wasserstoffperoxid. Die Messungen haben gezeigt, wie sich die Wirkstoffe auf eine Exposition auswirken können und bis zu welchen Flächengrößen sicheres Arbeiten möglich ist. Zudem ergab sich durch die gute Reproduzierbarkeit der Daten die Möglichkeit, Berechnungsmodelle zu überprüfen.
