Thesis(Doctoral)--Izmir Institute of Technology, City and Regional Planning, Izmir, 2009 ; Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 98-103) ; Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and English ; ix, 103 leaves ; Spatial decision making is a very complex process that basic strategy of decision analysis is to divide the decision problem into small, understandable parts; analyze each part; and integrate the parts in a logical manner to produce a rational solution. Recently,Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) integrated with geographical information system (GIS) has been promising in producing analytical tools for analyzing many realworld spatial planning and decision making problems.In Turkey, natural, archaeological and cultural assets are conserved according to the decisions of the conservation regional councils. The conservation regional councils decide boundary, type and degree of conservation areas but these areas and their features is changed frequently according to economical, environmental and political atmosphere.The conservation decision is one of the most important input criteria in preparing urban land-use plan since the type and degree of conservation area directly determines which kind of land-uses can and cannot be allocated in a conservation area. The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the effects of changing conservation decisions on optimum land use allocation when all other criteria are constant. This analysis was made with five different perspectives. The thesis uses the land assignment model provided by Hanink and Cromley (1998) that integrates the geographical information systems (GIS) with a generalized assignment model by using MCDM techniques to determine optimum level of conservation scheme. The case study is the master plan area of Çeme in zmir province in Turkey. The results show that the theoretically proposed method is indeed very useful and promising to answer complex issues on a more rational basis.

Context. The CARMENES spectrograph is surveying ∼300 M dwarf stars in search for exoplanets. Among the target stars, spectroscopic binary systems have been discovered, which can be used to measure fundamental properties of stars. Aims. Using spectroscopic observations, we determine the orbital and physical properties of nine new double-line spectroscopic binary systems by analysing their radial velocity curves. Methods. We use two-dimensional cross-correlation techniques to derive the radial velocities of the targets, which are then employed to determine the orbital properties. Photometric data from the literature are also analysed to search for possible eclipses and to measure stellar variability, which can yield rotation periods. Results. Out of the 342 stars selected for the CARMENES survey, 9 have been found to be double-line spectroscopic binaries, with periods ranging from 1.13 to ∼8000 days and orbits with eccentricities up to 0.54. We provide empirical orbital properties and minimum masses for the sample of spectroscopic binaries. Absolute masses are also estimated from mass-luminosity calibrations, ranging between ∼0.1 and ∼0.6 M. Conclusions. Ethanol or ethyl alcohol is an organic substance obtained from fermentation of sugars, hydration of ethylene or reduction of acetaldehyde. It consists of two carbon atoms, five hydrogen atoms and one hydroxyl group. It is the main biofuel used in the world, it is a renewable energy source and alternative to fossil fuels. In Brazil in 1975 was launched by the Federal Government the National Alcohol Program to combat the rampant use of oil and encourage the planting of sugar cane in the country. Given the importance of the use of ethanol, it is extremely important to know its thermodynamic properties for process optimization making them more energy efficient, as well as for the design of new industrial plants and equipment for the various processes. This work has as objective the study of Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium (VLE) of binary systems with ethanol, being the first ethanol (1) - water (2) and the second methyl acetate (1) + ethanol (2). To verify the thermodynamic consistency test of the data, the area test was applied, tested in the computational routine consist.exe and a data prediction was simulated in SPECS. The tests provide results of data consistency as well as the predator or VLE behavior of the binary systems studied for high pressure and temperature situations.

Based on the published experimental data (phase diagrams of three binary systems, four isothermal sections and DTA curves of 33 alloys), a spatial (three-dimensional – 3D) computer model of the LiCl-PrCl3-KCl phase diagram has been constructed. It is shown that, in the general case, the diagram is formed by 66 surfaces and 27 phase regions; however, due to the negligible solubility of the initial chlorides and the stoichiometry of the two binary compounds in reality, it consists of 31 surfaces and 14 phase regions. The evaluation of the quality of the obtained 3D model is a comparison of model and initial isothermal sections and calculation of response functions for 33 alloys with temperature values at the boundaries of the primary crystallization regions shown on DTA traces. The geometric structure of the LiCl-PrCl3-KCl phase diagram is also considered as an illustration of the features of ternary systems of the eutectic type, depending on the nature of the formed in them binary compounds.

