AbstractPrejudice and popularity represent two major areas of research. Yet studies have not considered whether prejudiced adolescents actually can be popular. Among 572 high school students (Mage = 15.80 years), the current study tested the association between popularity (based on sociometric peer nominations) and sexual prejudice against gay and lesbian individuals, moderated by gender and perspective taking. As hypothesized, the association was significant for males but not females, and it was significant for adolescents lower on perspective taking but not those higher on perspective taking. Moreover, adolescents who were popular and expressed strong sexual prejudice were more likely to engage in homophobic behavior than prejudiced adolescents who were less popular. Popular adolescents with strong sexual prejudice beliefs may be more prone to use homophobic behavior as a way to maintain their dominant position. Similarly, prejudiced adolescents who are popular may face less pushback for their engagement in homophobic behavior. Continued attention to the connection between sexual prejudice and popularity is important because of the high status, influence, and visibility of popular adolescents.

This study aims to 1) identify indicators of prejudice in the novel. 2) analyze the form of the depiction of prejudice in the novel. And lastly, 3) analyzing the reasons why the author Stephen King included elements of prejudice in the novel Elevation (2018). This study uses a sociological approach. This research is included in qualitative research that focuses on the elements of prejudice in the novel by using descriptive analysis techniques to analyze the data. The researcher found three findings based on the problem statement. First, indicators of prejudice in the novel. Researchers found two indicators of prejudice, namely sexual prejudice and political prejudice. Second, the form of the depiction of prejudice in the novel. There are three instruments used by the author to describe prejudice, namely characters, settings, and events. Third, the reason why the author includes an element of prejudice in the novel is the author's concern about the social situation in the United States at the time the novel was written.

Joseph talks about rights and reality for South African gay community. Discussing lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex and queer rights (LGBTI) in South Africa is deeply contradictory. On the one hand, the country boasts some of the most progressive LGBTI rights in the world--from its constitution, protecting people from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, to legalized same sex unions. Cape Town is a popular holiday destination for the international LGBTI community, as well as being the centre for the 'pink rand'. Prejudice and hate crimes against lesbians and gay men are prevalent throughout the United States. Prejudice in public school settings is particularly problematic for lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) students and LGB parents. Efforts to reduce prejudice for LGB groups have met with limited success. Creating safer and more inclusive school environments is essential. An experimental mixed methods field design tested outcomes of an intergroup dialogue intervention on public school teacher attitudes, feelings, and behaviors toward LGB students and parents. Quantitative results indicate dialogue participation resulted in statistically significant positive changes in attitudes, feelings, and behaviors. Qualitative data analysis confirmed positive changes as a result of dialogue participation.

This timely and accessible contribution towards a deeper understanding of homophobia provides much-needed insight into the issue of prejudice in general. Topics discussed include: the nature of antigay prejudice, stereotypes and behaviors; the consequences of homophobia and related phenomena on the well-being of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals; and the critical need for psychology and science to examine homophobia and related issues

Worldwide, sexual and gender minorities struggle to access sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. In South Africa, sexual prejudice is entrenched and pervasive in health systems and SRH services do not cater for a diverse range of people. Though health reform is underway, little attention has been given to how sexuality is being addressed in this process, particularly in the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme currently being piloted. We analyse interview data generated in an NHI pilot district, using discursive methodology, informed by a sexual and reproductive justice standpoint. We show how sexual and gender minorities are discursively in/visibilised in health settings and discuss these findings in relation to the social justice and solidarity aims of health systems reform.

Arguments opposing same-sex marriage are often made on religious grounds. In five studies conducted in the United States and Canada (combined N = 1,673), we observed that religious opposition to same-sex marriage was explained, at least in part, by conservative ideology and linked to sexual prejudice. In Studies 1 and 2, we discovered that the relationship between religiosity and opposition to same-sex marriage was mediated by explicit sexual prejudice. In Study 3, we saw that the mediating effect of sexual prejudice was linked to political conservatism. Finally, in Studies 4a and 4b we examined the ideological underpinnings of religious opposition to same-sex marriage in more detail by taking into account two distinct aspects of conservative ideology. Results revealed that resistance to change was more important than opposition to equality in explaining religious opposition to same-sex marriage.

El estudio analizó las variables psicosociales (religión, orientación de dominancia social) y psicopolíticas (autoritarismo, ideología política) que colaboran en la predicción del prejuicio hacia trabajadoras sexuales (PTS). Investigación realizada con estudiantes universitarios(as) en dos fases: fase instrumental para la construcción y evaluación de una escala de PTS, y seguidamente un estudio ex post facto retrospectivo simple. Tras ratificar las cualidades psicométricas de la escala, se efectuó un análisis de regresión múltiple. En ambas dimensiones del PTS, fueron el autoritarismo y la oposición a la igualdad dos de las variables que más aportaron a la predicción. También la religión y el autoposicionamiento ideológico ingresaron como predictores. ; This study analyzed the psycho-social and psycho-political variables that contribute to predict prejudice towards sex workers (PSW). A two-phase quantitative study with university students was carried out: phase one included an instrumental research oriented to the construction and evaluation of a scale of PSW; phase two consisted of an ex post facto study with simple retrospective design. After ratifying the psychometric qualities of the constructed scale, a multiple regression analysis was performed. In both PSW dimensions, authoritarianism and opposition to equality were two of the variables that most contributed to the prediction. Also, religion and ideological self-placement were included in the models.
