The ex-servicemen's org's have been associated at various times with diff pol'al parties. They have also tried to win direct representation in the House of Commons by forming their own parties, but their candidates were nearly always defeated. They have given their support to candidates at elections, according to their answers to a specially drawn questionnaire. This very often led the ex-servicemen into conflict with the rest of the electorate. Today a diff pattern of pol'al activity may be observed. Ex-servicemen's org's bring pressure to bear on the gov & constantly try to create a PO through propaganda, employment of professional publicity services, or through their representation on the Standing Joint Committee on Ex-Service questions. Their activities were originally intended to achieve broadly pol'al aims, but since 1939 their main preoccupation is with pensions policy. IPSA.