ABSTRACT: This work addresses the IFS-based image reconstruction problem for binary images. Given a binary image as the input, the goal is to obtain all the parameters of an iterated function system whose attractor approximates the input image accurately; the quality of this approximation is measured according to a similarity function between the original and the reconstructed images. This paper introduces a new method to tackle this issue. The method is based on functional networks, a powerful extension of neural networks that uses functions instead of the scalar weights typically found in standard neural networks. The method relies on an artificial network comprised of several functional networks, one for each of the contractive affine maps forming the IFS. The method is applied to an illustrative and challenging example of a fractal binary image exhibiting a complicated shape. The graphical and numerical results show that the method performs very well and is able to reconstruct the input image using IFS with high accuracy. AbstractThe primary objective of this work is to introduce and perform a detailed study of a class of multistate reliability structures in which no ordering in the levels of components' performances is necessary. In particular, the present paper develops the basic theory (exact reliability formulae, reliability bounds, asymptotic results) that will make it feasible to investigate systems whose components are allowed to experience m ≥ 2 kinds of failure (failure modes), and their breakdown is described by different families of cut sets in each mode. For illustration purposes, two classical (binary) systems are extended to analogous multiple failure mode structures, and their reliability performance (bounds and asymptotic behavior) is investigated by numerical experimentation. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ziel des Papers ist es, ein soziologisches Verständnis von Vertrauen zu erarbeiten und die sozialen Funktionen einer Verhaltenssteuerung über das Vertrauen zu bestimmen. Dabei wird nur die Ebene einfacher Interaktionssysteme, also "binäre Ego-Alter-Beziehungen" betrachtet; der auf die Funktion gesellschaftlicher Institutionen bezogene Vertrauensmechanismus bleibt ausgeschlossen. Es werden verschiedene soziologische Dimensionen von Vertrauen herausgearbeitet und an Beispielen veranschaulicht. Die Wahrnehmung von Vertrauen für die an einer Handlung beteiligten Akteure ist ein wichtiger Faktor; eine unterschiedliche Definition von Vertrauen bzw. eine andere Einschätzung der Situation kann zu Interaktionsproblemen führen. Es werden auch verschiedene Kooperationsbeziehungen (Wirtschaft, Beruf, Partnerschaft) analysiert. Es wird deutlich, daß Vertrauen eine zentrale Funktion in der Steuerung binärer Interaktionsprozesse hat und eine komplexe Wirkung besitzt. (ICE)

Sign and magnitude of these properties have been utilized to illustrate the molecular interactions occurring in the systems. Moreover, Lorentz-Lorenz, Gladstone-Dale, Wiener, Heller, AragoBiot, Eykrnan and Oster relations have been used for theoretical prediction of refractive indices of all the solutions selected for the present study.

Cyberspace has emerged as the 5th domain combat zone from which large scale cyber-attacks are launched at an adversary anonymously in milliseconds, by a single stroke on a computer keyboard or mobile device. Such cyber-warfare operations deliberately seek to deceive, degrade, destroy or disrupt computer systems and networks in a battle-space that transcends borders, under the shroud of secrecy to the attacker's identity or source (Herbert, 2012). Unlike past armed conflicts between nations, conventional weaponry, warring combatants and military objectives were readily identifiable features of the conflict. Cyber-warfare, is asymmetric and can be deceptively and expeditiously instigated by States, Non-State actors, organised groups or sole operators targeting computer networks (e.g. Estonian attack in 2007, Stuxnet attack in 2010).

This paper seeks to develop an allocation of 0/1 data matrices to physical systems upon a Kullback-Leibler distance between probability distributions. The distributions are estimated from the contents of the data matrices. We discuss an ascending hierarchical classification method, a numerical example and mention an application with survey data concerning the level of development of the departments of a given territory of a country.

Context. A large portion of stars is found to be part of binary or higher-order multiple systems. The ubiquity of planets found around single stars raises the question of whether and how planets in binary systems form. Protoplanetary disks are the birthplaces of planets, and characterizing them is crucial in order to understand the planet formation process. Aims. Our goal is to characterize the morphology of the GG Tau A disk, one of the largest and most massive circumbinary disks. We also aim to trace evidence for binary-disk interactions. Methods. We obtained observations in polarized scattered light of GG Tau A using the SPHERE/IRDIS instrument in the H-band filter. We analyzed the observed disk morphology and substructures. We ran 2D hydrodynamical models to simulate the evolution of the circumbinary ring over the lifetime of the disk. Results. The disk and also the cavity and the inner region are highly structured, with several shadowed regions, spiral structures, and streamer-like filaments. Some of these are detected here for the first time. The streamer-like filaments appear to connect the outer ring with the northern arc. Their azimuthal spacing suggests that they may be generated through periodic perturbations by the binary, which tear off material from the inner edge of the outer disk once during each orbit.
