Climate change represents one of our greatest public policy challenges. A broad, well-established and international scientific consensus exists that our planet is undergoing climate change. The question is not whether there is climate change, but how best to respond to it. Climate change is a global phenomenon that requires a global effort unlike anything previously attempted. This global challenge is complicated by related and more controversial questions about causal responsibility. Although convincing evidence shows that climate change is a result of human behavior, much less agreement exists on how this should factor into policy.

Climate Justice in India brings together a collective of academics, activists, and artists to paint a collage of action-oriented visions for a climate just India. The challenges posed by climate change - the impact of which extends from small remote island villages to the entire planet - demand collective action by governments, industries, and societies at large. The private sector, equipped with significant financial resources and a commitment to innovation, has a leading role to play in the urgent global effort to reduce the negative effects of climate change and create a thriving zero-carbon economy of the future. Private sector engagement in climate action can take many forms, from the development of new technologies and financial instruments to participation in policy development. When governments establish inclusive dialogues with representatives of the private sector as well as international organizations, civil society, and communities, they can produce more integrated and comprehensive strategies for addressing this crisis. To support countries as they implement the Paris Agreement, a group of public and private sector partners has come together to develop six fundamental principles to support the establishment and enhancement of climate dialogue at all levels - global, regional, national, and local. These principles are focused on bringing the public and private sectors together as a single, well-structured platform from which to identify challenges and implement solutions for climate change issues. Guidelines for the six dialogue for climate action (D4CA) principles are: principle 1, urgency; principle 2, inclusion; principle 3, awareness; principle 4, efficiency; principle 5, transparency; and principle 6, accountability.

This book provides a new approach to thinking about the politics and geographies of climate governance. It argues that in order to understand the nature and potential of the range of new responses to climate change emerging at multiple scales we need to examine how governance is accomplished - how it is undertaken, practised and contested. Through a range of case studies drawn from communities, corporations and local government, the book examines how climate change comes to be governed and made to matter as an issue with which diverse publics should be concerned. It concludes that rather than seeking the solution to climate change once and for all, we need to engage with the ways in which we can channel our intentions to ameliorate the climate problem to more progressive ends.
