Following an overview of the development of the distinctive characteristics of the Barbadian housing system and housing policies in the twentieth century, this paper assesses existing housing conditions, costs, finance and supply. Critical contemporary housing policy issues are then examined, with particular reference to the extensive tracts of land which have been subdivided for housing construction, but which have not yet been utilized.
